    There are a couple of pop-out clips in the roof line strip which accept the base of the cross bars. However, due to a design issue they are being redesigned and likely not available for 4-6 weeks.

    Russell Subaru are putting a 1 k markup on the Tribeca above MSRP!?!? I wanted to send them some business since they were the ones who let us test drive the show vehicle that was making the way around..but can't afford that!

    anyone else doing this?? Guess a prices paid buying exp. forum would be warranted now?
    :confuse:

    Yep, and I complained to the salesman too. I also said that FitzMall already had them selling a bit under $30K.

    Richard Lucas Chevrolet/Subaru in NJ is selling at 2K over MSRP! The salesman told me that Morristown, and Ramsey were also holding that price.

    Premier Subaru in Branford will order one up for you for $100 UNDER invoice! They want you to put a credit card deposit down to make sure that you really want the car, but, they do it - no problem.
  • mattamemattame Member Posts: 20
    yep, Bob, I voiced my regret as well stating Fitzgeralds pricing and it was as if the salesman knew what i was talking about. I've seen Fitzgerald's prices and they are definately competitive...but i really wanted to purchase from a dealer who could service the car and even offer perks such as loaners for service. Valley Motors said they were willing to deal and would earn our business if this proves to be true. The only hurdle we are facing now is whether or not financing is being offered on the tribeca. VM said yes (a week ago) and gave a good rate---but 2 other dealers have said no. Waiting to hear from VM as to whether or not this is so (financing for the tribeca). We will really need to rethink our buying decision if we cannot find the financing we need and after driving the Tribeca a couple of times...it would be hard to return the the less expensive awd vehicles that fit our family!. We could settle for a base 7 passenger...but i do so enjoy the bells and whistles and we typically keep our cars til they die...anyway...i ramble again... :blush:

    Would love to own this car....we'll see...

    Wow...good deal in Branford...nowhere near MD, though :(

    Amy, we bought both of our Subies at Fitzgeralds, and have had them serviced at Russell. We haven't had any problems.

    Thanks Bigelm. Will remind the dealers that you should get the referral fee's :-)

    Is it possible to remove the 2nd row middle seat completely? Need space for 4 to 5 people on a regular basis. Taking the seat out makes it easier to get to 3rd row which might come in handy on occasion when more sitting room is needed.

    $1-2000 in markups? That's nuts. It won't last.

    Is there such a word as Badwill, the opposite of Goodwill? I swear they lose sales by doing that crap. Honestly I would never, ever even visit that dealer again if I saw that. Never have returned to a dealer that I saw a markup on come to think of it.

    Do they really believe that increases profits?

    No finance deals - instead they have attractive lease deals. Why not lease and then decide at the end if you want to keep it? Fitz had lease prices for $320-380, $380 per month for DVD and Nav ain't bad.

    The 2nd row flips and folds forward but it won't come out without tools and a hassle.

  • saustinsaustin Member Posts: 68
    Hmmmm, the advertised prices off there web site are not nearly as close as $100 under dealer invoice. Here is the link.http://www.premiersubaru.com/

    Either way they are a super.

    Hi,
    Has anyone found a nice flat tray that could fit in the back of the 7 passenger to keep the carpet clean ?
    The beige carpet is gorgeous but can see a few grocery spills ahead.
    Thanks, Steve.

    Singer Subaru from NH is ready to give me Tribeca for $500 over invoice.
  • subienewbie2subienewbie2 Member Posts: 458
    Subaru has a cargo tray for the 5 & 7 passenger B9s.

    If you're intending to keep the 3rd seat folded get the tray for the 5 pass so it will cover the entire cargo floor.

    That is how I ordered mine
  • saustinsaustin Member Posts: 68
    Thanks for the info. On the Subaru web site there is only one tray listed but had no picture available. Did you get it yet ?
  • subienewbie2subienewbie2 Member Posts: 458
    Your welcome.

    The 7 pass tray cost 45 anf the larger 5 pass is 70

    My dealer said that it in the producyion schedule but we do noy have a Vin yet.

    I still have 2 more lease payments on my Q45, so I hope it doesn't show up too soon. The dealer has agreed to hold it until mid August, but I know me - if he called next week and said it was in I would be there in a flash to take delivery of my toy.

    So I hope SOA protects me from myself.

