I would like to see three more inches of ground clearance, a diesel motor, and low range, and a real skid plate. Still, I can't wait to buy one of these babies.
*Hybrid turbo diesel (like future Subaru's) anyone? *Optional 3rd row seat *Folding flat 2nd row *OEM crossbars and body side moldings *Nicer interior door trim
I guess that's a possibility but I don't really see the point. Heating the mirrors evaporates water quicker, regardless of the ambient temperature.
Mitsubishi already tailors specs like stainless steel exhaust according to the region. Seems more likely that heated mirrors would only be for Northern areas, although I would still like to have them here in Cali.
I just was told by my dealer, that he can install these newly available Outlander options: side molding, parking sensors, rear view camera, wood trim, multi-color Xenon lighting, luggage hardware, bike attachments, etc Most of the stuff from this catalog: Mitsubishi Outlander catalog.
chelentano, please ask your dealer if those are OEM parts from the catalog. And if you can secure a list with parts number (if they are different for the US market). That would really help. TIA.
Well, it says on the 1st page: "Mitsu Motors Genuine Parts", but I'll ask next time. I've already requested pricing on parking senosrs and rear camera.
Japanese Mitsu site shows that parking sensors and rear camera are "Manufacturer options" (sometimes translated link does not load so you have to click twice: Mitsu Outlander Japan
Interesting, that side & curtain air bags are optional in Japan, but standard in US.
They (Mitsu) have to top the safety aspect of the vehicle if they want to maintain their market. Americans have different demands than asians. Ever wonder why a 3.0L petrol is not offered in Japan but standard in the US?
Obviosly americans care less about gasoline cost, but more about performance, at least for now. Americans have on average higher income and cheaper gas.
I don't know what is in the 08 model...but, I hope they get rid of the dash cup holder that my left knee keeps hitting when I have a can of soda in there. ..Other than that, the 07 4WD XLS I have is perfect except maybe for the dam red color in the radio lens that is hard to see in the daytime..
There are like 3 other cup holders in the front plus the bottle holder in the door pocket. I was at the Mitsu dealer today and saw some Outlanders with rims I hadn't seen before. Kind of like the aluminum 18"ers on the XLS but a little fancier. I don't know if the dealer changed them or if it's Mitsu's new design?
2012 Mustang Premium, 2013 Lincoln MKX Elite, 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander.
The noise is not a problem at all for me once the known wind noise issue was resolved. Compared to my Mazda3 it's like night and day. Compared to a Lexus or other luxury car, or some sedans, the Outlander may be noisier, but there is no point in doing such comparison.
Our first long trip on Outlander. Love the Nav. It pack the 9 CD into the Music Server!!! (For our 4 years old).
Everything is great. My biggest complain is still the gas tank. -- The cruising mile is 330 Miles. Just 30 miles more, We'd get from one Costco to the other for gas (Boise ID to Yakima,WA 367 Miles.) which would be 10 cent cheaper per Gal than any other gas station. With Kid on board, I got to stop and put 1G in just to make it since the "refuel" was screaming at me for 10 miles.
The minor annoyance is the The windshield spray is not good. It is no match for bugs dead bodies. (The water spray is too center compare to our 2003 Forester.) The wiper also make a noise when just simple spray of water. On the other had, the rear windshield water spray is like down pour and miss most of the rear window.
Everything is good and convenient. I love the car. Rear shock absober seems to be too soft. With 7 days camping gear on the truck section, the rear sink in lower than I expected.
Love the butterfly manual shifter. In "D" mode, I can shift to lower or higher gear as I wanted. Just watch out for don't mix manual shifting with Cruise. When in Manual mode, Cruise won't down shift. It seems to bail out when we hit a hill that in order to maintain the 75 mile, it need to down shift from Gear 6 to Gear 4. But since it is on the manual mode, instead of down shift when the speed drop to 60mph. It doesn't down shift, it just quit (Seriously, all the way drop from 60mph to 40mph.) Change to "D" then the cruise down shift as expected.
Other things I found. On the high way, 65mph and up, actually is not most fuel efficient at all. I typically only get 22-23 mpg. On the other hand, cruise on 35-55mph with non-stop, I am surprise to get 24-26 mpg inside the yellowstone NP. (I guess, this is because the current setting is aiming best at government mpg ideal testing environment 30-40 mph with no stop measurement.) On the heavy traffic/signal city drive, it down to 18-19 mpg.
Like other point out Map Data is kind of Old. It can't find the somewhat-new Costco address ( For gas and resting.) - I don't know how many of Costco are new in these three years.
