I agree that this unexpected withdrawal of special financing is a major roadblock to the purchase I was getting ready to make. I don't understand why it would go away like it did. Is Honda all of a sudden moving enough units that they don't need to offer financing incentives? I now need to reconsider getting a Toyota Sienna instread since they are offering 1.9% on 36 months, 2.9% on 48 months and 0% on 24 months.
  • hiddendragonhiddendragon Member Posts: 22
I called one of my local Honda dealer and they said this 2.9% promotion is still on going. I asked them double checked and they confirmed that.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Manufacturer financing offers can be (and often are) geographic specific.

One of the issues that sometimes arise when these things are turned on and off is that a dealer will put together her/his own individual financing offers designed to mirror that of a manufacturer. The money for such a lower rate has to come from somewhere though - the customer's pocket.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yeah, don't kid yourself. Regardless of how it appears on the sales contract, the customer is paying for anything labeled as being "no charge."

Want proof? Just price the same vehicle without the added goodies.
  • lawdadlawdad Member Posts: 1
Just purchased and drove off with an EX-L w/ RES today in Dallas area. I insisted on 4.9% from my first offer. It was not a problem. It's there...but your dealer might not want to give it to you.

I got $29,300 OTD for the same car, seems too higher base on $28,100 . how did you get that price any way
  • trentj16trentj16 Member Posts: 4
    South Florida

    Price of Car = $31,087
    Tax = $1,890.22
    Tag = $175.00 (new)
Total Out the Door (OTD) = $33,152.22

Has anyone found a better deal?
  • chemtjchemtj Member Posts: 3
$32436 out the door in Atlanta on Friday. I also got the 2.9 financing for 36 months. Conyers Honda. Best buying experience I have ever had with a new car dealer. What they quoted over the net was exactly what I paid. No typical salesman BS. Would buy there again!!
  • kabobkabob Member Posts: 9
Thanks Gusthelab for your very informative post. I also live in MD and would appreciate if you can tell me the dealer where you bought your car.
I hope you are enjoying your Nimbus Grey Odyssey EX-L.

:) I just purchased a 2007 Odyssey EX-l for $27,045 which includes destination ,the local city tax, and drive away tags from OHare Honda in Chicago. I drove in from Iowa and the transaction was very smooth. They seem to be the best price and they are really great people to deal with. Highly recommended.
  • baron64baron64 Member Posts: 41
    Did you have a trade-in?
  • bchristoffelsbchristoffels Member Posts: 3
I did have a trade, but if you can sell the vehicle locally I would highly recommend it. As with almost all dealers, you will be robbed for your trade. They will give you a low black book value.
  • baron64baron64 Member Posts: 41
So, the price you quoted is with the trade? The issue is that price is not a good idea for anyone reading this forum of what you paid for the car without knowing exactly what you got for your trade. There is a lot of smoke and mirrors involved. Your price sounds like an amazing price, but there is more to the story, if you will. What was the trade? How much did you get for it in comparison to Blue Book? Bottomline - what did you pay for the vehicle before trade and TTL? That would be very helpful. I would think anyone buying a new vehicle should negotiate the price of the vehicle before anyhting else is brought into the equation. Thanks.
  • bchristoffelsbchristoffels Member Posts: 3
Before a trade was ever entered into the equation the price of the van was $27,045 which included destination, and other minor fees. Honda hands out different offers that do not apply in some states. It is my recommendation that you get in touch with them and get a quote. I got a quote from 3 different dealers in Chicago and they were all within a couple hundred dollars. I gave Ohare the first shot as they were the cheapest. My experience was great and I highly recommend using them. Get in touch with their internet department and get a quote. It's as easy as that.
  • baron64baron64 Member Posts: 41
Outstanding! Thanks for the info. I'm originally from Eastern Iowa so I'll be seeing some family there soon as well as in Chicago.
  • bugsnestbugsnest Member Posts: 11
I'm thinking of going with OHare Honda too. But I had one question, in case some have already got a quote.
What would be the price of an EXL with RES and with RES/NAVI in Chicagoland. Sounds like O'Hare is the best deal around so does anyone have a quote on this?

