Gary, anyone paying $2.93 in San Diego for regular unleaded is not shopping around. Lowest price I saw in San Diego is $2.76 for reg unlead and for diesel it's $2.73.
One of the very few places in the country where diesel is cheaper right now....most places, diesel is still 8-15 cents higher.
What an irony - the only place diesel is cheaper is a place where you cannot buy a TDI new...... :shades:
You better check the date on your source. $2.76 was the price on Wednesday. Thursday was $2.86 and Friday $2.93. It has gone up every day this last week at the ARCO next to my bank. The independent station closest to my home is at $3.09 for regular and $2.93 for diesel. This is consistent with last year. As soon as regular went higher than the price of diesel I sold my Passat TDI within a couple days on the market. I sold my diesel RV yesterday after 6 months on Craigslist. Knee jerk reaction.
December of 2005 when we drove the new Sprinter RV from Colorado the price of diesel in Phoenix was below regular. I filled at a Love's station in Chandler right on the highway. It was $2.21 per gallon. When I got to San Diego diesel was $2.69. Not far off from this year. It is creeping up as we get used to the higher prices. Check the dates on those cheaper prices. What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours.
The ARCO stations at $2.93 yesterday are at $2.97 this morning. I pass 4 ARCO stations in the 3 mile drive to where we go walking along the river. Looks like the upward spiral is slowing with only a 4 cent rise in price over 24 hours">. I guess we are lucky that our part of the county is the cheapest<img src="
The ARCO in La Mesa is holding at $2.75 on diesel. That is the station I used most of the time when I had the Passat TDI. That Costco is usually the lowest. I do not go to that part of San Diego very often. It is about 18 miles from me. Not worth it to drive that far. Prices have risen just about 30 cents this week. I have a couple weeks left on this tank so not a big deal. I have averaged 412 miles per month on my truck since new. Gas is a very small part of my budget. A little less than my vehicle insurance.
There are some gas station situations I just cannot figure out. In a nearby community, there's a spot with 3 gas stations within a stretch of 100-150 yards or so. One of them MAY be a full serve place, but I'm not 100% sure on that. With gas here sitting at $2.55 everywhere, these three have pricing of $2.55, $2,61, and $2.69 for 87.
And what REALLY confounds me was seeing people at all three places filling up at the same time!
The busiest gas station in our immediate area is an independent. They went from $3.09 yesterday to $3.19 today. They did not raise the price of diesel it is still $2.95. They are still the busiest station around. Maybe they give green stamps. I know they do not charge the 10 cents per gallon extra for using a credit card. Many stations here have both prices posted. Cash and credit. Maybe we will hit $4 this go around. I wish it would help ease the traffic. No let up in sight.
ARCO (BP) stations do not take credit cards. Only ATM with a surcharge for using it. I pay cash to avoid any extra charges.
THAT's what happened to Arco! BP swallowed them up.
I think they were still the old Atlantic Richfield when they went to the no credit cards deal.
I always think BP made a mistake with their Amoco marketing. When they bought up Amoco it was the most "recognized as very good" brand around. So of course they made it disappear except on the pumps. Silly corporates. Kind of the gas equivalent of Nissan dumping the Datsun nameplate. Giving away tons of earned good will.
2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring, 2014 Mazda 3 Sport Hatchback, 1999 Mazda Miata 2004 Toyota Camry LE, 1999.
I should clarify that the ARCO stations in CA do not take credit cards. Across the border in AZ they do take them. It surprised me because I figured it was a system wide practice. I can tell you the folks I worked with in Prudhoe Bay were not happy when BP took over. BP is not a good employer. They would search rooms at random trying to catch people with alcohol. Very repressive tactics. I turned down a very high paying job with BP after they took over ARCO.
It could just be the big ARCO in Yuma on the border. The price was a lot cheaper than in El Centro and the auto tellers accepted credit cards, cash or ATM. Very modern station.
Today 03/10/07 I took my grand daughters out for the day. Every station I passed I looked at their prices.
Most are charging $3.10 for 87 Octane, $3.20 for 89 Octane & $3.30 for 91 Octane. This is in Lancaster CA.
I did see a few that were a little less and some that were a little more.
One Arco was selling 91 Octane for $3.16, 89 Octane for $3.10 & 87 Octane for $3.00. This was the least expensive 91 Octane that I seen all day. I did see some 87 Octane being sold for around $2.98 per gallon.
