If it seems that you are worried about, you may want to check out the blue board route and skim coat of plaster. Unless you are trained with handling plaster and applying it, you may want to hang the blue board and have someone else plaster it for you.
14 footer will be a bear to handle for two guys. You may want to get a pair of stilts for both you and the helper and lay the drywall on a table so that you can lift it up mid way instead of the from the floor. The stilts will allow you to touch the ceiling easily and hold the drywall in place with one hand. You could screw in your section with the other hand using a drill gun.
The only tunes to play in a real pickkup are those by Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Hank Williams, Hank Thompson, Ernst Tubb and Bob Wills. A little Willie and Waylon is also okay.
As far as Ryan's Menards comments, HOME DEPOT all the way!!!! After all they support Tony Stewart (of course, menards used to as well). But I have some friends that used to work for menards that got screwed by them. So for those two reasons, plus its only a couple miles away, I am partial to Home Depot.
I posted a while back about a diagram of lube points on the new silverados. Do the service manuals or Chilton's manuals have these?
Man, there is no telling what you can learn when you tune in here. I guess as long as you can put it in the back of the truck, its related right?
Drywall - There are 12' sheets too right? My wife and I did the whole inside of our triple garage with 10' ceiling last year with these. (only the walls though, the ceiling was already done for us). Those are tough enough for one and a half people to lug around...
When My dog runs away and my house burns down and my wife leaves me all in the same day....maybe I'll switch to Country?....but for now...I don't think so. I'm not that sad feeling yet?...They all sound the same anyway!
For 14's I'd have 2 guys fetching them from Home depot to the truck...3 guys up the stairs and at least 3 putting them up? I figure they would stick out 5.5 feet beyond the tailgate when down in a short box....think this is too much to flap?...I'd have about 16 -14's and 8-12's at once for extra weight.
For install I'd get a jack for sure....and I'm not sure about the plaster route. I'm not even going to mud this job.
Any fool can drywall....but it takes a much different kind of fool to mud and make it look good.
- Tim
( maybe we can re-name this the Drywall and Music topic??) For all who are pissed...it really upsets me that we have to do this to you....honestly...I am losing a lot of sleep here......I can't bear the thought of someone angry at me... LOL
Put an 8' piece plywood in bed first hanging over tailgate 3 or 4'to take some of the whip outta those 14's & it should be fine hauling the load. Let me know when you start the project I'll kick back with my buddy Sam Adams & think of ya. LOL
Joelis: "You ain't seen nothin yet ba ba ba baby" We run the gammit with conversations here , all in good fun of course! & occasionally stray off the subject matter.
Ryan, Saw my first 99 or 00 with DRL out today, how do you tell them apart anyway? Personally I may pull both bulbs outta there. When I want lights on I would like to do it myself rather then having it dictated to me. They say in the manual to NOT get used to NOT activating the headlamp system at night, well every time I turn around the computer is turning them on anyway, what ever happened to CHOICE!
who are interested, here is a pic of my 2-tone Sierra (including tailgate). If you aren't interested, keep your comments to yourself. At least I'm talking about TRUCKS! http://www.dialadr.com/GMCSierra.html
just fine with me...long as i can be a guest every now and again. first song in my new 'rado??? "like a rock" sorry, couldn't help it. had that cd for damn near 10 years now and just been dying to have a chevy to play it in. by the way, nobody's mentioned the dead yet. can't forget jerry and the boys. and no, i don't have flowers painted on my truck, and no, i don't own a vw vanagon. free love, now...hmmm that's an idea with some merit. as for the wood and drywall discussion, it's gonna be a year till i buy a house and join in on that one. but i did install my nerf bars myself! haha
The thing I hate about these is that they go on first thing while you are getting out of the garage in the morning, then take a couple of minutes before they figure out its light enough to turn off, which automatically then switches on the DRL's.
This usually happens just as you are driving past an oncoming car and they think you are an idiot for flashing your lights at them or something.
When I first got the truck, this happened as I went by a cop. He turned around and followed me for a while to see if I had a problem.
That is the way Chevy should have painted it! Ya just washed it I could tell but ya missed a spot. LOL Now you need to step up to an Extended Cab! It'll be an all around for family & work.
don't think K&N Gen. II is out for Silverado yet. I know you can get just the filter, but don't think you can get the whole system. That's why I got a Airaid - it uses a K&N filter anyway. Haven't got the MAF sensor yet and it's been about 2 weeks - getting a little pissed. Have to call and see whats up. I ordered a Hypertech also and it hasen't arrived yet either. I guess the are different for 2000 and they just started making them so it will probably take a while...
truck definitly accelerates faster. It has more high end power, but think it lost a little low end grunt. These 285's are a little harder to spin, but it's even harder now, but you can tell it can breath better and doesn't feel so bogged down when stomping on it going 55 MPH. Which is fine for me I more of a daily driver anyway. Not sure if this would be better for towing - would probably struggle more from the get go, but would have a easier time once up to speed...
