O how I love Chevrolet dealers.....the one I bought the visors from said this morning that the only way to get the new Suburban visors are w/lights. The dealer I bought the truck from said that you can get them w/o lights for $63.75 a piece in graphite or pewter only. Ummm, I have the lighted ones in med gray (same as my interior). Yet, last night when I drove to the dealer I bought them from (real close to me) there was a Indigo blue with med gray interior w/o lights!! I'm confused. I'll try to sort this out and let everyone know part #'s, prices & colors.
I don't mind loud music at all....it's the manin reason for my lack of good hearing....it's just the C(rap) music I hate. Very few people have boom boom stereos and play real music.
Hendrix Zeppelin Creedence Aerosmith Zappa VH Cooper Stones Who ...and the likes
No teenie bopper here. Them young girls sure do love them boy bands. Its all hype right now though. In chicago we have a great radio station you would love tim. 97.9 the loop if your ever in these parts turn it on. Im not all into the older music but i can dig it (i said i can dig it haha) im more into more alternative stuff like limp bizkit, blink 182, foo fighters, etc and i listen to alot of country too.
Tim you left one band off your list. Metallica.
Lastly today ill probably get my TPW so stay tuned i know all of you are on the edge of your seats
Way to go with the tunes! Don't forget Clapton, Cream, Dylan etc...... the list goes on & on.
As I tell my daughter RAP is CRAP! She's like Ryan into some of the Alternative music but she likes some of Dad's stuff too! ie: "you listen to Aerosmith Dad??????". "Duh, they were around before you were a twinkle in my eye my young one"
Yeah I Like Clapton/Met/Dylan/Cream too....but I can't list them all!
Some alternative is OK....Like some Nirvana. White Zombie and Older Ministry are OK. Heavy Industrial Like KMFDM is cool.....But overall the Majority is good old rock and roll!
The Ramones...Cheap trick...SRV...Nugent...the list goes on and on.....
limp bizkit, blink 182, foo fighters, etc ....It's like Eddie Van Halen (The king BTW) said:
"It's not that they are bad...they just haven't learned to play their instruments good enough yet....like as good as Clapton"
I was going through the owner's manual while rotating tires and found out that the light duty standard transmission is filled with synthetic fluid. It said to change it every 150K miles. Does this sound right, 150K between changes sounds too long for me, even if it's synthetic? What do you all think or is it a typo? I am used to changing the fluid every 30K for regular fluid.
I ordered the kit for the AC filter and although it is called a kit it is only made up of two filters. As described before for the BASE truck it only takes removing a bracket held by one screw and pulling both air filters. The material that makes up the filters is so fine (for pollen, etc) that vacuuming will not clean them. The kit was at $26 plus change.
Ryan is right about 97.9. That is the station I listen to the most, and my musical tastes are very much like yours. My first song played in the Silverado was "Who do you Love" by Thorogood and the Destroyers.
havent decided yet. Top of my list is Tim mcgraws renegade cause it says get in my chevy with the big back seat or something like that or possibly metallicas fuel.
Hey on tow haul mode does it owrk good without trailering going uphill? Just wondering the road i take to work has a few steep uphills and my S-10 doggs it im sure a new one will have no problemo just wondering if the tow haul helps even wothput trailering
Sorry but i think q101 and 101.9 are better. 97.9 is good but cant listen to it all the time you know what i mean. Almost forgot gotta throw in us99 too
lt5.3, have you noticed any "toe-in" when you adjusted the t-bars? and did you notice how much thread you have left to go? just curious. let me know if you can. looks much better this way!!!!!!! dont you agree?
I have plenty of thread yet to go--do not know off hand exactly how much--do not notice any difference in Toe--no pull to either side--I agree looks a lot better!! It is cool how much 5 turns of a wrench can do!
HERE ARE SOME PICS OF MY TRUCK AND MY 98 I TRADED IN FOR THE 99!!
http://www.picturetrail.com Easy FREE link to posting pics. Just follow the instructions & Bingo, at least that's what my daughter says, I was a little baffled with how she whipped around on the pages to set it up. It sucks to be outdone by your daughter on a computer. The younger generation, our next leaders!
got my airaid off the edmunds site. If you go into the review about the silverado it lists to performance companies at the bottom (I forget who they are), checked both out and ordered from the cheapest. Think it was like $270?? Can't remember. The MAF sensor was $299 from rv performance website (best deal around). Filter was pretty easy - noticed some difference, not a whole lot. Seems to have a throatier growl to it and it seems to rev. a little faster. Probably good for 5-10 horse. Good luck with yours...
about something that really bugs you now.....but never did before??