    I noticed one at the Ride and Drive. It was small, so that one was for the 7 seater, but if newbie was able to order the other one they must both exist.

    Infiniti Q, wow, people seem to be trading in much more expensive cars. Someone else traded in a Land Cruiser.

    What about other owners here, what did you trade in?

    7 Steps To A Perfect Luxury Car, well at least in my opinion and well maybe 8 steps if you prefer wood over plastic, but anyway here is my wish list for the 2007 model:

    1) Add telescopic steering. Needed badly for tall drivers with long legs.

    2) Rear hatch glass that opens. (what were they thinking?)

    3) Auto up/down driver controls for ALL windows.

    4) Auto dim mirror standard. hmmm . .

    5) Rear rubber bumper guard standard . . again hmm...

    6) Auto headlights on

    7) Leather (instead of rubber) center arm rest.

    I'm sure everyone will have a somewhat different list, but after a day with my limitred 7 with NAV/leather, this is my list. I still am glad I bought it and I understand that for the price they have to leave some stuff out, but I would have rather payed a bit more and had comparable options to most of the other so called "luxury" SUV's in the $30-45,000 price range. The final price would still be well below the competition. Anyone else care to give their list? 0h, did I mention roof rack cross bars not being standard equipment? ;)

    juice,

    Sounds like the tray should be perfect.

    Also, in exchange for rotating and balancing the tires on the 97 legacy we are keeping I dropped off the 93 legacy with 169000 miles (odometer stopped working 4 months ago) at our local garage. Great trade for me, not the dealer.

    Keep in mind this is the first model, the first year of availability. It's very likely Subaru will add new features and option packages as time goes on.

    Since 1998, the Forester has added:

    * cruise control (for '99)
    * power mirrors (for '00)
    * EBD (for '03)
    * bigger standard rims (16" vs. 15" in '03)
    * rear limited-slip differential (for '00)
    * moonroof option (for '01)
    * turbo engine option (for '03)
    * more torquey base engine (for '99)
    * more powerful base engine (for '06)
    * more powerful turbo engine (for '06)

    That list goes on, that's just a small sample of the enhancements they've done.

    So will the same happen to the Tribeca? I think that's likely.

    My thanks to you Bigelm. Your the one who turned me on to Town Motors in NJ. It had to be the nicest car purchase that I've ever had. From walk in to drive away, I couldn't have been there more than 15 min. all the paper work was done...sign the check and off. No drawn out sales pitch for extras. Negotiated the whole thing through e-mail. Right at invoice. Only add-ons...roof cross bars, cargo tray, rear bumper guard, free trailer hitch upgrade

    Yes there is a cargo tray and a cargo area cover. I bought the gray one for my 5 pass LTD.

    Anyone know how long it will take to get the LL BEan gift after delivery? I thought it would have come at delivery. I am now a little skeptical.

    I think this is an important review, if for no other reason than the insipid newspaper having incredible circulation, and tons of people will see this:

    Nothing new here, other than his dumb statement about exterior colors. Yes, I agree it's important, due to the paper's huge circulation.

    I suspect all the car rags will pretty much agree on the pluses and minuses, as they're all pretty obvious.

    Interesting review, first really quite negative one. Pricing leverage ?

    that's easy.
    USA today never likes subaru.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
    Negative? I dunno about that. I thought it to be pretty neutral, some good, some bad. His statement about color is flat out stupid.

    I was just quoted $1307 over invoice for a Ltd 5 Pass with no extra options. This price was "negotiated" through my credit union, which has always gotten us prices below invoice but I am told since this is a new vehicle, and popular, that that is the going price.

    I don't really buy it, especially since I live in Dallas, an area that is not big on Subarus. When we drove the vehicle on Monday, they had several on the lot, and they still have the one that I was interested in, a gold opal.