    Thanks in advance...
  • hiddendragonhiddendragon Member Posts: 22
$28,100 was from Woodbridge Honda according to a posting from Odyclub.com forum. I asked the same sales person but he said he couldn't do at this time. I actually made the purchase on the weekend because I got the price I want. It was $28,000 OTD even from Landmark Alexandira, VA. To compare national wide, the base price is 26,213 w/o freight and before all other fee. I also did 2.9% finance, so this promotion is still on going.
  • jgejge Member Posts: 8
I received a quote of 27606 + fees from Honda of Lisle.

Any better quote in the chicago area...

    Thanks!
  • hiddendragonhiddendragon Member Posts: 22
Below is an email I received today from one dealer. sounds amazing. I didn't ask their quote but I can be sure the price will be higher than other dealers, maybe asking for msrp. :) but figure out yourself, don't be afraid of asking.

Now through this weekend, June 16th, when you purchase a vehicle from Ourisman Honda of Laurel, you can recieve one of the following at no additional cost!!! Just for giving us the opportunity to EARN YOUR BUSINESS!!

    1) Free gas for one year*!!!!
    2) 6 year, 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty*!!!!
    3) 0% APR*!!!!
    4) Free factory scheduled maintenance for 30,000 miles*!!!!

Have been checking out this forum for the last month. Thanks to the threads, I think I got a fair deal though many members probably did better. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't taken to the cleaners.

Unfortunately, I missed the Memorial Day Sales and cannot wait for any July 4th specials. I would have like to wait till end of model year to see if I could get an even better deal or to actually wait for the 08's. (Bluetooth and MP3 jack would be nice!) But I had to have the van this week.

    Below is the breakdown.

    EXL with RES (No Nav)

Nimbus Gray with Olive Leather Interior.

$28,895.81 selling price which includes the destination charge.
$2388.44 Sales Tax (CA Tax of about 8.25%)
    $55 Doc Prep Fee
    $8.75 CA Tire Fee
    $10 CA County Fee
    $242 New Veh Lic Fee
The carpet mats which are included
Full Tank of Gas (I think everyone gets this.)
    Included Honda Original Cargo Tray
Included Honda Original Weather Mats for 3 rows

    $31,600 OTD
Took the 2.9% - 36 months for the entire $31,600.
$918 a month. Total 3 year interest would add up to $1440. No pre-payment penalty after $75 of interest paid.

    No trade in.

Purchased at Anderson Honda, Palo Alto, CA
    Assisted by Salesman Conway Chan.
Only had to deal with their salesmanship tactics a few times.
Experience with the staff was professional and courteous.

I did not purchase the extended warranty at time of veh purchase. I'm thinking of calling the finance guy the next couple of days and offering $1,000 for 8 yrs/100,000, no deductible, with cash back. Not sure if they will bit...

I plan to buy 2007 Honda Odyssey EX this weekend. Can you share your price and dealer location with me? I live in Raleigh in North Carolina. Any suggestion and help are really appreciated.

  • ctkmctkm Member Posts: 4
Fantic: Was $27250 your total out the door for your EX? It seems like the best price for California. Which dealer in the bay area did you buy from? Did you get email quotes first or did you have to go and deal to get that price or did they try to sell you extras and accessories? Would you recommend them?

Best quote down here in So Cal right now is $27300 out the door, but not sure if they'll try to do the accessories which would raise the total, so debating if June 30 end of month/4th of July weekend may be better or going to another dealer.

Purchased Odyssey EX-L with RES at Auto Park Honda

    Sale Price(29111.00) + Splasg Guards + Other Fees (OTD) = 30,600.00
Purchased Extended warranty for 1340.00 (7 Yrs/100K miles).

I believe I paid a bit extra on warranty.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I purchased a certified Honda Odyssey(3 weeks back) from CleoBay Honda,Killeen, TX. At the time of purchase, they had mentioned that they would send the necessary papers for Registration and Title to the department. So there is a sticker at the back of my van stating that the dealer must apply for the title by 06/09. I have not received the registration or title yet. Typically how long does this take. Is there any documentation that I should be carrying with me in the car?

Also, even though the van is Certified, there are no papers in the agreement. The dealer mentioned that the VIN number is the evidence. And when I take it to a dealer, it should be ok. Is this true??

    Thanks in advance!
  • odysseyfan1odysseyfan1 Member Posts: 33
To answer your first question, I bought a new van, and was asked it takes ~30 days to get the tag/title.

