This is the quote I recieved last night. What do you guys think?
Thanks!
did you get EX-L or EX-L DVD or EX-L Navi/DVD?
I am thinking of getting just EX-L but with dealer installed DVD which is $950 on the top of EX-L. Any advice on it?
As far as pricing advice you should be able to get pricing at around invoice if you negotiate with several dealers. It took us a few weeks to get to the price range we wanted and in the end we paid a little more to go to the dealer we felt would follow through with their promises. They did exactly what the said they would with no hassles so it worked out well. Good luck on your search and I hope you enjoy your new van as much as we are.
Can he/she please share the OTD price with itemization?
Also please indicate whether it was EX-L or EX-L DVD or EX-L navi.

P.S. Special thanks to donkeypunch1 for your write-ups and comments!
Did you use the donkeypunch method?
See my P.S. comment...yes, followed his method step-by-step. The most painless and stress-free car buying experience ever! Best wishes on finding your Ody. Group buy purchases are powerful because according to our salesperson, who is the internet sales manager, he doesn't get paid on commission but $/unit sold.

After much negotiating, I finally paid $23,800 OTD. I thought this was a good price for the Seattle area.
I think your price is good (atleast better than me). If you are not getting any lower quotes from other dealers, then you should go for it.

How does this sound? I hate the fact of a dealer fee, but seems standard around here.
Any thoughts???????
I'm getting either an EX or EX-L in the same timeframe here in the Birmingham area. The going dealer fee here is between $200 - 400... wow, $599 blows!
Jeff
At what point you divulge that you have a trade? After a written final price has been negotiated on New car?
Anytime before that and you lost the clarity on purchase price and trade price -all you have is a custom net price
Just look at this forum. Some people report ridiculously low prices. (Some are not real purchase but just quotes) It is only on further clarification you find out that they got screwed on trade-in price!!
Donkeypunch method (which I used in 80s and early 90s BEFORE internet, email and common knowledge of invoice price) works only when you do not have trade or are able to REALLY keep two transaction separate (not easy)
Not bad; in the Birmingham area, the initial offers I'm seeing are around $24.500. Taxes are lower here, though (around 3.5%) so I guess it's easier to sell em for more.
We finally bought one yesterday. Here's the breakdown.
$21,523 (base, destination, etching, all weather mats, cargo tray, splash guards)
+ $218 (license & fees)
= $21, 741 OTD (no taxes in Oregon)
$10,00 for our trade.
2.9% financing for 36 months.
My husband thinks we could have gotten more for the trade. We traded my 2003 Accord. It was clean, great condition, 50,500 miles, but had cracked windshield. Someone on the Real-World Trade-In Value board said they thought it would be about a $9,000 trade, and KBB trade-in value was anywhere from $9,400 for "fair" to $10,635 for "good."
$27,210 including dest (no additional options)
plus $210 doc fee then t,t,l
2.9% for 36 months
However I got more options at cost + TTL + no trade-in.
I sold my old car privately.
Fast forward a week to today. The sales manager called to tell me they can offer an 07 EX-L (base) for 27,100 OTD. This seems like a pretty good deal, and I'm wondering what you guys think about it? I don't know if I should go for it, or try to wait a little longer to see how much lower it might go...
This dealer is currently sitting on 21 2007 EX-Ls, so I have a feeling this deal could get sweeter if I wait it out a bit longer. What say ye?
Thanks for any opinions,
LitFuse
I was quoted $26,150 + tax today for a 2007 EXL.
If I found a dealer with 21 2007's I would offer $25,500 + tax
$25,500 + 6% tax + 27,030. The OTD price of $27,100 includes the tag transfer and whatever other little misc. fees there are, so it looks like I'm right there at $25,500. Looks like the "non-negotiable" $599 dealer fee has also disappeared from the equation in that quote.
Buy now with my pick of colors, or hold out a little longer in hopes of a (further) sweetened deal?
I asked a dealer (1.5 hrs away)to beat 25,900 and he offered me 25,500. I'm sure I could get him to go even lower. This dealer has twenty some 2007s on the lot.
Maybe 24,900.
Dealers closer to me told me they can't even get close to 25,500 and told me to go buy it.
Haven't done so because i'm afraid of all the issues ody owners are experiencing (brakes, humming noise, etc)
Sales agent discouraged buying back-up sensors as an additional accessory, but advised to wait for 2 months; Honda is adding Rearview Mirror W/rearview Camera Display as an accessory option.
Can any one confirm this?
Standard on 2008: Rearview Mirror with Rearview Camera Display (EX-L and EX-L with RES)
Note that Navi models (Rearview Camera Display on the screen).
Also you get more 2008 standard features (some price increases over 2007).
See what's new for 2008 here http://automobiles.honda.com/odyssey/whats-new.aspx
If you want to get a few more bucks then you have a better chance at the end of the year since time will be against them. You always want it, that you have time and they don't. I am a purchaser for a large construction company and the worst position you can be in is you are out of time. At the end of the year they are out of time (they will have additional taxes for inventory carryover).
Maybe instead of further price reduction you can get some accessories added or a few free oil changes. Roof cross bars are a nice feature. Maybe some Sand Flaps (we have mud in Ohio).
One big problem off the bat is that this 07 EX-L has the brake issues described elsewhere on the board. Lightly applying the brakes around 60 MPH makes the steering whell shimmy quite badly... An inexcusable problem for a new vehicle IMO.
I took a quick spin in a Sienna earlier today, and was pretty impressed. I think I may end up with an 08 Sienna LE instead. I think I'll inquire about an extended test drive in the Toyo.
This sucks, cause I really like the Ody, but I don't want any problems with a brand new vehicle.
Went with Bernardi, 26.5 plus other options. Was a showroom floor vehicle. Overall a good experience albeit a long one.
Maybe that particular one does, I have no idea. But for most of the 2007, the Odyssey was the best selling minivan in America and the vast majority of those vehicles don't have brake problems. Mine is only a month old, so I can't tell you much, but there are certainly no brake problems and no steering wheel "shimmy."
My advice would be to drive a different Odyssey and then make sure you drive the one you would actually buy.
Of course, if you like the Sienna better, great, but I didn't. The design feels more dated, and the handling is much less confident--mushy steering. Nice powertrain, though.
The LE Sienna does not have an acceptable level of equipment for me, either--you may decide differently. The XLE compares favorably to the EX-L, but you'll pay several thousand more right now.

