    I think BP here has 93. At least they did a few years ago. Others had 92 as premium; BP, 93. It's that stuff that soots up your car that's not designed to run on premium because it burns slow.

    which is the Greenbelt/Bowie area, normally there seems to be about a 10 cent jump from one grade to the next. So around here at lest, Premium is usually only about 20 cents more than lo-test.

    The price difference has been 10¢.

    Shell tried for a great differential with their V3 or whatever the new, wunderpremium was called. But I believe that died also. Can't check because Shells closeby have closed.\

    I didn't buy premiums; occasionally bought plus level. Didn't pay attention to Shell's V1.

    I'd always believed that the only difference between the grades was the level of anti-knock additives. It doesn't seem like this price differential should vary much based upon region.

    Gas prices have been dropping in the last few weeks, but experts warn that they have hit rock bottom.

    The latest plunge at the pump is thanks to a big drop in crude oil prices from $80 a barrel in July to less than $60 now, but gas prices aren't expected to drop any lower.

    In the news today.... Our good buddies at OPEC are cutting their production by a million barrels a day. Hey, at least they kissed us for a while! I guess they just cannot stop raping the world while they become more rich?

    Some of these OPEC guys can retire now and if they passed their money down to 50 generations of kids, the 50th generation of kids would still be millionaires. Don't you just love capitalism, they do............

    Also, our Alaska pipeline was shut down due to bad weather..... well duh..... Isn't this Alaska? You would think that they would have this covered? :mad:

    Saying they will cut production, and doing it are not the same. If one cuts and the others pick up the slack they get in a bidding war amongst themselves. There is no love lost between these 11 nations. It is all business and to some $55 oil is a great price. There is a lot of profit between production costs of $4 a barrel and the current basket price of $55 per barrel.

    Well if that's the case then why aren't they pumping at full capacity right now? Or are they? Either way you look at it there is the potential for OPEC to increase prices. If they are pumping at full capacity then anyone who cuts production is not going to see this deficit made up. If they aren't pumping at full capacity then it demonstrates a level of discipline and cooperation required to maintain a production quota.

    Some people are speculating that this million barrel cut won't have that much of an effect because it is a reduction below 28 million barrels a day and they have already been producing less than that. Regardless, if oil prices continue to fall OPEC will announce further cuts. Iran doesn't even have to cut production. They only have to make the occasional provocative statement regarding their nuclear intentions and how they would retaliate to interference. Eventually these factors will bring the energy traders back into the market as buyers, sending the price up even further.

    If Americans really wanted to see sub $2/gallon gas they would somehow figure out a way to collectively burn 5% less. That's not going to happen. For a country that theoretically has a free market economy we don't seem to grasp a fundamental principal. With a relatively fixed supply high demand will equate to high prices.

    I look at Middle Eastern oil differently. More like Oklahoma. By some fate you end up in a god forsaken place and it just happens to be covering billions of dollars worth of oil. Luck of the draw.

    And in this country if you enter into a cartel with your equally lucky neighbors in order to control the supply and price of your oil you have broken the law. The way OPEC operates is no different than the collusion the major airlines engaged in during the 60's and 70's. Fortunately for them they aren't bound by our laws.

    Big drop today for the first time in a while. The $2.31 stations went down to $2.27 and the $2.32 went to $2.28.

    Things are a lot different today than they were in 1998. The world was coming out of a global recession in 1998 so OPEC had some interest in providing cheap oil. Also OPEC has a lot more control than they did back then. The margin between production capacity and what is consumed has gone from about 7 million barrels a day to 1.5 million barrels a day. The significance here is that they are now in a position where they don't need to pull as much oil from the market to cause a shortage and there isn't as much room for cheating by the OPEC members.

    That's correct, oil prices are continuing to drop despite OPEC's call for a production cut. Something to be aware of is that the price for unleaded gas on the NYMEX is around $1.45. Obviously that's not what we pay because it doesn't include taxes, distribution, etc.. The point is that price is more in line with $45-$50 a barrel oil. So its a little out of whack on the low side. The prevailing wisdom for that is the US currently has an unusually high supply of unleaded gas. This glut was primarily created by refineries operating at near capacity and the US importing unleaded gas during the hurricane season to be prepared for the potential effects of a big storm. High supply = lower prices. If the reaction to these lower prices is greater consumption then obviously this excess supply will shrink and gas prices will creep up even if oil prices hold steady or fall a little further. Even if consumption doesn't increase the refineries have already reduced their output and we've stopped importing gasoline so either way the supply will eventually go down. It may take a few months for this to happen but in the mean time its unlikely that gas prices will drop more than another dime.