    I loved the vehicle but may go with a Highlander LTD (big sigh) or a Outback (fun, but a wagon), if I can't get a better deal. I was also told that the residual values for leasing are lower on Subbies as they are just not in great demand (again, more of a regional thing probably). There's one other dealer about 30 miles away and I may see what I can do with them. What do others think about paying above invoice for this vehicle?
  • grdh20grdh20 Member Posts: 46
    Anyone whao has already taken delivery notice if there is any sort of license tag frame or holder in the front? It looks like the tag just is supposed to hang off the car just by the top 2 screws?
  • cpp788xcpp788x Member Posts: 47
    Patience - this won't last long and your credit union's price can only go down.
  • saustinsaustin Member Posts: 68
    Last night the dealer (premier subaru) took the two plates we transferred and put them in their own frame. Minor advertising but it still looked good with the black front and rear bumper guards.
    Also, did your dealer put an advertising sticker on the back of the vehicle ?
    This would be just to the left of the rear license plate. Questions, 1. how do you feel about this ? 2. do you take it off (does it come off easily) ?
  • grdh20grdh20 Member Posts: 46
    If they pay me to leave the sticker on by the month I might consider it. In fact they would have to pay me to even use their logo license tag frames.

    just rip the sucker off. no biggie.
  • cpp788xcpp788x Member Posts: 47
    I usually order my cars so unless the dealer is willing to pay me advertizing fees I don't purchase a car with a dealer sticker. If I take one off the lot I rather not mess with the paint.

    Thank you for making my weekend rblnr !!! Super review. Funny how this reviewer and the USA today reviewer are so extremely different. Then again, should have suspected something was amiss when the later reviewer said little about how the B9 handles vs a Ford or Pilot. Never send him a mahogany vehicle to review !
  • teamjdteamjd Member Posts: 40
    I think you have to balance price vs aggravation. How far are you willing to drive. Would you consider having the cheaper car shipped to you? I'm a no frills kind of guy. That's why I drove 25 miles to NJ to buy my 5 pass LTD at invoice. Given the $2800+ difference you'd save looking else where...how long of a drive can you tolerate. Your still going to take it to the local dealer for service. Since the price was negotiated through your credit union, servicing/loyalty shouldn't be an issue. In my case, I gave the local dealer the option to match the price, and he refused.
    Just as a side note and a bit off topic, I sold my 01 Focus on ebay for $5400 to a guy in North Carolina. He flew up to NY today and is driving it back as we speak. He saved about $800, and I'd say his tolerance is high. LOL ;)

    As far as the front license plate holder, there is none, but look for it as an option next year. :P

    Oh, I disagree, Bob. This is the first review I have seen that really points out the major weakness of the Tribeca...size. It's a seven seater in name only, which I think is a huge mistake given that Subaru doesn't have a larger vehicle to fill the niche (think minivan). I currently own a 2001 Outback VDC and my biggest gripe is its lack of passenger seating. The Outback can really only seat four passengers comfortably. I was hoping that the Tribeca would be able to handle five, but I don't think that it does. The third row is damn tight and quite claustrophobic. So while I think that the Tribeca competes well against the Murano and to a lesser extent against the Lexus 330, I think that it comes up short against the Pilot and MDX. (I also suspect that Toyota will add a bit of space to the Highlander as well.)

    As to colors and style: I have shown photos of the Tribeca to everyone in my office and not a one has thought that it was attractive (I even got some of the folks at the local Subaru dealership to confess that they thought that it was ugly!). I don't like the exterior either, although I would hold my nose and still buy it if it had more passenger/cargo space. I also agree with Healy that certain colors make it look worse (or better); however, I think just the opposite...darker colors look better than lighter ones.

    My .$02...I'm just really disappointed that Subaru didn't build a vehicle with a more functional third row. THAT would have truly made the Tribeca stand out from the class.

    Bill
  • sweet_subiesweet_subie Member Posts: 1,394
    though i am an ardent sub fan, i must agree with you on that fact that Tribeca comes up short against MDX in terms of space and airy feel. I have driven my brotherinlaw's MDX many times.

    Tribeca's 3rd row & it does feel claustrophobic. My wife thinks our MPV has more friendly usable space & more useful 3rd row & cargo than Tribeca, so why pay 35+ ? our MPV has all the goodies DVD, power sliding doors, Stability control etc.
  • grdh20grdh20 Member Posts: 46
    The Lexus RX330, in my opinion, is one of the top 5 ugliest cars ever made, at least the rear end, but you see them all over the place. My point is that everyone will have and is entiltled to their own opinion. I like the way the B9 looks. At least it isn't boring. And as far as the 3rd row, who cares. Anyone really wanting a third row is going to get a minivan or something way bigger anyway. It's just a marketing ploy of very limited use if any. I don't think anyone will take the 3rd row seriously on this car, so it shouldn't be much of an issue.