I am taking my truck (00 z71 ext) in to get the idle checked. It just doesn't seem to be as smooth as it should be. Anybody else noticed this? It is off just enough to make you wonder. I'll post what the service dept thinks tomorrow.
The Hypertech PPIII is not available yet for the '00. Chevy changed the computer programming for '00 and Hypertech hasn't been able to figure out how to reprogram the existing HPPIII (? doesn't seem like it would be that hard??). They said it would be ready at the beginning of December!!!??? I ordered mine in January and everytime I call to see where it is, Truck Performance says "about a week out." Then I call Hypertech and they say "two to three weeks." This has been going on since January. I just called yesterday, and guess what "two to three weeks." They now say they have a part number though, but they haven't been released yet. I'm getting pretty frustrated over this one. Kyle
I used to work p/t for both HQ and Builders Square at different times. Builders Square was owned by K-Mart, then Builders Square bought out HQ. Now they both have bit the dust, if that sheds some light on why they went out of business. K-Mart should have stuck with discount store business.
Thanks for the info. I have heard that about the MAF's. I think I will wait for more data. I don't want to lose low end torque. I am also a little jittery about messing with the warranty, even though the Mag-Moss act protects against.
The truck looks good. The two tone looks great. Check out the wheel well trim on revitupfast's truck, it would go really well with the chrome door guard molding.
Yeah...teh big K did own Builders....and before HQ/Home depot and lowes craze...it was a descent store....when the others came to town...they did nothing to improve themselves or even keep up for that matter.....so down they went...HQ was a little better...but depot crushed their prices and service. HD also kills the little hole in the wall hardware stores....which bothers me in a way...cuz I try to help the little Joes....but some times you can't always stay with them...
Sorry, bad news. You have to get used to the lousy idle. This is probably the the worst thing about my truck. My dealer said it's normal and I wasn't surprised because I've read many complaints here. There used to be an entire topic on it but I think it got archived.
To you people across the country who live in "normal" areas suitable for human habitation, don't think I'm whining for no reason. I live in SiliconGridlock Valley and spend more time idling than driving! This is why I also have the pleasure of 10mpg typical mileage.
Hello all: I've considered changing tires... I hate those damn stock wilderness tires.. I would like bigger ones, but will 285's fit as far as clearance, and what about the speedometer and effect on gas mileage? (I have the 5.3L with 265's on it now) Thanks, mark
i also have that rough engine idle. dealear said the same thing, no misfires,is within specs, kinda bumed me out, i thought it would be an easy fix. but,all in all...... i still love my new truck. i"m also glad i got the 5.3
I know i know people have talked about it so much and i ignored it. On my dads blazer he got a GTS which sucked bad it had velcro that atttched to the hood. I am thinking of getting one more and more in your guys opinion that has them which one has the easiest maintanence (taking off to wash truck and such) and installs without many parts like velcro screws and whatnot. I know you guys have talked heavily on lund is there a part # or place where i could go to read about it or see it. Thanks
Gotta buy the accessories now while i can afford it today i have to go pick up half of my mudflaps they came in (front) so they dont sell them to anyone else.
I also have rough idle periodically. The tach does not even bump (idles at 500 rpm) when it occurs. I have the 5.3 liter engine. The service advisor states that unless the "service engine soon" light is on (i.e., codes stored) that there is nothing that they can do yet.... Hopefully a service bulletin is in the works.. This is still an awesome truck (2000 Silverado, LT, Z71, 4dr). Have added the Westin CPS (chrome plated stainless, part number 26-1680) nerf bars, installed them myself in approximately 45 minutes. My wife held up rear end until I got the front bolt started on the bar.
You kids are always in such a hurry ya just don't pay attention anymore, Lund Interceptor (part# ?????) specifically made for new Silverado body style, 5 nylon pugs go into 5 existing holes of hood, elongated slots on bug guard for adjustment & you do not need to remove to wash behind it, it has the clearance for a sponge.
You need a trip to the islands to learn how to "hang loose" and slow that pace down to absorb information. LOL
Also check out the Bugflector II. It also uses the 5 mounting holes under the hood and has plenty of clearance for washing. I paid $40 for mine at Pep Boys. Easy install and looks very nice.
Ryan, Go to www.truckautoaccessories.com/rd/ to get the right Lund part. They only handle new body style GM trucks so you can't go wrong. Everything Ray T. said is correct. No wind noise, can't even see it from the cab, so no reflections.
You really dont believe me? Whatever man i dont need to show u proof how bout this u buy me a scanner and ill post it. Or email me ur address and ill mail u the paperwork???? Ryanb0928@aol.com
Does that work?
Thanks for the bug deflector info.
The husky mudguards for the fender flares look very nice very strong molded plastic. Now i have to wait to install them YES TIM im doing it. Only a few holes to drill
Must have been a nasty comment to you or someone & got scribbled. They are watching ya know.......