But in the same context, can we dirve the van out of state on the temporary tags ?
  • donkeypunch1donkeypunch1 Member Posts: 119
Request internet quotes from Castle Honda in Skokie, Ohare Honda in Desplaines and McGrath Honda on Grand in the city. You should be able to get under 27K including destination for an EXL. (26700-26900) See my other posts for specific strategy. Additionally, your note "plus fee's" is vague. Do they include destination a fee? (595) When you request your quote, specificically ask for a Price that INCLUDES destination and that you the only additional prices shoudl be Tax, Title License. Additionally, a lot of people don't mention on these boards (or its an afterthought) if they have a trade in. If you get 26700 incl. destination on the EXL but get bent over by 1500+ on your trade it's not a great deal. Do your homework if you have a trade. Addtionally, the prices I note above should include the Honda APR financing if you qualify. You'll find dealers in IL that will play games with the "oh but that price is for cash add $750 for the financing. Just be VERY specific in what your looking for. There's tons of vans on the lots and 08's are coming IMHO you shouldn't pay a dime more than 26900 in IL including dest. for an EXL. (add TTL) good luck.

    Dear odysseyfan1,

can you tell me which dealer you bought your EX at 25,400 in NC? I live in Raleigh, NC. I'd be very happy to get that deal. Thank you so much!

Don't waste your time going to Ourisman Honda of Laurel. I went there once to buy a Honda Odyssey based on the quote they had provided. The salesman promised they had the car that I asked for. When I went, they told me the car had been sold and asked me to see something else, typical 'bait and switch'. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

Try Sanford, Burlington first to get their prices, you might finally need to call them to show you are serious about the purchase. and then let the autopark match their price if they can otherwise u can always buy from sanford/burlington. Burlinton has a dealer president award and they reflect that in showing exact inventory/plus good salesmenship on their website, make sure they have your vehicle by talking to them and checking their website before u make the trip.
  • bugsnestbugsnest Member Posts: 11
I learnt this the the hard way so just mentioning it here in case you are unaware of the "fine print" --

The $750 dealer incentive that most dealers in Chicago area appeare to be passing on are valid only in specific states. I live in Missouri and that is NOT one of the states that this would be valid in.

This is what I was told by OHare Honda that the incentive applies to only residents of states listed and it's NOT a nationwide promotion like some others are. So if I were to drive to Chicago and buy a car from O'Hare, my Missouri residency prevents me from getting this saving.

If you think this is not the case then please let me know. This caused us to alter our plans entirely!
  • hockeyfoolhockeyfool Member Posts: 30
    dwelles,

Bought '07 ody ex-l from Herb Chambers for $27,700 (includes destination) + tax+tags back in March. There were no incentives at that time and this was considered a very good price. I have since seen prices down around $27,200 (w/o $750 incentive). We had received quotes from Boch Honda first and actually went to Boch, but they gave us a run around and wouldn't make the deal we wanted. HC deal was quick and easy - deal was made in about 30 minutes with almost no haggling and were able to drive off the lot with the car an hour later.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

I’m sorry this is more than a week old, only remembered because Edmunds keeps sending updates to the forum. We purchased the following on June 6, 2007 in northern Virginia.

    2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L
Exterior – Silver (silver is in the name)
    Interior – Grey
    3rd row shades option

We walked out the door for slightly under $29,000.

    $26,853.00 EX-L
    $599.00 freight
    $289.00 processing
    $289.00 3rd row shades
    $897.00 tax (3.2% - 3% for Virginia state sales, .2% for county)
    $45.00 tags
    $28,972 TOTAL

FYI – We purchased the 3rd row shades from the dealer because the instructions provided online say something like I would need to remove plastic panels and then punch a hole in sheet metal to attach. Working on an interior of a car isn’t my bag so we paid the dealer for that option. The other options we plan on getting are the cargo tray and the cross bars. We took the online pricing for both the cargo tray (somewhere around $100) and the cross bars (somewhere around $150) with us to the dealer and they couldn’t come close to the aforementioned online pricing.
We also were interested in the 120,000 mile, 8 year extended “HONDA CARE!!!” warranty. Online pricing for this was just over $1,000.00, and the finance guy also wasn’t able to meet the online pricing.

    Hope this helps someone.

Another FYI – My process went like this.