I also like the ability to switch from 2WD to 4WD. Go through Yellowstone NP & Grand Tenton on 2WD without problem. One tiny gravel road went by easily on 4WD-Auto.
One final note, when I changed oil after the trip, I notice with V6 3.0 packed in the engine block, 2 pipes (I assume these are air condition pipes but I might be wrong) between the Cabin and engine without any cover to protect them. The only protection is the middle bin-bar. I am thinking about getting some rubber cover to protect the flying rocks from the ground. Without any protection, I'd not recommand anyone to go Off road with on the Outie unless you are willing to lost your AC in the middle of trip. (When we passed by south ID, the tempeture is 104-109F. I'd prefere to have AC :P )
Not 100% perfect. But all these are really minor issues. All the right things together, I love my Outie.
Like other point out Map Data is kind of Old. It can't find the somewhat-new Costco address ( For gas and resting.) - I don't know how many of Costco are new in these three years.
The Costco here in Boise moved about 4 or 5 years ago. It's now out by the Cracker Barrel and the old Costco is a Cabela's. So if your map data took you across the tracks towards the mall, it's a bit dated.
A proper 6 gear Manual (stick shift). I am surprised that nobody seems to want it. This is the only reason that I am holding back from buying the Outlander. Why are Manuals so hard to find in the US ???
solowalker -- those rims are enkei rims.. so told the dealership i went to. the sales person metioned that there is no charge to get those rims, just personal preference(ie. he would switch out those rims to the standard one as long as it's available)
1.The paddle shifters are just queer. 2.totally new interface on the NAV system to upgrade it more easily. 3. New OS on the NAV system, the music server is weak and clumsy. 4. Fix the mirrors to be quiet without having to stuff them w foam. 5. Quieter AC at idle. 6. Fix the acceleration lag. 7. 3rd row seat is a steaming pile. 8. Better AC for the rear seat. 9. Rear wiper spray nozzle is a joke. Single stream of water? 10. Body dings super easily, needs strips of some kind. 11. Change holder 12. Softer suspension
*auto on/off headlights *sunglass holder (econoboxes have them . . . come on Mitsu) *auto up/down window switches *chrome or silver painted door handles *higher quality interior materials (Mitsu has a padding on the doors and dashboard phobia) *scuff-proof door panels *HomeLink/auto-dimming rearview mirror *overall better quality control (lots of little defects just like my mom's old 1984 Olds Cutlass Supreme) *fix the odd drivetrain noises *a real horn . . . lose the moped horn *FIX THE FM RADIO RECEPTION PROBLEM (got muffled sound?) *3rd row seating should be optional *a cover for the exposed bolt holding down the driver's seat (cost cutting gone wild) *lumbar support *a/c controls that don't feel so toyish *Fire the cost cutters (along with the Nissan ones)
I'll cover the MMCS another time.
Overall, Mitsubishi has created a fun vehicle to own. It's a good product. If the Outlander is to be a GREAT product, Mitsubishi needs to focus on the little things that make a product stand out. Just my two cents.
I'd definitely agree on the auto headlights. Start the car at night, Your lights and dash lights are on, But you have to remember to turn on the tail lights.
Some of the interior bits are cheap (sun visor, door panels, etc.) but that doesn't bother me much. The climate controls do feel cheap.
Still love the drivetrain, handling etc.
2012 Mustang Premium, 2013 Lincoln MKX Elite, 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander.
I am also interested in parking sensors and auto-dimming mirror. Were you able to get them installed? Are they available in US? If not, any idea where to get them - even the non-mitsubishi parts.
I think a compass should be standard on any vehicle. I love everything about my LS 2007 model. It has some great features and I'm okay with any of the skimping that they've done, but I feel like the fabric it going to get so dirty. I'm in Arizona and didn't want leather, but a little design in the fabric would help to keep it from showing dirt. Also, on the LS it is weird to me that the top of the center console has fabric - seems like it is going to get so dirty. Other than that I am very pleased. I was looking for an SUV that gets decent gas milegage, isn't huge, and will last me 10 years.
I have an 07 XLS with Sun & Sound, Luxury and Navi Packages and I love the car overall. I do have a few things that annoy me and I'd like to see changed.