I picked up a load of drywall today and pumped up the rear tires to 80PSI before getting the load. 80 in the rear is what is called for for Max.load...although 40 sheets of drywall maybe not even be half...or maybe 1/3?? (anybody know how much drywall weighs??). What I wondered was...when you apply pressure to something..aka load the bed...the tires PSI would increase with pressure..right?....So should the 80PSI at max load be WITH the load in it? Should a half load be set at 65-70PSI?
I always pumped them up from 40-80 when hauling loads and then back down...haven't had no problems...but now for some reason it won't get out of my head.
Camper owners...when you put the camper in....you adjust the load with it in??...or before..
GRRRRRRRRRR
Forgot to let the air out before I went home....puppys a bit harsh on bumps with 80PSI dry and a 2500 firm ride...
Has anyone had problems with their windshield pitting up? I havent had the problem on my 99 silverado, but my dad's new suburban's windshield is all speckled. It's only 3 months old, though he already put over 10,000 miles on it on a trip out west from PA. It looks like somebody took a sandblaster to it. The only thing i could figure was that he got it from a cinder truck.
Mike
Hey Ryan, don't tell anyone, I am only 19 going on 20 in May.
Weight of drywall. I get asked so much at work. Ill find out for ya and me both. SOmeone actually tried to tell me 2 1/2x4x8 sheets weighed 220 lbs 110lbs each yea right im guessing 50-60 pds a sheet. This is a rough estimate i know i can easily load 2 sheets myself into trucks. But i will find out tim. OH YEA whered u buy the drywall tim? If you say home depot u better quit posting in here then.
I traded my 99 GMC for a 2000 last week, It had been on order for 2 months. 4dr 4x4 slt 5.3L Hi cap air cleaner. I am trading the stock Goodyears out on Michelin 265x75R16 LTX AT OWL, saw them today after they came in they look great, worth the 500 to trade for, but anyways I stopped at autozone and they couldn't find the number in their computer or book for the KN im wondering if someone has that number or knows where to find it, any help would be appreciated.
Huntman
PS, the college grad rebate has been temporarily raised to 600 dollars and if you are in bussiness for yourself check on the commercial rebate (free toolbox or 300 dollar certificate to like home depot) I qualify because I farm.
So, where does Creed and Metallica rate? I grew up on the same bands you mentioned, but some of the new "alternative" rock like the two above are pretty noteworthy.
The manual in my wifes car says you NEVER have to change the fluid. I changed it at 50k....IT WAS BLACK, and did not smell right. I can only get 4 quarts out when I change it, so I do it every other oil change, cheap insurance. I think they tell you not to change it so you need a new trany at about 125k.
I ordered the K&N filter last week from TruckPerformance.com. I wasn't thinking when I ordered it that there might be a difference for normal vs. High Capacity air filter. To say the least I called TruckPerformance yesterday and they told me that the same K&N filter replaces either factory filter. Doesn't seem right, but since I haven't looked at the high capacity filter under the hood, I don't know if it is strictly a different filter or also a different enclosure. If anyone knows I'd appreciate the information, otherwise, I'll know when the truck arrives. I don't have a part number because at their web site, you select vehicle, then engine and it only presents you with the part that fits, never giving you a part number.
Also I ordered a Hypertech III as well. Best price I found was $299 at their site. It does appear to be different from the 1999 model. Different part number I'm told and it didn't arrive with my order, backordered I assume.
WOW, does that picture make a statement or what !!! Look out Ford Super Duty.
Back to music, Metallic, Filter & NIN. Now that music! Don't get me wrong, I like some old stuff (like the Doors) but most of the older music has been played to death by radio!