Selling price-$25,535.09

My concern is whether to buy this or not since I heard a lot of brake( grinding noise, soft brake) issues on this forum . Is it a common problem, or is it with very few percentage of Van's out there. If you talk to people out there ( who donot visit this forum), they seems to be satisfied with the van.
Please ! Help me to make buying decision.

- sale price: $ 24,169
- doc fee: 331
(basically, I agreed to $24,500 for the total price (taxable basis), if you roll doc fee into the vehicle price)

- title 16.50
Total "OTD": $ 25,435.25
No trade involved
No extended warranty purchased

I feel like I did pretty well.
Good luck, fellow shoppers. It's a good time to buy an Odyssey... no doubt about it.
The sales manager is of course saying that he will personally guarantee my satisfaction, they will resolve any problem, etc. But in reading some of the stories in the brake thread, I am still a bit nervous.
This vehicle is actually for my mother, I'm just out doing the "leg work" for her. She really likes the EX-L (as do I, except for the brake issue), but I'd feel weird buying the Ody without giving the Sienna a chance. Consumer Reports is listing the Ody's reliability as average these days, and I really think that the Toyo offers more value for the dollar. They are certainly both good vehicles, but I can't help but feel that the Ody is coasting on it's reputation a bit lately. I'm aware that the EX-L is better equipped than the Sienna LE, but that's not a big deal to her. The handling difference is a point taken with me, but she may not care about that at all. Heck, she may prefer the more serene driving experience.
I think I will take the Sienna out for a couple of hours tomorrow afternoon and see what it's all about. I really could not get a feel for it with the 5 minute test drive that I took today.
I really wish I didn't have these nagging reservations about the Ody, because for the most part I really like the van. Plus, the "deal" aspect is much better than the Sienna. I just don't want to have to talk myself into something I don't feel 100% about.

I paid the price that I had quoted earlier and got 2.9% financing, and put no money down. Incredible.
Good luck to all!
Check out the toyota, I didn't like the "feel" of it and the Honda seemed a better family fit, but in hindsight, I'd have bought the Toyota or waited on the new Town & Country.
I didn't mind the ride or handling a bit either. It really is a more insulated and cushy kind of vibe, but I didn't think it was a floaty boat. I can see where it would be more enjoyable and less taxing on a long trip. Wind noise seemed about the same to me, road noise was noticeably reduced compared to the Honda.
Despite liking the Sienna just fine we decided to go with the Ody EX-L. There were no Sienna XLEs available for at least another 2-3 weeks, and they are in strong demand here, therefore not being heavily discounted. For $27138 OTD ( at 6% tax ) the deal on the EX-L was too good to pass up.
When I phoned the sales manager today for his "best" price, he quoted me $28,700 OTD, which is strange because he had called me a few days earlier to offer $27,138. At that time I asked if that was an OTD price, to which he replied "I don't know, hold on a sec. and I'll check". He came back in a minute and said yes, that is OTD for an EX-L . Anyway, I think maybe he screwed up when he said that, and was actually quoting me the price before TTL, as he was very flustered when he gave me the quote, and it sounded like he was talking to 2 or 3 other people besides me at the same time. Anyway that's what he told me today when I read his offer back to him. He said he must have hit his head on something to make me an offer like that. I don't know it's BS or not, but I do know he is new, and this was like his 4th day on the job at this dealer.
I asked him to honor the offer, which he eventually did after calling me back about 5 minutes later. He said I was getting the van for something like $24,800 before TTL + misc. I just said "sounds good to me".
I don't know the breakdown yet as I haven't actually purchased the van. From his $24,800 comment, it sounds like he's listing the $599 dealer fee in there.
I asked to take it as a loaner overnight to make sure there are no issues of the type I've read here in the forum. Took it on the interstate for a bit before driving home without any problems. I will go in to do the paperwork Sunday afternoon.
I hope this was the right decision, and not something I will end up regretting. The issues discussed here about the '07 were distressing to me, and something I considered with much thought. In the end, I figured that in a forum like this (and many like it) you will always see a disproportionate number of folks who are having issues vs. the ones who are satisfied with their purchase. This is simply because a dissatisfied customer is much more likely to be posting an opinion or problem than a satisfied one. The happy people are just out there driving their vehicles, never to be heard from in a venue like this. This is not to discount the ones who are having real problems, I'm just saying that I don't think we are seeing a representative sample in this medium.
At least I hope we're not.
Comments, criticisms, or ideas on how to hold the sales manager to his pledge of my complete satisfaction are welcomed.