1. The option to have doors auto unlock when you are in range and auto lock when you are out of range, as sometimes I forget to lock the car. 2. I am 6'4" and the center arm rest is a good 6 inches away from my arm, to set my arm there feels so low and it is akward, I have no where comfortable to put my right arm. 3. With that being said, the entire center console is too low, like the cup holders, they are really far for me, I end up using the one on the left of the steering wheel because it is easier to use. 4. Daytime running light (with HID's) should turn on when car is placed in Drive, I dis-like having them on when I am sitting parked, because at night people always think I am leaving. 5. Option of backup camera, I would love to have this as a factory option, I am currently trying to find a cheap solution to add a camera to mine. 6. Average gas mileage system is annoying, it always gives me a low MPG because it resets itself a lot, and I even turned it to manual, and then it turned the auto reset back on by itself, kinda annoying. 7. As other people said, a smaller key fob (FAST KEY) would be nice, this one is pretty big and akward. 8. Climate Controls on steering wheel would be nice. 9. 3rd Row seat as an option on all trims, meaning not mandatory on XLS and optional on others. 10. I see it mentioned in the manual, but I don't know how to get it, a 110 volt plug inside the center console would be awesome, and maybe even another in the rear instead of the cigarette lighter one. 11. Better bluetooth system. Now maybe it is just my phone, but half the time my system does not find my phone, and then when it does, sometimes it freezes up when I try to call from the phonebook. 12. Any easy way (and free) to upgrade the navi system. 13. The ability for the music server to accept MP3 discs, I hate having to burn all of my music in regular CD format in order to get my music onto the server, it took me 7 discs to do what 1 MP3 disc could have. 14. More hooks to hang hangers from, more than the one on the drivers side.
Like I said, I love my Outlander overall, but doing a few of these things would make this car perfect!
I hooked up a rear view camera into my MMCS for less than $50, it comes on when I put it in reverse and has the alignment grid. The factory one costs $500 in Japan.
I agree with your wish list, except the console doesn't bother me. A little more deluxe interior would be nice, also, though it's comfortable and functional.
2012 Mustang Premium, 2013 Lincoln MKX Elite, 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander.
Better quality interior materials. Much of the door panels, and window pilliars are made of a hard, and hollow plastic, which causes a lot of creaks, and rattles over minor imperfections in the road. So better padding, and softer materials is something I would like to see.
Have the vehicle lock the doors automatically when driving a certain speed, or placed into drive. Why do they have the option to have all of the doors unlock when placed into park, but not lock when driving away is beyond me.
Fix the heater problems when vehicle is idling. The heater shouldn't go down in temperature when I'm at stop light, it should stay the same as if I were driving.
Give us the option to change the FAST key options with certain key presses, rather than have us go to the dealership.
Any car that stickers for more than $30,000 (XLS with all the toys) should have illuminated vanity mirrors.
Nicer and more scratch resistant interior plastic is sorely needed.
Move the emergency flasher switch so that it doesn't get activated when working the navigation/music server softkeys.
Lose the third row seat (or make it a dealer-installed option) in the XLS.
17" wheel option for the XLS (I live in pothole country; 18'' wheels with low-profile tires are a sure bet for a bent rim).
Better graphics for the information display would go a long way to improving its usefulness.
Upgrade the feel of the HVAC controls; right now they feel like they belong on a Chevy Aveo.
Move the seat-heat switches to where they are more accessible when wearing bulky winter coats.
Make an effective front stone guard avilable (just like on the Endeavor). The current ones don't work for us who live in states and provinces where they use real rocks as anti-skid treatment.
Offer a turbo-diesel motor and a real manual shift transmission. As nice as the 6-speed automatic is, a stick (with a clutch) would be a real fuel-saver.
The vehicle has a rock-solid feel, but it also has the weight of a rock. It needs to lose weight.
Mitsubishi is planning to equip UK Outlanders with the SST Twin Clutch transmission. A similar transmission was first fitted in the Evo X, and is also planned to be used in the upcoming Lancer Ralliart, both the sedan and hatch versions.
Besides the annoying mileage computer resetting itself the ability to actually read the radio in daylight would be good (duh!!!) :confuse: . Also the ability to zero your next oil change (keeps jumping up in miles, not reset) Maybe this and the mileage computer could be a re-flash available for current owners. The radio dial I realize is hopeless for a current model fix.
Comments
I would rather vote for hybrid. Better milage then diesel and $2600 tax credit!

Interesting, that side & curtain air bags are optional in Japan, but standard in US.
The wind noise by the mirror was bothering me, though, thats why I stopped at the dealer. They said no one else had complained about it!
He did find the service bulletin and they are going to fix it Thursday.
Perhaps from these GY Eagles.

The Bluetooth problem must be your phone, mine works flawlessly with my Razr.
- a higher center console (i'm only 5' 4" and it's pretty much useless)
- a slightly larger gas tank (just 2 or 3 more gallons would do)
- AN AVG MPG THAT DOESN'T RESET AFTER 4 HOURS OF BEING IDLE
(this one really, really bugs me (pardon the pun)) wish they would fix this!