Your gonna DRILL holes in your NEW truck??????? I found ways to mount those mud flaps I installed using the existing predrilled holes & no metal screws, plastic body panel one way push pins worked great, fit nice & snug in the holes. Your taking an engineering course right??? INNOVATION is the key!
Post a copy of your purchase order??? nah, wait till you get the truck then post that!!!!!! ey! We'll even accept one of it sitting on the dealers lot while you wait for those funds to reach maturity to pay for it! LOL
The mudflaps are made special for the fender flares. Ill have to see if i can get around drilling when i see the truck up close u know.
I dont have a purchase order just a new vehicle worksheet and the printout of options i ordered (if you call that a PO thats it then), and receipt of deposit.
The salesman is going to send me pics of my truck when it comes in because the dealership is 2 and a half hrs away and im not driving just to see it till i buy it so he agreed to send me pics. I dont care if you guys believe me or not it only matters to ME.
HI MERIDETH i know your out there just thought id say hi. Join in sometime.
Much easier huh? Nah im gonna go the first weekend of June pick the truck up and have everything i want on it already on. I wont have time to do it myself ill be working to finish paying for this thing and all the accessories im adding.
It does bother me people dont believe me yes you dont have to believe me thats cool i mean how do i know you have a truck Tim i know u have shown pics but that could be your neighbors. Or what about bluebeast? How do we all know he really has a truck? I believe all you guys and have never once doubted that. Im not some kid messing around on the computer. I hope i made a very clear and valid point.
Ryan, The site you pointed out for $53.95 states that some drilling is required. Someone previously posted that they had purchased a Lund Interceptor that also required drilling and they were going to send it back. There may be more than 1 part number for the Y2K Silverado. All I can state is that I got the more expensive unit and it did not need drilling. Just pop in the five nylon inserts in the square holes in the hood and go. So beware and LOL.
Ryan.....I believe you..(we all do)...so lighten up man....
(Hmmm..I better check to see if My neighbor will loan me his Black 2500 again today??)
You say all that matters is you...and then go off the deep end right after.
Chill bro!
....I don't know if you would make it in person at the truck bash man.....you might stomp away and go off the cliff and then Quad will be responsible.......(it was to be at Quads place...remember?)
i'm all up for a truck bash. don't have it too far from south cackalacki though, kay? my boss (read: wife) won't be happy if i'm driving 'cross the country to hang out with a bunch of guys who, as far as she's concerned, "have the same damn truck you do!" hehe. oh well.
ryan, if you have to drill to put on the mud flaps, you're doing more work than you would for the nerf bars. i know you want to have everything put on when you get it, and that's fine. just thought i'd mention it. like ray said, it means more when YOU do it. i give mine an extra bounce each time i get in, just to prove that i did a good job.
god, i love this truck. on another note that nobody has talked about for awhile. i'm finally starting to see some tundras on the road. found it so hard to believe they were the MT truck o' the year and yet weren't selling. think i've seen about one-one-hundredth the number of tundras 'round here as i have 'rados. and no, i haven't seen any 'rados with drl's out yet. wow, sorry for the long post. see ya'll tomorrow.
Whats this site about? hes got a truck...he doest... oh yea?well my dad can kick your dad.....etc etc. cmon, if he does or if he doesnt does it really matter? hes got some good information posted for all of yall and it really seems like there might be some real insecurities floating around in here. cant you all just get along?
Thanks for the idle info everyone. The dealer said "it is within specs." Go figure. The rough idle is not so bad, just a little annoying at times. Doesn't make me love my truck any less....
Ryan LUND part #18063 (still had the box). Best looking bug guard out there. Sorry Bugflector owners....
Just got my truck Tue. 1500 Ext.Cab 4X4, Runs great so far only have 60 miles though. I was wondering if anyone knows where to buy the best Tonneau cover.
I had about 6 people E-mail me telling they would come to it...
Me Ryan..(But had to wait until he was 21) Quad Roc Andy Jordan ....and I can't remember who else??
Great idea...but nobody wants to do it I guess.....would help if we all lived in one state I guess?
I'd drive several states over..
We will just have to settle for this forum I guess....although around a campfire in person..with kegs on hand and a blazing fire...and a whole lotta BS floating around sounds cool too.
ryanbab- What flaps are you getting and how much? I hope these aren't GM flaps that you need to drill to make fit.
I like the S.S. Putco flaps, but it looks like you need to cut the flaps to size, drill holes in them, and then bend them to fit the contour of the wheel well, all for about $90 a pair. What a deal!
Anybody find anything on Wheel Well liners yet?
rbrick- Thanks a lot! I didn't even notice the rough idle until you pointed it out. Its no biggie, but now I know its there. (Does it still itch under that cast?) Sounds like all the 5.3s are doing it.

Nice truck.....needs a Bowtie though...