On 03-06-07, 4 days ago I paid $3.00 per gallon for 91 Octane. I do not know or have any idea where the news is getting their quotes from we they say the stations are only raising their prices a few penny’s a week. They must get their information from the station owners, as they are way off.
I about lost my bowels when I entered into my hometown of California City CA. The one Station at the end of town had changed his price from the time I left this morning around 10AM from $3.30 for 91 Octane to $3.56 by 6:30PM. That’s a $.26 jump in his price in 8 hours.
We get thousands of people on the weekends from the LA area that come to Calif. City to ride their dirt bikes, ATV, etc. So for the past month the 3 gas stations that we do have raise their price's every weekend.
But this was completely ridiculous and from what I can see truly gouging. When approximately 30 miles a way you could get the same 91 Octane fuel for $.40 less per gallon.
I wish that our government would nail these people to the wall. They talk a good game and say that they will fine the stations that gouge, but I think that it is all talk. I hate to say it, but the Iranians own 99% of the independent stations here in California and probably every where else too. :confuse:
Just purchased Sunoco "ultra?"93 last night at $2.77! Saw it at $2.81 further up the road. I really didn't need to get gasoline, but felt I better fill up before the price rose again.
They would search rooms at random trying to catch people with alcohol.
What ???? You mean hotel rooms ? :surprise: I think in the past you told me something about this with your former employer as it was forbidden to use alcohol anytime while you were a employee. I think you said it was in Alaska ?
Well I and the family went to Logan, New Mexico "Ute Lake" (NE' NM) yesterday to stay with my Father in-law. We drove from (home) Dumas, Tx where filled-up his Ford Pick-up at the Phillips 66 station @ $50.00 in Dumas. Gas was $2.45 a gallon. :surprise: We drove to Dalhart, Tx to pick-up a few supply's at my FIL house. We then drove straight to Logan, NM. We later took a trip to Tucumcari, NM to stock-up on grocery's and supply's for the cottage and bass boat. Gas was pretty much $2.42-$2.48 everywhere along our trip. I told my wife this would be the perfect situation to own a Cadillac Escalade ESV as we wouldn't need 2 cars and would have plenty of room. We had a great time put fresh gas in the boat at $2.48 and I, FIL, Wife, my son went out on the bass boat freezing our tails off so my son could fish for a half-hour. I told my son next time when it's warmer we will fish longer. Trying to explain that to a 3 yr. old
The point is you took your son fishing. That is a GOOD thing. I think you would look good in a Diamond Pearl Escalade.
BP has camps they provide housing for their employees in the Arctic oilfields. They have Zero tolerance on drugs and alcohol. They also search your luggage before you leave Anchorage to fly to work.
Taking a grandson to the Wild Animal Park today. What will gas prices be? Maybe regular has peaked at a little over 3 bucks?
BP has camps they provide housing for their employees in the Arctic oilfields. They have Zero tolerance on drugs and alcohol. They also search your luggage before you leave Anchorage to fly to work.
I can understand the zero tolerance on drugs, but telling your employee he/she can't enjoy a beer on his hours off the clock I think is to much employer involvement for me.
Where's the Wild Animal Park at gagrice ? I hope you and him had a good time. I assume it's some sort of a zoo but with a more "natural" enviroment ?
My wife and I drove by the local Dalhart, Tx GM dealer on our wat to NM, and in fact both saw a white diamond pearl 2007' Cdillac Escalade. The list is *gulp* $64K and that was without 22's like we'd want. The Escalades are absolutely beautiful and I'd love to own one. I told my wife maybe in the future. I told her lets see what we get on our next union contract and then maybe we could stretch our budget to absorb such a costly vehicle but the price of gas is another expense that needs to be calculated into the cost of ownership. My GM discount would knock-off probably $7-8K and if GM throws some money on the hood it might be a viable option. Dallas, Tx GM dealers can sometimes whip my GM discounts butt but we will see. I'm going to need to save $12-15K off to make a Escalade work for me with the price of gas going up unless they come out with a good lease rate. Right now the only car company's I see given attractive lease deal's is Ford and BMW.
Rocky
P.S. let us know what the price of petro costs you? :surprise:
We went to the San Diego Zoo instead. The Wild Animal Park is owned by the San Diego Zoo. It is more spread out. It was so hot (95 degrees) out there yesterday that we took him to the Zoo. His first time. He loved the polar bears. They were so active. I did not see any gas under $2.999 per gallon. Diesel was $2.85. The Zoo was packed with tourists already. It must be Spring break. I don't think the gas price is having any negative impact on people traveling.