    1. One month before purchase I emailed all the dealers in and around DC.
    2. They each responded with internet pricing
    3. I re-emailed the three lowest bidders saying I would be in that night to anyone who could offer best and final pricing.
    4. Not a single dealership bit to make any price change my calls days later didn’t produce any reductions.
    5. A month later, on the 31st of May I ask the dealer with the best price could do better, they told me NO.
    6. A week later I walked in to the dealership with the lowest original internet pricing, drove the car, checked it out for any problems, and then sat down at the table with my sales person. I asked him to give me a couple hundred more off and I would sign the papers. He left our table to talk to the manager and came back with the answer that he couldn’t give me any more off and he wouldn’t honor the original pricing I was offered online.
I immediately got up to leave, nobody stopped me, and so I drove home. About an hour later I called the internet sales manager furious that they wouldn’t honor the original pricing, even thought the quote I got a month before said it had a 3 or 4 day expiration. He asked me to come back and said they would honor the original pricing. I’d imagine if I waited things out a tad more I might have eventually gotten my additional 2 to 3 hundred off.

All in all, we love the van, but I must have spent over $1,000.00 in billable hours to purchase the van so in the long run it would have been better just to get the best price via e-mail and make a purchase.

There was one point that I was a bit shaky on when making the purchase. I feel like I made the right choice but just in case I didn’t someone here might be able to shed light on for others. They suggested purchasing the exterior paint protection and under body protection. Pressing really hard, saying things like “acid rain” and “hail damage” and “not covered by Honda”… In the end I opted out, but maybe others would suggest otherwise.

    Good luck to all!

I am also in the market for an EX-L in Northern Virginia.
Which dealership did you end up buying from?

I just read in last week's Washington Post a letter to "Click and Clack" (the two car-advice brothers who write for the Post), and they were answering a letter from someone asking about the outside & undercoating, and they replied that it was a waste of money.

Hope that makes you feel better!

Bugs, what is the model that your looking for and the price your being quoted? Frankly, I'm pretty sure the dealer incentive is applicable in all states and it doesn't matter where you are from. Sometimes honda financng is only applicable to residents of certain states but this isnt the case now. You should be able to come to IL, buy an EXL for around 26700-26950 including destination, AND get the honda APR financing 2.9 for 36 mos or 4.9 for up to 60mos. EXLRES around 28,400. You pay for a tag to take the car out of state and then pay your local sales tax to your local DMV/Secretary of sate. Why would honda hold back a dealer incentive if they are selling a car? smells like b.s to me. Tell me what your looking for and i can probably send you a few ways. Im not in the biz, but had been kicking tires for awhile.

Abol - I purchased from Fairfax and this is what I have been told, it could be totally false!!!

    1. Fairfax and Landmark are owned by the same family.
    2. Tysons was owned by this family as well and it was the number one dealership in NOVA. It has since been sold to a corporation and they have instituted some % based sales model that does not easily allow them to compete with Fairfax and Landmark.
    3. Sheehy gave me fairly good pricing...
    3. Bill Page and Browns internet pricing was horrible so they didn't really make the short list.

If I had it all to do over again I would get online, go to the dealership web page that has been mentioned on the forum a number of times. Its somewhere in New Jersey I think. Get a quote from them, send it to the online group of the dealership you want to purchase from (the one that is closest to your house). Tell them you will be in that evening to purchase at that price. Also tell them that you want to be in and out in under 1.5 hours. For some reason these guys are horrible about the speed of their work!

    Thanks

Congrads! That is great deal to me! You beat my Nor Cal OTD by $900.

Are South Cal purchases usually better than Northern CA?

Also, did you have a trade in?

Thanks for your sharing. What are "CLEAR all weather mats"? Do you mean INVISIBLE weather mats? If so, do you know which one is better between the INVISIBLE weather mats and rubber all-season mats? Many thanks.
  • jacketfanjacketfan Member Posts: 3
Saw donkeypunch's post above and thought it was interesting. I got the EXL-RES quote ($28280) from O'Hare and emailed an offer above that ($28500) to all the dealers in my area (Cincy). So far, nobody will touch--"No way--good luck. That just can't be true.". I do have one local offer for $28,800 without splash guards--that is the best I've been able to do. Waiting on the dealership that sassyaztec mentioned a month back but the guy hasn't been back in touch.

Probably going to take the $28,800 so I don't have to drive the 5 hours to Chicago with the two kids.

Bottom line; nobody in Cincy will touch the Chicago prices.

Yes INVISIBLE weather mats . http://www.autoanything.com/generic_pages/product_image.aspx?p_id=1460&g_id=82

I think the rubber all-season mats are the best but It looks very dirty if the dust got stuck inside the lines .
