The part # for the Yakima fairing is 7047. It's the 38" one. I'm not sure if it's on the website yet, it's a new design and is much cheaper than the older one ($40). I've only driven it once since installed, but the only wind noise I've noticed was very slight and that was only when the moonroof was open. Love it!!!
This is my first time with a leather interior. Any recommendations, hints, or tips would be greatly appreciated. I know to use Lexol. There is a conditioner and cleaner. Where can you get the best price on Lexol? How often should I use it? On an outside wax, I use Maguires (spelling). Anyone think there is something better out there?
I picked up my ST yesterday and now have about 50 miles on it. I ordered on July 29 and when I received a call from the dealer on August 14 I was thinging he was going to give me a build date but was told the vehicle was built and Ford was about to ship it. The dealer told me he would have it on his lot on Sept 25th. On August my dealer called me again and said the delivery date was moved up to August 11th. On August 7th he called me again and said my ST was in and asked me when I wanted it. I picked it up Saturday 9th.
I was going to order the tonneau from Ford but on the day I ordered the ST I met another ST owner and after talking with him I didn't order it. Maybe that's why I got the ST so fast. I'm thinking about ordering an ARE tonneau top but I going to look around first. I also got the Firestone 16 inch tires and I was going to have Goodyears put on and just hold on to the Firestones but I think I'm going to hold off on that for a month or so to see what develops. The one think I couldn't find in the manual was how the radio controls worked from the rear console. It did tell how to work the climate control. Well, so far so good but it's only been a day. We'll see.
It really did exist. Ordered 5 June and picked up 8 Sept. I feel like i've just gotten over a 3 months pregnancy when it was delivered. Had everything on it including the 6cd player that was ordered. Everything is working fine so far and I think i'm going to love it,Ithink it will be a bundle of joy. Thanks everybody, Mel
Congratulations! I waited about 3 months too and it was worth every minute. I have had mine for about 4 months now and have thouroughly enjoyed it. The ST has surpassed all of my expectations. It is versitle, rugged, comfortable, convenient and fun to drive. Enjoy!
Did anyone receive their ST without the front license plate holder installed? My dealer says that they come installed from the factory? I don't want it installed because FL does not require a front license plate and I don't want the holes in the front bumper cover either. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!
Does the Steele Horse bed extender fit the mounting holes designed for the factory extender? The best price I have found is $169.97, can anyone beat that? Also, does the steel horse differ much from factory in design?
I concur with posting #337. I have the same white spotting problem on the black trim around all four doors windows. I have also tried to get it off to no avail. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to get it off. Is this caused by rain? or car washing?
Icalled ford accessories for bed mat and they wanted $56.00 for it. Called nearest local ford dealer and ordered it for $40.00. This site saved me $16.00. Thanks, Mel
For those of you with the A.R.E. tonneau - does the cargo cage work with it? Is it possible to extend the cage without taking either the cage or tonneau off? Also, how difficult is it to remove the tonneau once installed? Thank for the help!
The license plate holder is attached to the front bumper cover with 2 plastic fasteners. If you remove it you will have 2 holes about 1/4" in diameter in the front. I removed mine and the holes are not that noticeable.
Hi to everyone! I finally posted those JOB 2 Pioneer Subwoofer pics on the yahoo ST site. If you are members, you should be able to access the photo album. I think I put too many on there. Oh well, if it helps everyone, I don't mind doing it. The Bed Mat is $40. Some parts counters are selling them for $44 or more. If you just tell them $40, they should accept the price. Always negotiate. Mud Flaps are $20 a pair, but some dealers will come up with a $22 list price. Hey, I am cost conscious on everything, not to be confused with cheap! Take a look at the pics and bobkunkle, there for you too :-).
Question #2 for Ed is What is Ford going to do about the Cargo Divider that was supposed to be included with the Tonneau Cover. No one has noticed that the $590.00 list price originally included the divider. This great Tonneau offer isn't so great. They hit ya for list price AND they take parts out of the box.
I've seen multiple posts about broken plastic restraints securing the cage with the bed mat. Here's the fix, no doubt with the rubber feet on the cage their's the potential to brake the plastic pins so remove four torx t-25 screws and split the black molded bars and believe it or not you can remove the rubber feet. Reassemble , put the feet in your glovebox and everything fits perfect again. If you remove the mat put the rubber feet back on , its easy. P.S. you only need to remove the rubber from the inner two bars.
Does anyone have or has anyone seen one yet with the new 5 speed manual??..I'm seriously thinking about trading in my underpowered Nissan CC but having numerous problems with the Ford 5 speed automatic in the past I wanted to wait for the manual tranny. I understand that they will be manufacturing the manual starting this fall.. I'm going to the dealership today to see about ordering one.....anyone seen one yet??
I was about to purchase a Sportrac when the Explorer/Firestone problems appeared. I'm concerned that Ford dealers are overwhelmed by this problem and might not be able to provide the service one likes after buying a new car. Any experiences here?
