Great looking truck!!! Congratulations! Nice pictures also, the best setting for a truck is in the woods or the mountains camping, fishing or hunting!
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
Cindy, finally pictures! It looks great. The alum wheels look good, I'm glad I ordered them. The gray is nice too. I'll post some pictures of mine once I get it. (Stupid dealer had it a week and didn't get the prep done yet!)

Well The Truck is finally in my driveway. It's great, I love it! With a whopping 80 miles on it the only thing I can find wrong is a little door panel vibration with max volume and bass on the stereo. Otherwise perfect. Oh well there is that little clearcoat defect I found when I picked it up. I don't know how that is going to end up. The dealer promised to take care of it but we all know about salespeople...

Cindy, I'll post some pictures soon so you can see what you missed with Pewter/Graphite! Ha!

    Welcome to Silverado Land.
Sorry it took me a couple of days, haven't been keeping up.

So, tell me all about it! How do you like the way it drive?

Hey I know you haven't had it long, but, I noticed that sometimes I come out of the store and in the parking lot -- right next to me, another brand new Silverado parks next to mine. How sweet. Makes me smile.

I had one next to me a 1500 2wd Carmine Red. Sorry Vince, I only like the Metallic Charcoal Grey. Try and conVINCE me with your pictures!!

    Congrats!!

How does it drive? It drives great! Of course it's no Cadillac, you know when there are bumps in the road but for a 3/4 ton 4x4 it is really nice. The smaller bumps around town are really smoothed out and the big ones are well damped even though you bounce a little. One weak area is expansion joints on the freeway. That is difficult for most cars as well. I'm quite happy with it overall but I've found a few little things to complain about.

The idle is a little rough, does yours do that? It's not bad, just I can feel the motor bouncing around a little.

The seats are great but I can't understand why GM made the lumbar support able go sooooo far out but not all the way in. Some people don't like that much lumbar and you can't get rid of it, even though they have a huge range on the adjustment. Have you ever tried cranking that thing all the way? I can't imagine anyone actually using it that way.

Here's my big question of the day. I just drove it about an hour at night with the dash lights dimmed to about half brightness. When I got home the dimmer wheel was so hot I could barely hold my finger on it. Does yours do that? I can understand it getting warm but this seems like it could become a fire hazard.

What do you mean you only like Charcoal Gray? You can't change your story now because it's in writing! You said Pewter would have been your first choice. Just wait and see when I get some pictures, the Pewter with matching wheel flares is the best! I am starting to really like the alum. wheels too, they look very truckish. I only wish it had wider tires.

Enough for tonight. Look forward to your response.

All 6.0's got the idle thing....mine too.

The lumbar doesn't appear to have that problem in the 6 way power ones with power lumbar?

As for the whhel getting hot?....hmmmm..never noticed that one.

Better get it checked for a short or something....before it goes up in smoke one day....seriously..

    - Congrats

Yes, I notice the bumps but that's driving a pickup truck. Just not fun when you're on a long stretch of highway - no restroom in site.

Don't worry about the engine idle. Its a big engine - Tim and I have been reassured its just the way its suppose to be. I think, Tim, you took it in (and for other minor reasons) and they found nothing, right? You really DO get use to it then you will hardly notice.

As for the panel lights, never dimmed them, but I am going to try it to see if it gets hot. Will let you know.

Have you checked your air pressure? Most likely came with 40-psi all around. Have adjusted mine to all 45, seems to be doing well.

What I meant about pewter vs. charcoal grey was the more I see pewter, the more I like charcoal grey. I love the way pewter looks at sunset though, and my grey too.

The lumbar I like cranked 1/2 way. Never noticed it not going all the way back in though. Use it, its good for your back! I think this truck has the most comfortable seats I ever sat in on a vehicle. Especially on a long haul.

Can't wait to see your truck dude. I feel like we've all known each other a long time going through the processes of this darn truck. Way to go. Enjoy it. So far, not any problems with mine, still need to grease that wind noise. But since its been cool out I have the windows up and the radio cranked. Wait til you have to maneuver in traffic and need to put the pedal down, it really goes, and sometimes even when you don't expect it, you squeal the tires just pulling away. Its awesome. We (you, me, tim) have quite an engine. Tim, I think I'm getting a new one in 3 years! We'll what improvements there are then, huh?
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
Thanks to you both for your response. I suspected the engine idle was normal. That doesn't mean I like it but I can get used to it. It's a little frustrating since this is a new high-tech engine with computer control. I'd feel better if I understood why it's rough, like if the cam profile was not optimized for idle or something. Maybe Dave40 can shed light.

I drove today with the panel lights not dimmed at all and the wheel barely got warm. I'll have to get it good and hot before I bring it to the dealer so they believe me.

On the color thing, I really really like the Pewter on MY truck. Don't care about anyone else's. My truck is quite unique because it is a regular cab. They are few and far between on the roads around here. I can understand the need for ext. cab but I've never liked the look as well as the traditional style.

Tomorrow I start the long process of adding stuff to it. It's going to be hard to drill holes in a brand new truck but oh well.

    See Ya.

I have determined that 40 in the front is too low and creates too much of a bulge.

    I run 50 front..and 40 rear now.

seems good combo. Pump up rear to 80 when hauling.