Best radio station in the country #1 KXTE X107.5, X-Treme Radio rocks out of Pahrump, Nevada. There is nothing better then (like ryan said) hearing Mettallic's - Fuel, come on the radio as you are driving at night & you can see Vegas in the distance! rcoos
Each sheet is 60lbs for a 4'x8'x1/2". They come in sets of two so its 120lbs. I have a 1/2 ton silverado and loaded it with 22 sheets of dry wall, 60 2x4 and some other odds and ends. The truck just leveled out, no spring sag. And guess what, the headlights did not point at the tree tops and the frame did not bend (for all those rumor believers). I would not of put another sheet in the bed though. However the truck had no problem at all. The tires on the other hand were a little squashed but were over their weight limit.
Tim what about Stevie Ray Vaughn. Problably the best guitarist that ever lived.
Thanks for your 17 March post re. the whining (I described it as a whistle) noise associated with ring and pinion problems. The GM technician had cited this earlier as a possible cause, and a copy of your post prompted the dealer to order the gears and associated bearings and bushings. I'll let you know next week if this is the fix.
I mentioned the Met...they rank high. Creed was cool when I saw them open for Van Halen a while back...I haven't bought any of their stuff yet though..
Jaijay,
I did mention SRV...look again. So it weighs 60 a sheet?..(who told you?)..I was going to say 30..but when two guys move it...I guess it would feel like 30. I had 2400lbs. then I guess...and the 2500 barely even drove any different. It did ride noticeably smoother though...
Ryan, 220 lbs...I don't think so. 60 even sounds high?...I know the price was high! Last time I bought drywall....about 5 years ago..$4.20 a sheet...last night it was $7.65 at.......well Ryan.....I guess I can't post here no more acording to you....
I had wondered how many sheets I'd get in the truck space wise so I measured the depth and it was about 20 inches...so 40 right?
34 was looking like we bought too much?.....36 and the top was getting close....38 was just over the top...and the last 2 were actually above the rail..although they didn't move at all. If I had to stop real quick...the rear window might have been toast though...
That's with a drop in liner with the traditional grooves. So maybe with no liner or a spray in (same thing as no liner)...you'd fit 40 sheets under the rail?
Tundra owners with the low bed height fit about 10 sheets. At the Max.payload also.
I paid $6.89 a sheet 2 wks ago plus my 10% employee discount. That discount works real nice. Got me a nice dewalt drill for $80 cheaper than cost when they had a 28% off bag sale plus my 10% discount. What kind of project are you doing? Drwall cost $4 something a sheet when i started working at menards 2 yrs ago and it has shot up to as high as $9.29 a sheet (1/2x4x8) because of hurricanes. They also limited a sale to 50 sheets a customer a day. People were shipping it to hurricane stricken areas and making big $$$. Also i didnt say 2 sheets weighed 220 lbs a customer tried to tell me that. I would put my life on it that each sheet weighs 60 pds.
This is the music and drywall chat now huh??? haha
Ryan
Tim if ur ever in northwest indiana and need some building materials come see me at MENARDS alright
Life's to short to worry about it, trust me, 80psi w/load 40 without is the practice I will follow as in past w/no premature tire wear. If you happen to toast your rear window I saved mine after slider was installed. Stiff Puppies @80psi dry, you betcha, you kinda like the feeling???? you are one sick puppy.LOL
MBR, your Dad wasn't by any chance tailgating a semi just after the roads were salt/sanded was he??????? That'll sandblast ya for sure.
Ryan, nothing but Home Depot & Lowe's by me, hope you don't have stock in Menard's!
No stock they dont have stock. Menards is only in the MIDWEST (wisconsins their base, michigan I know theres gotta be one by tim, illinois, indiana, iowa and a bunch more states i believe about 170 stores total. Home Depot is much bigger nationwide but around here they arent menards is the big thing. They are supposed to finally put up a lowes around here i like that store.
Hey just some feedback has anyone of you guys shopped at menards and what do you think of their wood? And other products? Im just curious i just want to see if its like it is here in other states. Thanks
I shop at Menards for everything EXCEPT lumber. They have the worst lumber around. Always warped, cracked, you name it, junk. Home Depot at least keeps all their lumber inside, and is better quality. I would like to see a Lowe's around here too.
Fluid is GM Syncromesh oil. Bought some to change mine, fluid appears to be a combo of conv oil, kerosine, and a zinc additive. Need a 17mm allen wrench to change, will probably do mine this summer. Going thru all the oils once after a year, will probably change 'em every 60k after that.