I ordered a sport trac that was built on Aug 7. with a delivery date of aug. 21. I have still not received the vehicle. The dealer called ford and was told the vehicle was still at the factory and on hold for a quality problem, but was not allowed to say what the problem was. Has anyone heard of any QC problems preventing STs not being delivered for this reason.
Bed Cover: We bought my wife a white Sport Trac with the bed extender cage as standard. I immediately ordered an ARE LSI II tonneau cover in the same color. Took three weeks to come in and 2.5 hours to install. Won't be removing this puppy. Everything I expected. The bed hooks were never removed. And the cage will rotate out once the ARE is lifted. The cover is supposed to be able to support 300 pounds on its back. It sure looks sharp!!!
Gas mileage: I have checked the gas mileage on every tankful. The range has been from 16.4 to 17.1 mpg. That's about 60% highway cruising at 70 mph. Maybe when the truck has more miles the gas mileage will improve, but I thought that the 5-speed Auto would boost mileage. NOT !!! I have used Priceline.com gas card since the first day. At least I don't pay retail on gas.
Any failures/recalls? Nothing has failed in over 4000 miles. It has been a real gem. My wife likes to pull into her job. Everyone always asks about its unique styling and the kids love it. Highly recommended (just don't think about the gas).
Over 5000 miles, 4x4, 4.10 limited slip. No cover yet. 16.5 - 18 mpg in the city. 20.5 mpg on the highway. 17.5 mpg combined. Usually drive the posted speed and use speed control whenever I can. I check mileage every fill up. Great vehicle!!
Does this mean we will get the lower auto trans price because it looks like the manual trans won't be avail. for the ST for a while or not at all? By the way, informative site!!!
Back from trip to South Bend, IN and mpg was 19.5 for best tank on the way out and about 17.5 on the way back. There was a headwind on the way back and no wind on the way there. Both were while travelling about 75mph.
For those of you that matched (or nearly matched) the tint on your front windows to the tint in the rear, what worked? Was there a particular brand/shade used that could be posted?
I would expect a tint shop worth their beans should be able to take care of this, but the credo here is know-as-much-as-you-can before you go.
I honestly don't know how they are handly the trans options. I do know that the manual is only available in the stripped versions of the ST. The auto. must be chosen in order to get the Sport Package, Convience package, comfort packages, or sunroof. In order for the manual to be an option you must not get a comfort package. The console with the comfort packages doesn't work with the stick. The stripped ST comes with the low series(little baggie) console.
Does anyone know if all ST's (after 6-22)with the Comfort package get the console with rear controls for air conditioning and music? Originally you had to get the leather seats for this but now I think it comes either way.
Does this mean we will get the lower auto trans price because it looks like the manual trans won't be avail. for the ST for a while or not at all? By the way, informative site!!!
According to Ford marketing the Comfort package comes w/high series console and air/radio controls, but the cloth bucket seats still wont't have the lumbar option. They said eventually they will. This only makes sense to me, but I guess it won't be avail. until after I receive mine. Boo, hoo. Oh, well.
I have been told that my unit, (ordered 6/1, build 8/7, original delivery 8/25), is now on a rail car and that I should expect delivery this week. The reason for the delay was due to a "Quality Hold". This "Quality Hold" was to inspect the tires, (check air pressure, etc.) I don't understand why new tires need an inspection. I know my tires, (16"), have not been recalled. Perhaps we are getting Goodyear replacements anyway?
On 8/28 I was told that 7020 STs were on "Quality Hold". On 9/5 I was told the quantity was down to 3750, so progress was being made.
I was glad to hear that others have experienced the same problem. I was beginning to feel that my dealer was giving me a story.
You made an error in post #397. The convenience package can be had along with a manual transmission. That package includes remote keyless, door keypad, leather wrapped steering wheel, tilt wheel and cruise control.
You were correct about the other packages not being available with a manual.
I too am looking at bed extenders. I checked out the one on sale at Pep Boys for $149. The Pep Boys product did not look as high as the Ford offering (i.e. tubular bars were smaller, indicated that I would have to drill holes, & used a velcro strap to lock down instead of the "push" tabs on the Ford version).
Because of this I think I ordered Fords cargo cage for $354. I know it's twice the price, but I think it's twice the quality too.
Seen a couple of items regarding the A.R.E. tonneau cover. A few questions for those that own (or have researched).
1) Is it true that it uses existing holes in ST bed? 2) Has anyone tried to remove it? Can one person do it...easily? 3) Is it lockable? 4) What about rattles? Is it a good fit?
I agree with the assessment that the aftermarket cargo cages are not as good as the Ford ones. The push-in locks on the factory cargo cages are great..much more solid and convenient than the aftermarket velco tie downs.
I just bought my ST w/16" wheels, and got Goodyear tire in the deal. It worked out kind of funny because I initially test drove the ST w/Firestones, made an offer, but left because of some price issues.