PS get an older Escalade. I hear the new ones have cheap uncomfortable seats in them.
$2.28 looks the lowest up to $2.54 at higher stations.
I think I'll fill up today. Stations last week jumped $.25 in one day almost everyone up to $2.59. Those who don't like roller coasters don't want to live in this area. Gas prices are like the weather. They blow in and blow up.
Man you guys in the eastern states are nothing but a bunch of whinning snibbling babies. I would love to see how your post would read if you had to pay what we are paying in So. Calif.
Today I filled up at $3.20 per gallon, 91 Octane, 21.886 gallons. It cost me $70.00 to fill up today. This was the cheapest fuel around. Everyone else is $.10 to $.26 more per gallon on top of the $3.20.
A few months ago I could fill up for about $50.00. So right now at the price I paid today it is costing me an additional $20.00 or more per tank. I average approximately 7 tanks a month. Try to get a grip on that. And then think about those people who have to drive for a living and how much it is costing them?
And you guys have the nerve to complain about $2.54 per gallon. Can anyone say, BABIES.
And do not get me wrong, I think that $2.54 a gallon is still way to much, but it is a heck of a lot less than $3.56 per gallon.
Are you having special blends that they charge more for? The story here is that our prices have gone up and will go up because refineries have to shut down to clean, and to reset to produce the blends required by the wonderful EPA...
IIRC they forwent those after the hurrican hit to increase production and I don't recall the sky falling because of increased pollution. In your areas was there increased pollution? Another gift from the green folk.
PS. Don't mean to be a whiner but it should be cheaper. I'd be really yelling at $3.00+. I filled up at $2.28 -.10 Kroger discount. Expect more on Wednesday.
The ARCO stations in my area went from $3.01 to $3.07 today. Premium is at $3.27. UCAN our gasoline watchdog says the average is now at $3.16 for regular, $3.37 for Premium and diesel is hanging below 3 bucks at $2.97. Too bad you still cannot buy anything but a monster truck with diesel around here.
It just keeps going up and nobody is listening or cares.
A couple of days ago I filled up for $70.00. I use super unleaded 91 Octane @ $3.20 per gallon.
Today I seen that it is now costing $3.36 for the same gas
I guess it won't be long and it will cost me $100.00 to fill up my tank again.
We still have a few stations that have been gouging for the past couple of weeks and charging $3.56 a gallon. I hope that their business slows to a crawl and maybe next time we go through this they will remember that it's not nice to rip off your neighbors.
It seems that some people are still pretty lucky and only paying $2.55 and crying about that.
I again have to say that I wish that our government would put a national average on all gas.
Then maybe something might happen when the people who have been paying $.75 or less per gallon than California also have to bear the grunt.
You do know that the EPA has several lawsuits against CARB for just what you are talking about. According to the EPA, CARB has overstepped their bounds in several areas. Our high gas prices have nothing to do with the FEDS. They would like consistency. CARB wants to make their own rules. They do not care how things are done in other states. You are paying that extra 75 cents for designer gas. You should be happy the state is looking out for you. You may have to buy a little car that does not use Premium by the truckload.
Sure we will. When the economy in this country hits bottom as it did after the dot.com bubble burst in 98 we had cheap gas. The housing bubble is poised for the same kind of crash. When the US economy goes in the toilet, so goes the world. Oil will come down in price. When we pull our troops and quit shooting off our guns and rockets, how many folks do you think will be out of work unable to pay that huge mortgage they are stuck with?
ripe for a housing/stock market crash. But is it because of the war in Iraq?
Will the housing market really crash. Not so sure. It's in an adjustment period. Defaults are up but houses are still being bought and sold. Interest rates are still very, very attrctive. By design.
The war in Iraq shows no signs of letting up.
Ghastly has nothing driving it down by any forces at work here. It will stay up...sure, you say it's up now because of spring break. Watch what happens after spring break. We need ghastly. We will spend on ghastly because we have to.
Do you really think it'll drop to a U.S. average of $2.08/gal for 87 no-lead? I don't. It's staying up boys.
Put on a good Tragically Hip CD and take a drive and relax. Breathe in the fresh air. And don't worry about ghastly prices.