Oh ya, just back from a motorcycle race in Turkey TX. Averaged 9.2mpg over 1500 miles pulling a big ol' travel trailer with my bed fully loaded with dirtbikes and gas and toolboxes....
Got around 10.5 to 11 going with the wind, around 8 coming back. 4.8L 4.10 4x4 reg cab longbed 5 speed (ran in 4th most of the way).
Buddy's V10 SD CC gets about 1 to 1.5 mpg lower for same type trip but boy he does travel in comfort. Had severe ping on 87 octane at about 3200 rpm at WOT on way out, ran premium rest of the way, no ping. Engine very happy when running at max cruise control setting on the way back, no overheat or problems. Kinda wished I had the 8.1L option a few times as I got drug down from 75 to about 55 and 3rd gear on some windy uphills
Ryan, Me and a friend are doing 2 projects. He is finishing off his basement and last nights drywall was for him. I am doing a rec room over my garage. It's 30x40 and I will need about 150 sheets soon. All the interior walls both sides and outside walls as well as ceiling adds up quick. I'm not looking forward to hauling it man... I have a 6x6 opening in the front..like a traditional barn...and need to look into getting it delivered right in there with some kind of high-lo?? You know what they use?? the teo of us will be dead hauling them up stairs. I see a whole lotta 12 ouncers that day.
We don't have any menards here that I know of? Surrounded by Home Depots. Closest one to me is about 12 miles (2 miles for buddy). We just got sa Lowes about 20 miles away. been there once...don't know how Drywall compared? My local yard right around the corner is so so for price...but it's sheetrock brand...which is crumbly crap! Home depot has Goldbond....which to me is the best you can buy.
Ray,
I've been riding 40 in the rear dry...then pump to 80 before haul and the load up. Wonder what it's at when the load is actually in?? 100?...maybe I'll put 65 in...load up...then see what at?....or put at 80 dry..load...then adjust to 80 with load?>..
GRRRRRR
I got too much time here.
Sorry for all who wanna say.."let's talk about Silverados!!". This ain't the place....but it's where my online friends are.....so be it
Used to have HQ's and Builders squares...but they have gone under. Thank god! They never had squat in stock...and when they did...it was crap....and they went under??....geez....wonder why?
Tim I seen the weight posted at Home Depot. It was more of a warning for anyone thinking that they lite weight and can be tossed around easily. Somewhat of an awkward comparison to weights at the gym, I would have to say this weight is quite accurate.
They are clumbsy to handle however there is a tool that you can buy that has a handle on it and lips under the side of a sheet. When used you can grab a single sheet and carry under one arm.
There is yet another SRV cd release commning out soon that will contain many studio plays that have not been release yet.
Yea i agree on the wood thing. Alot of it is bad if not all at times. We have ours inside (outside pole under roof) kinda like in a big pole barns with both ends open so u can drive through. The wood quality is getting better let me tell you though. We have new green treated it has an added waterproofing that looks good actually. Wood is expensive too. For it being so expensive the quality should be better sometimes our standard boards look better than the quality or selesct.
and see what the weight is....just so I can sleep.
I was thinking about using 14 footers for the ceiling to avoid some seams....anybody use those before?....gotta be a bear to handle. I'd say renting a drywall jack is a must? How easy do 14 footers flex and break when carrying with 2 guys?
Wanna know how the Wright Brothers felt during their first flight??? Let the wind latch on to one of them there 14's with you and a bud on the end seeeeeeyaaaaaaaaaa. 3 people best when handling them & DEFINITELY get the drywall hoist for that job, been there done that don't wanna do it no more! A back belt would be advisable too! Covering 56 sq.ft area at a time does limit the amount of taping & seams though over the 4x8's (32 sq.ft).
Tom Petty rules! Ringo coming to town in April with his traveling All Star Band, may have to see that.
Grew up w/Beatles/Stones/Floyd so their always on my hit list. Saw Stones in 73/74? at Madison Square Garden, Jagger rode out on this Giant Penis & proceeded to drench the first 30 rows of pot heads w/whatever was spewing from that thing. Saw Pink Floyd in 74/94 awesome!
