Meh, those are inoffsensive. Textbook Toyota.

Isn't that the european Avensis? If so it has a lot in common with the Scion tC.

You can't be over 5'9" or you'll get bugs in your eyes.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
No matter...only a blind man would buy that! :D
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,409
But they aren't bought for practical reasons, they are bought for image and ego. It's like an H2 for women.

I don't think the new little Lexus is an Avensis, but it shares some styling themes = Toyota bland.

    I'm undecided on this one.

I like the proportions, but I wonder if it's overdone, especially the LED running lights.

It looks like a diamond-encrusted pair of glasses. Tough to know when you've gone too far. Of course BMW has those halos.

Not sure what model it was, but I saw a TL with a darker grille, not sure if it was body color or gunmetal (the car was a dark silver metallic, so it blended in).

Looked SOOOOO much better than the toothy chrome grille on the regular ones.

Saw one of these with a revised set of taillights. My guess is I saw my first 2010 model 3 series.

I didn't like it - odd shapes to the taillights. They updated what didn't need updating.

Every few days an older guy in a late model Quattroporte drives up my street. This thing has some kind of custom exhaust - I can hear it coming from 2 or 3 blocks away. Every time I hear it I expect to see a car go past at about 100mph - but he's just cruising along at 30mph or so. I don't know if that would get annoying or not.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Speaking of Quattroporte, I was watching the Running Man not long ago on DVD and apparently in the future (in about 7-10 years), rich tv stars will drive limo versions of old Quattroportes:

LOL...that thing makes me laugh. Something an oil-rich 80s Sheikh would ride in.

It certainly isn't on the road today.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
That's gotta be a one off, and you're right, it's probably abandoned somewhere in an LA backyard or garage.

Would have been a good Cash for Clunkers candidate. I am surprised Maserati hasn't offered to buy back all 80s models simply to destroy the evidence.

Today, I saw what I am pretty sure was a CL65 AMG rather than a CL63, which I see now and then. The trim and wheels seemed a little different. What a big sexy tank...grille and headlights seem a little odd to me sometimes, but I wouldn't kick it out of my garage.

    Also saw an X6, white.

Love the CL, very menacing. Gobs of class. :shades:
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw not one but two of these driving home yesterday.

Then I saw a Maserati coupe. Boy have they come a long way since the 80s.

Coming in this morning saw yet another new Prius. They're all over the place here in DC.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
in the news. Someone here crashed a new GT-R by driving it into a bank. What a waste. I have a feeling it was a young spoiled kid (we have many of them in Vancouver).

Reminds me we saw one last weeked. My wife saw it and loved it. She wasn't surprised when I told her what it cost.

Forgot to post when this happend, but last week when I was at a Nissan dealer, they had one on the floor. While waiting on my salesperson, I checked it out pretty thoroughly, sat in it, etc. I thought everything about it was impressive... except they forgot one VERY important detail. A telescoping steering wheel. Call me crazy, but I think that's unacceptable in a car with that pricetag, especially since it means I can't drive one comfortably!

Yeah, there's a certain demographic in those parts...only place I have seen teenagers in late model Ferraris
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
They're called I think "satellite kids" Parents send them gobs of money from overseas, and they spend them on condos and fancy cars.

Most are spoiled, some are actually hard workers and smart students.

I've heard a term like that, yeah. One of my roomates at school was like that...not insane wealth, but his parents had enough to send him to a foreign university and pay for everything. He eventually wanted to drive (terribly, might I add, took him 3 tests to get his license, the first of which he failed hilariously) and have a car, so his dad simply wrote him a check - and he bought a loaded new Accord V6. He actually had me with him, to make sure nobody took advantage of him...but I will admit I didn't negotiate very hard :shades: He was a decent student and a nice guy though, not like some of the jerks. Exceptions to every rule.

Actually now that I remember it, he was afraid to drive that car when he took delivery - so he had me drive him around in it for a few days. Pretty funny.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
One guy that worked with us was telling me of his "friends" that livged in the same building as him. One has a new GT-R, and a CL63 AMG, and another onee just got an Audi R8, and another got something else.

I see kids driving in Aston Martins around here too.

Yeah, that is something I have noticed in that area for awhile. I remember maybe 10 years ago walking on Burrard and seeing a kid in a F355 Spider who was doing a laughable job operating the transmission. I rarely see such shenanigans with young people in my neighborhood...at most a kid dorking around in mommy's Range Rover or daddy's high end Porsche. Cops around here are usually strict, so they don't flaunt speed too much.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
I tried to sell a SC range Rover sport to a kid like that from Turkey.