What are u gonna add to ur truck ??? I am just curious i wanna get nerf bars and possibly a grill guard.
Colors: They are all very nice but im sorry i gotta go with inidgo blue. In some light it looks black others purple others grey and up close blue. Ill admit silver is probably the nicest but way to common i want somthing that looks different.
Now u all have yours thats cool next its my turn i am ordering first wk of march :)Have it all planned out already started talking about what the salesguy is gonna give me for free. Did any of u get anything??? I think he wants to do this because i am traveling pretty far to buy it. Long story but short version the dealers suck around here i have had so many bad things happen. Well have fun everyone driving ur brand new trucks i guess ill just have to chill driving my dads 2000 blazer for a few more months i guess its not that bad at least its a 4x4.

For appearance/protection outside I'm just adding stainless steel bed rail caps from Putco, a Tuffliner bed liner, and a small step probably from Carr. They have a highly polished alum. version that looks like chrome (so they say). I think the pewter looks good with silver metal accessories. The rest of the add-ons go under the truck.

Beautiful truck! Great looking dog too! I bet that 6.0L is a lot of fun.

    -powerisfun
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
Yes it is. I haven't jumped on it too hard yet but it sure is easy to break the tires loose. Dusty (doggy) doesn't like the 6.0L much, she gets tossed around too much!
  • planejaneplanejane Member Posts: 167
    Awesome - Awesome - Awesome!
Very nice picture, even nice doggie. Now I want to post my doggie picture. He looks just like yours, just yellow!

What else is new with you and the truck lately?

Well, I put the Tuffliner in it. It fit pretty well but not perfect. I got the new mounting parts for the Hellwig sway bar but I haven't put it in yet. Tonight I bought a cheap cassette deck which I'm going to mount under the dash so I can play books on tape. I have only the in-dash CD player so am forced into this. I wish they would have put the cassette and CD player both in the dash like the last version of this truck. I still haven't figured out the seat cover thing yet. For now I put a heavy blanket on the seat and cover it completely with a sheet. Poor doggy, she doesn't get to ride with me as often now.

I'm having a mobile paint guy come to my work tomorrow to touch up the paint. The dealer is paying for it. There was some globby paint stuff in one area, very small, and the dealer tried to rub it out. The glob is gone but so is the clear coat in a 1/4" circle. So this guy will do the touch up. You can hardly see it but I'm worried how it will age if not fixed.

I got the camper mounts in and just have some wiring to do. I can't wait to see how it handles the camper. It's going to be so fun going up freeway hills at 60+ mph. I'm used to 40-50 mph now for any serious hill. So that's the scoop. Take care.

Yes, as I mentioned I switched my ISP. I have a cable modem now and wow, it is great! What a difference. When I looked at your pics from the Silverado topic, it took like 0.5 seconds to display the whole picture. Plus it doesn't tie up my phone line. All for the same price as a dialup connection + second phone line ($40).

I'll repost my pics once I get a chance to figure out the web page deal on my new service.

The two tone truck black with grey with the grey flares is a very nice looking truck. Seen one back in august when the 2000's first came out. Tim have u added any more accesories to your truck like nerf bars? Do u know of anyone who has if u havent? Are they easy to install yourself or should a professional do it? I am curious i am gonna get them and soon i might take our 2000 blazer to get some if my mom will let me. Hey in the chevymall catalog they have a nice 4x4 chevy antenna Tim u should order the magazine they have all kinda silverado stuff i just remembered i have to order a shirt hey i guess if u cant have the truck u might as well have the appareal.

Our blazer has one washing it sucks ive lost the metal thingy so many times in the engine. I wouldnt get one.
sorry i forgot about ur running boards stupid me ive seen those on later silverados 98's and lower and they look nice but i like the nerf bars.

    Ryan
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    No metal thingee here.

5 nylon washers into the underside of the hood...and 5 screws into them. Tons of room for washing between.

I wasn't going to get one either...but after 3 months of driving 80 to work...a ton of front end chips convinced me.

...i doubt you have seen Pipeline Boards out there too often..

Check out the Supertubes....like nerf bars..on;y better style...

Don't get cheapees....or they look like crap a year later...

I am going with RHINO probably for my nerf bars. Our bug guard is attacthed with 4 velcro thingies and two metal things under the hood u have to take em off and remove the bug guard to clean and dry the front of the truck. THe brand is GTS u know the popular one.
And yes i have seen many of those running boards that look like nerf bars they are popular around here. Ive seen em mostly on the old bodystyle truck and tahoes. Hey have u seen the new tahoes?? i know they arent out but pics of them look sweet the more i see them the more i want to buy one of those. Hopefully my dad will buy one next yr and ill get to have my own silverado and switch with him and drive a tahoe.

    Ryan
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
I like the look of the GTS but the way it is designed to stay on sucks. Its like they threw some stuff together to hold it on there isnt a problem except for when u have to take it off and put it back on its a pain in the butt.
Those tubes are nice. I havent fully decided i need to go out to stores and look closer to when i am gonna get my truck in. Hey Tim did u get the compass in the mirror? Was it an option? I thought in the 2000 LS it was standard but i seen its a $175 option u think its worth it? Another thing on nerf bars around here i dont see many very rare usually are regular cabs with the small ones so i think it would be kinda unique here.

stylish lexan/plastic guard were more popular back in the early days.....GTS was on top..

the GTX bug deflectors and when you held it up to the hood, you could see that crappy velcro right through the deflector, so i took it back and ordered a different one.

I think that the next one has some screws or something holding in, but I am not sure, I have to go pick it up.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Yea there are 4 velcro things but u can only see them when u take the thing off and they are sticking on the front of the hood. Oh well its not my vehicle i just drive it so i guess i can live with it ill tell u one thing i have learned something and thats not to get one of those stupid things.

  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
attatch under the hood and "float"...while touching nothing at all...and require no velcro or pads on the hood.
