I bought gas today at a Union 76 station. $3.59 if you get a $5 car wash which I did. Both very good prices. Diesel was the same price. So I could have gone twice as far on the same amount. Costco is down to $3.63
Back in WA, paid something like $3.90 for Chevron premium today - not like where I was a week ago, but I paid $4.50 the last time I bought gas here, so that's nice.
Saw another Chevron that had both gas and diesel at $3.69.
Gasoline really isn't that cheap, we've just been deluded into thinking $3.50 or so is cheap. Anyway, I had both my 1989 Cadillac Brougham and 2007 Cadillac DTS Performance out this weekend on long trips. I took my Brougham to the Carlisle All-GM show and then to NE Pennsylvania and returned to Philly with my DTS. Sunoco Ultra was around $3.53 in various places. Heck, when my Brougham was new, premium gasoline was around $1.29 per gallon.
was for $3.52. Petrol prices went down as far as $3.23 around July 4th then the weekend after jumped 20 cents then jumped again & again to mimicking my last report. This drought must be causing the prices to increase like this (oops, did I give them an excuse for the rise in prices?).
Yep, I love how every upward twitch in oil prices hits the pumps right away, but for some reason, decrease in oil price always seem to take a wait and see attitude as far as adjusting prices downward
just filled up the Park Ave during lunch, at the local Shell in Seabrook MD. 93 octane's up to $3.949, and that's with the 5-cent off Thursdays special they run.
Last time it was filled up was on 7/26, and 93 was $3.689 then.
Ethanol will be driving gas up even more down the road. So will the gov relax the mandate - NO, they are increasing ethanol to 15%. People blame the farm lobby, but in most farm states the urban areas have more voters than the farm areas. Hmm, could ADM and the ethanol business be a large political contributors???
>People blame the farm lobby, but in most farm states the urban areas have more voters than the farm areas.
It's not the farmers and their lobby. Indeed, as you indicate the urban voters are greater in number than the farm/rural areas who might wish for using corn for gasoline instead of people food and livestock food. But it's the big business lobby in the farm businesses that are benefitting from the government subsidy to make ethanol, which may have expired. Andersons is a large grain trader in Toledo and they're involved in an ethanol plant in this area. The ADMs have more votes than the actual farm-oriented families who vote.
I bet the sun is going to come up today somewhere as well, and you know what that always does to oil prices
We jumped 13 cents here in central PA BEFORE the news of the refinery fire. Want to bet there was an INSTANT reaction at the pumps and I'm seeing even higher prices this morning??
Up to $4.29 for Chevron premium here now. I am so shocked that we have this new "crisis" just weeks after the previous crisis passed.
Have had to go to the south sound the past couple days, E55 is managing 22mpg in stop and go <40mph rush hour hell, not too bad for something of that size.
We seem to be matching your prices somewhat but our 87 octane is averaging $4.29, with premium averaging $4.45. My usual place is about a dime cheaper. AS with others, a lot of these price increases have been before each "crisis" occurred and the jumps were by 15 ~ 25 cents each time.
I'm just waiting for the next run-up, driven by the teleprompter-reading heads "$5 by Memorial Day"
We've recently seen the return of 10 cents more per gallon for credit. My former regular Sunoco has gone to this. I charge gas to get the cash back money. Darned if I'll pay that dime.
I can get $3.57 regular on the Parkway (Sunoco).

I fear when and what the next crisis will be, and how non-accidental we all know it will be. Pipeline issue, another down refinery, maybe a war by one our tail wags the dog "allies"...Prices aren't going to be lower again for long.
Speaking of discounts, there's a local station offering something like a 20 cent cash discount on either Saturday or Sunday. Seems steep.
Fezo, we have the same thing at some of the stations in the city, credit is higher than cash.
Fintail, with you. You almost hate to watch the world news because something is always going to cause it to go up. Read a few days ago about Mexico refining less...
They kept saying getting the Midwest refinery back online and a pipeline fixed would bring the prices down. A few days ago the local station dropped to $4.05, then this morning went down to $3.99.