I came back to discuss the deal, and they had replaced the Firestones w/Goodyear's. When I got to the point that I was ready to accept the deal, they came back and wanted to charge me an additional $115 back the Goodyear's. It took some arguing, but I got the Goodyear's at no additional charge. After talking to several of the sales folks, they seem to be getting allot of greef over the tires even though their 16's and they started getting Firestones "off their lot".
This might be something to think about when negostiating your deal!
Zack1000--- You are wrong in your correction. Option package #553(Leather/cruise/tilt/keyless entry) requires package #44D(Auto Trans). If you require proof, I have the job#2 paperwork scanned.
I read a couple of posts from owners experiencing spotty areas on the trim around the door windows. Check this out. If you look carefully you'll notice that the window areas are trimmed with a felt material. This material holds lint and almost anything else like a magnet. The more you wipe with a towel, paper napkins, sponge, etc., the worse it will get. It snags the fibers of whatever you are using and holds it there. How to get it clean (fibers off) is beyond me. Maybe someone else can help you all on that one. I noticed the felt two days ago. Fortunately, I use the man-made material chamois cloth and I don't have any spots or lent. The reason I noticed it was because I was attempting to get a finger print off the window and used windex with a paper towel and could feel the snag as I was wiping. Funny, I had never noticed the felt material while using a chamois and I don't have spots/lent. Maybe using a belcrow like material will attract it off. Good Luck and carefull when drying those windows. You are making it worse when using materials that felt holds on to.
I think what others are experiencing is brown speck on the outside of the molding, not lint or fuzz on the felt portion. What will remove these brown spots is beyond me--maybe some armor-all, etc.-- but as for removing the fuzz, use a wide, good quality masking tape to remove any fuzz from the molding. Works good on clothes too!!!
I'm in the process of determining what I want on my new ST. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the limited slip 4.10 over the limited slip 3.73? With the 4.10 will I gain quickness off the line but lose gas mileage? Any help you could give me I would greatly appreciate. Thanks... Ken
I have a white st and got 20% window tint. It matched back windows pretty good... maybe a slight bit lighter! Law in my state is 35%, so mine are darker than legal...
I just visited the parts dept at my local ford dealer, and discussed ordering the tonneau hard cover. They indicated that I should hold off ordering the cover since I just purchased my ST. They explained that they've heard that the company that makes these covers for ford is mailing out brochures (usually get 3-4 weeks after the purchase) where you can purchase a tonneau cover for around $600.
Has anyone received a brochure like this in the mail?
I've had my ST since 3/8/2000 and I have never recieved a brochure offering a $600 cover. Now I have recieved some brochures for accessories, but not many for the ST.
Tires: Now, I remember quite clearly a discussion that went on about the tires on the Sport Trac.
16" wheels were said to be the "AT" series, and 15" wheels were said to be the "HT" series.
Well, my ST arrived today so I went over to take a look at it and noticed that the 15" tires I have are the "AT" series. Kind of peculiar...
Tonneau: We've had a good amount of rain on and off the last two days in this region (Texas coast). I opened the Tonneau and saw that the bed of the ST was dry. I suppose this supports other reports that unless you squirt a hose up at the seals from the side water pretty much stays out. My first impression is that it appears to be pretty good quality.
Paint under the doors: It looks like all of the doors have the paint underneath.
Gas door: It doesn't rub, but how would I know if it has been fixed and would not rub eventually, as some have mentioned?
I pick it up tomorrow, so will get to check everything else out then.
Ok, there is still something wrong with my AC. I am running out of time to make my case as the cool months will be fast approaching. Today, while parked in the parking lot after the truck had been running for 35 minutes, the ac, on the max a/c setting, was not blowing ice cold air. This severly bothers me. I am in HOTLANTA. Last night on my way home from dinner, we got stuck in typical Atlanta traffic at 9:30pm. The ac kept cycling on and cycling off EVERY 2 SECONDS! ("click, then RPM would go down, click, then RPM would go down, etc.,etc.) That cannot be good for the system. Someone mentioned that the minimum idle should be 900 RPM on the ST. Mine stays right around 500 RPM. Do you think this may be the problem? When the RPM increases as I drive, it gets colder. But after its been running for 30 minutes the air should still stay ice cold if you are stationary in a parking lot. I am not happy with this AC at all. My previous Explorer had much better AC. Anything I should say specifically to the service department?

P.S. you only need to remove the rubber from the inner two bars.
My window sticker had Front License Plate Bracket listed under Optional Equipment as NO CHARGE.
Perhaps when you place the order for your ST you could specify that they omit that item.

www2.NADA.com lists the Cloth Comfort console as you mentioned:
"COMFORT GROUP -inc: cloth bucket seats w/ adjustable head restraints, 6-way pwr driver seat, overhead console w/outside temp/ compass, high series floor console w/rear climate/audio controls (REQ: 553 Convenience Group, 44D Auto Trans) Code: 60A"
NADA also has a great guide for option (particularly manual transmission)limitations. It also shows vehicle price totals on the fly.

If your compressor is clicking on and off every 2 seconds, something is not right. Take it in and ask the dealer.