    Costco is in the lead for the lowest priced gas in San Diego. The 50 cheapest stations are all $2.37 or below.

    $2.23/gal for 87 no-lead at the Mustang ghastly station here in Willcox, AZ. The local Mustang ghastly station is proof that locals will go where the ghastly is cheapest. My son was a clerk there for as long as he could stand it and the place did such a steady business the place wore him out.

    No breaks and hardly any stopping for lunches, either. One clerk working when there should have been two workers working at the same time to make things run smoother.

    Speaking of worker rights...did y'all see that a guy on the right coast decided to organize a pizza driver's union when the company refused to pay drivers the $6.35 minimum wage in that particular right coast state? Yep, they have a pizza driver's union now. The pizza company is dismayed, they thought that since workers were tipped on their routes that they shouldn't have to even pay them minumum wage.

    Sometimes, rockylee, unions do start making some sense.

    Not for GM, Ford or DCX though. Different set of scenarios IMHO.

    Still higher than the $2.07 I paid last Saturday for Hess in another part of the area.

    $2.05 appears to be the target for the cheaper areas. $2.15 $2.12 is the typical price.

    Oil prices fall and the local price (supply and demand?) have raised the nominal price from $1.99 to $2.12.

    In our area most stations seem to have gone from free air to the 75 cent pay pumps. Is this true in other areas? In the past there were about 40% with pay pumps>

    ...from a training class in Baltimore, I drove through Laurel, Maryland, and saw a Shell station that was offering 87 octane for $1.999 per gallon. And you should have seen the traffic jam waiting to get at it! And the goofy thing is, nearby there were other stations offering it for like $2.039 or $2.059 per gallon that were almost empty. Is it really worth it to wait a half-hour in line to save 4-6 cents per gallon?

    With the engine running to keep the car warm or cool? Or the other side of the spectrum. I see people filling up at one station when across the street gas is as much as 50 cents a gallon cheaper.

    He's still the coach? I can remember when he started in 1966. 40 years -- totally amazing. (Same longevity as Edmunds!)

    Anyway I paid $2.02 for Hess 87 today in central VA. Plus was $2.10, 93 was $2.20, and diesel was $2.28.

    Meanwhile, only about 40 miles away in a neighboring town, there are 3 places selling 87 for only $1.79, according to the local TV station's website.

    Virginia probably does have the $1.79 gas war price - they have the lowest state average of $2.04.

    In spite of all the tough talk about trying to keep the price at 60 bucks, OPEC is selling oil for $54 a barrel. I say it keeps falling.

    IF any...so that the price will keep dropping. We should all cut back on usage...all of us...IT will take everyone, but sometimes people in general lack foresight and tend to blame the problem on others...while wasting lots of gas themselves....

    IF we keep conserving, then OPEC and Venezuela will cave in.....

    start by everyone spending 10 min to keep tires inflated and removing all unused junk in the trunk.

    My brother in law had a heavy tool box and paint and other things...even though he uses them at his rental property maybe 3 days out of a month.

    My father in law used to keep a whole set of golf clubs and full set of car wash items in his car...even though he only went to the golf course once in 5 years .....and washes his car once every 6 months.... :cry:

    gas is still $2.38 at the corner store in CV, CA.

    Biodiesel went up , to $3.70 a gal, even though gas prices came down. I heard that the oil companies wanted revenge for the making of biodiesel, so jacked up the price of methanol, a key chemical for making biodiesel. I still filled up with biodiesel at the higher price, even though regular diesel is only $2.58

    Amazing. I went 39 days between fillups and the price I paid dropped from $2.859 on Sept 4th to $2.089 last Friday.

    Our Walmart has been dealing 87 octane @ $1.92 for the past week :( . That's using their prepaid card.

    Using cash money will cost you 3 cent more per gallon.

    Well, could be worse...alot WORST..

    Since the difference of 87 & 93 is 0.35-0.40. Its worth time consuming to mix up 87 & 93 to get 91 Octane at the pump to save $1.80 per fill up.