We had stations down in the .29 and .39 range when they ran the prices up. We're still at .69. Guess all those exports are helping hold the prices up here.
Apparently getting that refinery back up caused petrol prices to go up as well. Add to that the Isaac & pre-Labor Day gouging and we're up to $4.45 in a couple spots in La Grange, $4.26 ~ $4.30 by me, higher in Chi-town.
And yet the refinery in Indy is causing havoc with a lot of motorists due to distributing bad gas.
I'm surprised our gas prices haven't bumped back up yet. Both cars are mostly tanked up but we're driving the week after Labor Day so I'm sure $4.50 is just around the corner for us.
Heh, prices jumped so much overnight here it made the radio. Haven't been out of the house, but the radio said Walmart jumped from $3.78 to $3.99 and the local stations nearer to me went to $4.19. Rumor is that the next town over is $4.29.
I live in the middle of the Mojave Desert, North of Los Angeles. It's a small town near a Military base, and the closest "big city" is Lancaster.
Since gas is the one thing you can't drive out of town to buy, every major station has the exact same price. Chevron and Shell are the Big Boys, and regular gas was $4.24 per gallon yesterday.
The mini-mart stations are running about $4.18 for regular.
If you rent a car and tell them prior to leaving that you want it filled when you return, their prices are actually lower than the gas stations!
Shot up to $4.09 briefly on news of Isaac's hitting the coast. Then $3.99 which sounded more politically tolerable.
Supposedly a pipeline from Louisiana supplies part of our fuels here in the lower Ohio region, just like during Katrina.
Today my wife texted to say price is "down" to $3.79 at one station. And this is Friday of Labor Day weekend. That's about what I would have expected for a rip price for the last high usage weekend.
I was driving to work this morning and notice a 14-16 cent jump in gas prices across the board at the Sunoco on Longshore and Rising Sun this morning! As Marvin Gaye once sang, "What's goin' on?"
The excuses given by the petroleum institute and companies are as humorous as some political campaign statements. I saw on the news last evening there are hurricanes in the Atlantic, so that must be reason against to raise prices?
Prices here range from $3.69 to $3.85 between Cincy and Dayton yesterday.
It's just capitalism and free markets and all that, not lies at all :shades: I paid $4.26 yesterday at a Chevron for premium, that price including a 16 cent cash discount.
Paid $4.09 in the UP, got a bargain around Traverse City at a Speedway at $3.79. Now in Port Huron where it looks like $4.09 is the going rate. The van did get a bit over 26 on the last tank so that helps. Diesel looks to be running around $4.25 in most places.
That is a real issue. The main reason so many small gas stations went out of business. The margins are VERY low on selling gas. They make a few cents on gas and a buck on a bottle of water.
This is my favorite - Kezbari said LukOil has said it charges more because it has a well-known brand name.
Well-known? And even if you accept that they are well known for all the wring reasons.
I'm not one that boycotts brands much. I can't boycott Saudi oil because it's in more or less everything. Chavez isn't a big enough threat to me to boycott Citgo but since we now have no Citgo stations that is moot.
That said I will not touch Lukoil unless I've uncharacteristically let the gas get so low that I need something in which case I'd get $5 worth and move in. Lukoil is totally tied into the Russian government - people who mean us genuine harm.

I had never heard of Lukoil. Here in CA we have a lot of Spirit Gas stations. Rumor has it they are Russian owned. Who knows? I have never bought gas from them as they charge 10 cents per gallon for using a CC. And they are higher priced to start with.
Comments
Still $3.69 here in the boonies of the UP.
I was able to fill up the van for ~$45 earlier today for $3.37 a gallon. Much nicer filling us up instead of the car.
Diesel was $3.71.
Saw another Chevron that had both gas and diesel at $3.69.
Glad I filled up a couple of days ago (saw the gas sign running errands on my bike).
Last time it was filled up was on 7/26, and 93 was $3.689 then.