Truly insane money but a decent enough kid. Was trying to trade in a beat 335i hard top vert that was probably the second or third sold in the state. He had managed to do a number on the paint in 8,000 miles though.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Most of the satellite kids here are from Hong Kong and China.

When I worked at my old Honda dealer, there was a lot boy working at another dealer across the street for $8/hour, but he was driving a brand new black Land Rover Sport, right when they just came out. Crazy.

My old roomate was from Taiwan. He said his father drove a big old MB, a very unusual car there. He didn't know what it was...so I gave him a book and had him point it out. He was sure it was a W126. Those have to be uncommon there...although many were sold in HK. He'd sometimes go with me out in the fintail...he got a kick out of something so old, and maybe it gave him a little feeling of home, too.

I remember he also said Ford Taurus and Nissan Altimas were considered to be high class cars there.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,409
Yeah, those might not be the best people to buy used cars from. As many would say, people who don't buy their own things don't take care of them.

I remember the guy I knew would see me using a squeegee to dry the old non-clearcoat paint on the fintail - so the first time his new car got wet, he did the same thing. Put a big scratch right down the hood. He took it back and begged the dealer to buff it out, which they did.

saw my first 'on the road' Ford GT. White with blue stripes.
then in the parking lot at Lowes, a new Camaro, a new Challenger r/t, a Charger r/t, and a Mustang GT500.
it's October in New England and I am in the home improvement store parking lot.
    felt weird.

Saw one of those new retractable roof Ferraris this morning...loafing along a suburban arterial at maybe 10 under the limit, older driver. What's the point?

    Web site not available?

I'm worried about the company already.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
The website is not working and I think this is the wrong thread for it anyways.

If you guys want some exposure you should contact Edmunds and either get them to review and test drive your vehicle, or put in some paid ads ;)

    For $14k - $15k I'd rather buy:

A Kia Forte, Rio, or Soul and have a 10 year warranty
    A Hyundai Accent or Elantra
A base Ford Focus or Nissan Versa
    A Dodge Caliber
    or even a Chevy Aveo
    A Smart car.

All of the above come from an established manufacturer, with some sort of a decent warranty, and most important, they look like normal vehicles with 4 wheels. Plus I'd feel much safer in the above than in a 3 wheel golf cart thingy. Even the smart car is priced less, offers decent fuel economy, and was engineered by Mercedes.

Maybe your product would do better if it's priced at the $7k-$8k mark.

PS: you spelled Seabring wrong. It should be Sebring.

    Runs on spam?

Seems like one or two show up around the forums almost every day.

Amazingly, this one logged in from NA and not from India or China or the Philippines. So maybe they'll actually get their act together and figure out how to get some exposure without irritating people trying to read a forum discussion.

    Good catch, steve.

I must have seen half a dozen new Prius yesterday.

In this political town, no surprise, I guess.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
My first one on the street. It was dark blue or black with a silver colored hood. Not bad looking car.

Saw one sitting at a dealership a couple of weeks back, but today was the first "in the wild." It was badged as a ZipCar.

I've seen a few, maybe half dozen or so.

So not uncommon but not nearly as prevalent as the Prius is around here.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
My mom got one as a loaner when her Civic was in an accident.

Neat lil car. She fell in love with it though. The pricing is decent too. Insights and Priuses are not just for techno geeks or environmentalists anymore.

Oh yeah, when I was having the bumper scratch damage estimated, there were 2 brand new S6s at the shop, waiting to have some light cosmetic shipping damage touched up. One would never know what they were without the badging.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    I prefer the CR-Z.

With two seats and less weight, it could actually be fun.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,409
Today I saw Camaro x2, Genesis x2, and a loaded new E350 driven by a man who looked old enough to have been middle aged when my fintail was new. I say this because I was driving the fintail, and I pulled up beside him at a gas station. He looked at me like I was stepping out of a spaceship :shades: ....it was cool to see 50 years of progress next to each other.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
That's funny. And here he thought he'd be youthful by buying a new E class, and then he sees a youth driving something that's almost half a century old.

    2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, new may be youthful, but I doubt the median age for an E class owner is any lower than 50 plus.

Of course to someone that old, 50 may seem "youthful". :D
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,409
I'm no youth anymore lol ...but yeah, this guy was probably in his late 70s at the youngest. Although I have to say, if I am that old and driving that car, I'd be pretty happy.

His wife did look a good 20 years younger...but it was probably his daughter :shades:
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587

Probably was his wife. Hasn't driving a Mercedes taught you anything?