There's nothing you can do about them anyway. I don't want to ride a bike. I want to drive a car. A car I choose. A foreign-made car, either South Korean or Japanese-built. I like driving my car and don't see myself becoming a full-time walker or bike rider anytime soon...basically never.
Oh, the lowest ghastly price here in the high desert...$2.45/gal for 87 no-lead at the Mustang gas station downtown. That was for Friday, March 16th, 2007.
I almost believe the hype about the designer fuel. It is a good excuse for the refineries to use
However it is not true that it cost more to produce the special blend of fuel than it does to produce it without.
Examples are: 1. They have been adding products to the fuel for environmental concerns as far as I can remember since the 1970ties when it cost $.75 per gallon.
2. Two of my Nephews work at refineries in Northern Calif.1 works the Shell Refineries in Martinez, CA and the other works at the Chevron Refineries in Richmond, CA. Both of these Refineries were shut down at the same time for annual maintenance. a. Coincidence, I doubt it since they were scheduled several months prior to being shut down. b. Then of course during the cleaning, x-raying of pipes, etc. of the systems they both had mishaps and an explosion occurred which also resulted in a fire. Not on the same day, but within a couple of weeks of each other. c. These were Environmental, CAL OSHA and OSHA violations that cause the explosions and fires. No doubt the refineries had back up plans for such mishaps. d. It appears that there are loopholes that allow the refineries to keep from being fined. When such mishaps occur they get penalty points. When they receive a certain amount of points added up they are fined e. Prior to their points getting to that number they are allowed to transfer points in between each other and across state boarders. f. The Eastern Refineries do not have as many mishaps and so they take some of the points from the Western Refineries in order to keep their balances low enough as not to raise a red flag and get penalized. g. This is true, sad but true. As far as I'm concerned it is unethical and should be illegal for them to do this. But we have politicians that are getting their hands greased by the big oil refineries just for such by-laws. h. Needless to say, but these mishaps did not add to the down time for either refinery.
3. To top that off in Southern Calif. a few weeks later the Refineries in Taft was also down for maintenance and had a mishap also.
One with any knowledge of environmental laws, CAL OSHA laws, and the FED OSHA laws knows that all of these refineries should have been severally punished. Not so, the news reported the Taft incident, but as far as I know the incidents that happened up in Northern Calif. where both hush, hush.
Is it a coincidence that all 3 refineries are down for normal maintenance during the same period of time just prior to the fuel going up at least $1.50 per gallon?
If this gets anyone upset, angry, pissed off, etc. then you have got my point. If you did not get upset or pissed off after reading this then there is something wrong with the way you think.
Just talked to my buddy in Anchorage. They are still paying $2.35 per gallon. They are always behind in pricing.
I am not optimistic about housing. Too many people paid too much. A cousin of mine got laid off in escrow because it is a dead market right now in SO Ca. She went right to work for an attorney that processes foreclosures. It is getting real bad. Can't say as I feel bad for the flippers that ran the prices up so high.
I agree with you on the housing troubles. Sort of like the Mitsubishi debacle of several years ago...the 0-0-0 thing when all those young dips defaulted on their loans. Because they could. Dumb on their parts, though. Messed up Mitsubishi real bad for a while. I think they're back now, though. I sure like the new '08 Lancer.
But the house flippers have indeed flipped theirselves over like a turtle on its back. Or like a kid with a big backpack that gets pushed down on his back and can't regain his balance. They'll need help getting back up again.
I just have an economical "feeling" that ghastly will not dip below $2.00/gal for 87 no-lead ever again. I have been wrong before, though. We'll see. It would be nice if it would drop like the Spurs at playoff time.
We're paying this for 87 regular here in South Florida right now. I do think that we'll see gas go down eventually to the $2.30 point but not in the near future. Eventually the war will have to end and the housing market will adjust itself. We'll just have to wait to see when this all happens. I prefer to be a bit more optimistic than most when talking about the fuel situation. The world runs on transportation and especially in America, people love their cars...period. It's the American way to have your car outside ready to take you away.
we sure do. I remember a fellow worker at Boeing in Everett, WA, was walking in to work one day and saw me looking back at my car as we walked towards the airplane factory.
He goes "I always wondered about people that look back at their car when they start walking in to work. Did they forget to put their car in gear and set the parking brake or something?"
I mumbled something not meaningful to him at the time but the reason is is we love our cars. We do.
Look at my nickname..."iluvmysephia1." We don't all love the same cars but most of us regulars here on Edmunds I would say love our cars. We expect it to be out there in our parking lot and we expect it to start right up and take us away.
87 no-lead was $2.59/gal at the Circle K in Willcox, AZ, tonight.
We paid a low of $2.29 at a Phillips 66 (if I recall correctly) for 85 octane in Hurricane, UT (not our car -- an Alamo rental). The high was exactly one dollar more at $3.29 per for 3 gallons of 87 at a "desperation stop" no-name place in Truxton, AZ on historic Route 66. We took a chance because prices were pushing $3 on I-40 in and around Flagstaff, so we thought "off the beaten path" prices would be lower.
Well, when you're the only gas station in maybe 50 miles, you can charge what you want...but this was enough to get us easily to Kingman.
Yo...Rocky, we saw the Mustang stations for the first time -- seems the deal is they're teamed with Shell or Conoco?
Northwest NM prices were about $2.49/gallon. In Vegas, it's more like $2.70.
Back home in central Virginia, the prices haven't changed, thank goodness! Still $2.32 to $2.34 for 87. Eat your hearts out guys! But it's COLD here, not like the 70s and 80s we enjoyed in the southwest!
And Rocky, just my opinion, take it for what it's worth, you ought to stop dreaming about Escalades, Denalis, and Velites; buy something more practical and cheaper, and save those bucks for your kids' college education funds.
We had a 2007 Pontiac G6 sedan -- a decent car which I'll write more about in another forum. Still prefer my Camrys though. Got a chuckle remembering Fintail once called the G6 the "rental inchworm," presumably because of the "roller coaster" beltline.
That post was one of several that the host deleted on one of the now read-only "GM vs. the world" forums. But I digress...
OK, So the two pessimists agree. I say some place in the US will go under 2 bucks for regular sometime this year. Not CA most likely. They have people here happy when it drops to $2.50 a gallon.
I hope prices stay HIGH because that is good for lowered consumption and more public transportation and the end of gas guzzlers as daily commute vehicles.
I agree that SOMEWHERE in the US of A, at SOME point, at least ONE station will sell gas for $1.99 or lower, at SOME point in the future.
But the USA average price will never, EVER be below $2.00 a gallon again.
You may be right there. When was the last time it was below $2 nationwide? Long time ago I'm sure. Many would consider yours, an elitist view. I know you are not a "Do as I say, not as I do" kind of guy. Unlike the lowlifes in Washington DC. Congress does not care what the price of gas is. You and I fill the tanks on their Limos and Suburbans. Example needs to start at the top. I do not see that happening.
I just filled my truck at Costco for $3.03 per gallon. I used 20.66 gallons since Feb 26th.
Yep $2.45 a gallon is the cheapest I've heard of outside of that one in Amarillo. I wished I would of waited to fill up. Oh Well maybe my next fill-up gas will be cheaper ?

IIRC they forwent those after the hurrican hit to increase production and I don't recall the sky falling because of increased pollution. In your areas was there increased pollution? Another gift from the green folk.
PS. Don't mean to be a whiner but it should be cheaper. I'd be really yelling at $3.00+. I filled up at $2.28 -.10 Kroger discount. Expect more on Wednesday.

Never.
Ever.
Again.
Pop this thing into auto haiki.

Over.

However it is not true that it cost more to produce the special blend of fuel than it does to produce it without.
Examples are:
When they receive a certain amount of points added up they are fined
87 - $2.419 - up 4 cents
89 - $2.519 - up 4 cents
91 - $2.579 - up 4 cents
93 - $2.619 - up 4 cents
diesel - $2.479 - up 2 cents
kcram - Pickups Host
But the house flippers have indeed flipped theirselves over like a turtle on its back. Or like a kid with a big backpack that gets pushed down on his back and can't regain his balance. They'll need help getting back up again.
I just have an economical "feeling" that ghastly will not dip below $2.00/gal for 87 no-lead ever again. I have been wrong before, though. We'll see. It would be nice if it would drop like the Spurs at playoff time.

The Sandman

USA Average Gas Price will never ever be below $2.00 again.
Visited San Fran last week, paid $3.299 in Gorman CA and $3.149 in Indio. Whew !!
Gas will never go below $2.00/gal for 87 no-lead again.

So the two pessimists agree.
I just filled my truck at Costco for $3.03 per gallon. I used 20.66 gallons since Feb 26th.
March 7th, 2004 or thereabouts.... :shades:
