Ultimate Electronics sells the Audiovox VOD806 for $1259 after their 10% discount. Add in a couple of wireless headphones + installation and the total cost is approx $1700. Nice system - the DVD Player is built into the unit so you don't have to figure out where to put the DVD player. It has an 8" screen, FM Modulator so you can run it through your stereo, a TV Tuner, ceiling lights, and plays MP3's. Comes with a 3yr parts and labor warranty.
I purchased my Sequoia w/o the sunroof, so I have the notorious 5 sunglass compartment system. The installation guy at Ultimate said that he will cut off the back two larger compartments and place a cap on the end leaving me with a 3 sunglass compartment system. The unit will be installed right behind the sunglass compartments so it viewed perfectly from the 2nd row. (the screen will be located in front of where the ceiling lights are currently located) I'm getting it installed on Tuesday so I will let you know how it goes.

I recently installed a mobile1 dvd/mp3 system. It consist of two 5.6" LCD screens behind the driver and passenger headrest. It has two wireless headphones and you can listen to it through the JBL system. I paid $1,700.00, and it works great!

I would like to special order an SR-5, primarily to avoid all the expensive options normally added by the dealers.

Would the price improve if I wait a bit for a 2002? If I order a 2003 I presume it will be more. I don't know the timing of all this. What is the probable cutoff date for ordering a 2002?

    Advice will be appreciated.
  • sbell4sbell4 Member Posts: 446
cost info has not been released but it probably will not be more then $200 - $400 (if even that). If you want to specail order you will probably need to wait for the 2003 anyway. From the time a Sequoia is built it should take about two weeks for it to arrive at the dealer. I do not know for sure but I expect any 2002 special order for a domestic built Toyota will be rejected and placed for a 2003. I know it is past the cut date for over seas production special orders.

Has anyone tried to use a broker? What was the experience and what did it cost.

    Thanks

I recently backed into a parked car on my driveway after looking at the car just 30 seconds before putting mine into reverse. I replaced the rear bumper and was surprised at how inexpensive the bumper cover is. Just $249--unpainted of course--from the Toyota dealer. Add $200 for painting and $70 for installation, that's it. The bumper can be painted off the vehicle and installed at your convenience. .

Does anyone know of any seat covers available for the 3rd row seat??? (for a dog)

Thanks to everyone for the great "tire advice." I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reputable place to have my tires installed. This may sound like a strange question but I have had my share of bad installs before. Thanks again in advance for any suggestions.

We recently drove to Fla and back from the Chicago area, about 2500 miles total. The Truck behaved very well, no problems. We averaged about 70-75 MPH and got just under 19MPG. We were using Premium Gas, and I have Synthetic oil in it. There were a couple of high reving upshifts with the cruise control on, engine popped up to 4K RPM or so. but they were big hills and I should have had the cruise off.
Only complaint is the suspension is a little rough on certain surfaces. I-24 through So. Ill and Ky. is all cement and not exactly smooth. After an hour or so of bumping along I was almost sore. Still it was almost surprisingly good riding on "smooth" roads. As for the DVD system, I purchased an Audivox DVD in a bag with 5.6" LCD screen for about $350. It sits on the seat between the kids and they can plug in headphones. A seat belt can be used to keep it in place. I kinda like the idea of being able to remove the unit to use in other vehicles, in hotels or at home. Besides I'm cheap and 2-3K for an installed system makes me shudder. Similarly to how the truck was on I-24.

Go to an auto upholstery shop and get them to make you some slipcovers out of whatever material you want - like terrycloth. This way, you can get pink or purple.

I have owned my truck for six months now and I feel that it is time for the first waxing. Does anyone have any advice on waxing a relatively new paint job? (type, method, professional services, etc.) Thanks in advance for any info.

I just got my Sequoia detalied. I am no expert on this, but from the research I have done, the products Zymol and Zaino seem to be quite respectable...definitely better than things like Turtle Wax, etc.

I took mine to a professional detailer (not a car wash detailer or someone who claims to be a detailer and waxes your car in 90 minutes).

They used what is called a clay bar, in addition to using P21s products and Zymol products. The whole process took about 10 hours. That is what they consider "detailing", and the reccomend gtting it done about 1-2 times per year.

During the meantime, they reccomend waxing the war every 2-3 months, and washing it once every 10 days.

Also, it was all hand done...no high speed equipment. This helps to ensure that there are no swirl marks, etc.

    Hope this helps

I have been using the Zymol on my seq. It goes on very easy, you can do the whole car in an hour. It gives a very good shine, but I have found that it does not last very long, maby two months. There is a whole site under maint. & repair on edmunds that is devoted to wax and another devoted to Zaino products. I have ordered Zaino and will try it out on my Echo and see if it is worth all the work on the seq.

Order the product! It is without a doubt the best system and product I have used (and I currently have about 6 different types at home) and it is reasonably priced. Check out the Zaino discussion on the Edmunds board.

may be this has been talked about, but has anyone saw the the insider program at chrone4 last night about safety of backing up? i seems to watch that before, but i don't remember that they mentioned about 50 children was killed at their own driveway each year, and more than 100 wounded, mostly due to uncarefully reverse of their car. they also reported many car manufactories have looked into these matter, but they suspected as the growing numbers of big SUV in the market, the matter will likely to get worst before the car manufactory can come up to an more common solution like back up sensor or back up camera.

so, has anyone here has put in those backup sensor or camera in their car yet? what is the cost of it? and i'm especially interested in those backup camera, they not only has one at the back of the vehicle, it also has an extra one at the back seat to watch out for your infant.

Where do you get Zaino in Canada? I went to the site and e-mailed the so-called "Canadian
distributor" and never heard back. Please let me know! Thanks!

hey thanks for the solution, i saw it somewhere before, didn't know it's purpose. i'll surely try...

and for watching the back seat, may be i should get a wide extended center mirror, slightly rotate it clockwise and down to cover my angel in the back :)

Try repacing your backup light with a beeper backup light from any auto store. Around $5.00. Better than nothing.

Hello. Anyone else have a distinct leather on leather rubbing squeaky noise when the smaller 2nd seat is in the folded up position and the vehicle is moving? Somewhere, the seat is rubbing on the rear of the passenger seat. I can hear it when I am in the driver's seat and it is annoying. I have placed something between the seats and the noise stops. Should I take it in to the dealer or is this normal? Also, someone told me that the dealer can provide you with touch up paint for small scratches. I have noticed one on the silver on my SR5 and would like to blend it in if possible. Thanks...

The site is www.car-fanatic.com You can e-mail or print off an order form (in Word or PDF format)and fax order in if you prefer. All prices in Canadian dollar. It takes a week or so to get product if you go with mail option versus courier, but the process is smooth and efficient.

I just picked up my new black 2002 Sequoia Limited yesterday and have 2 questions from which my salesman couldn't confirm.. Any of you know if the Toyota black paint is clear coated? And secondly, after reading the owner's manual, I was surprised to see the break-in suggestion of not speeding above 88Kmph for the first 1600Kms?? Like, I commute on highways on a daily basis and let me tell you that doing 88 can lead to dangerous situations when the average speed is more around 120Kmph.. any reason behind this? Thanks in advance for your input.

I've been doing the same. It's been plesant here since the end of May. Still lovin the Sequoia.

I just waxed my new seq. with meguiar's Proff. yellow wax #26. Easy to apply and remove and gave a nice look to vehicle with excellent beading.
  • pemarshpemarsh Member Posts: 68
Mine does the squeak thing too...I really dont think its a problem, more of just an annoying thing. I have mine up 24/7 becuase of the dog, so i just got used to it. You might want to make sure your strap is tight enough also.
  • physiochemphysiochem Member Posts: 22
I am not positive about this but my mechanic at my local toyota dealership, which hapens to be MDT certified, claims that the black paint job on the new sequoias has NO clear coat. Let me know if you find a definite answer.
  • norwesternernorwesterner Member Posts: 94
You may want to check the manual for the clear coat questions. I had the same question when I ordered some Zaino products for my wife's black Q45 and it was listed in the manual.

i use lexol leather product to shampoo my leather seats as people kindly advised. on the instruction, it said after a few minutes i shampoo it, i should use dry cloth to wipe it, since i noticed after a few minutes, all the solution has been adsorbed by the leather, there is nothing left to wipe, i just skip this step. under the sun, i found it left some marks (like water marks) on one or two surfaces. so has anyone know is it because i skipped the last step? but it's really nothing left to wipe...

thanks for your time, never mind may be i should call lexol to find out, but i thought it will just bring the sequoia topics back to the top for a while :)
  • 714cut714cut Member Posts: 355
Clear coat- I don't claim to know much about paint but I have read that most paint jobs today are clear coat. I believe all of the Sequoia colors are clear coat. One of the waxing sites said there is an easy way to tell: Use a mild polishing wax and if the color comes off slightly it is not clearcoated. Clearcoating seems to offer better looks and protection.

Break in period- I think the no high speed warning is to give the engine parts a chance to mesh and to warn people to use common sense. Most new car manuals talk more about not driving at one consistent speed-always vary to allow the parts to "mesh".

I ordered a backup sensor made by Rostra. They have specific install instructions for a sequoia. I should have it next week. I'll post my results.
  • petro33petro33 Member Posts: 192
I have been using lexol on my limited seq seats from day one. This was recommended by the Toyota dealer. I did find that the first time there was nothing left to wipe off but I was told I left it on too long. The next time I did not let it stay on so long and it worked fine. Even the small spots like you described came off, I have grey seats, maby another color would show more.
  • eric4wderic4wd Member Posts: 6
You were right on. I just got off the phone with a Toyota Canada representative and confirmed that all 2002 colors made for the Sequoia are clear coated. So that closes the issue.

So any of you guys use/plan in using synthetic oil in your Sequoia? Is it recommended? I've been using Mobil 1 in my Turbo Volvo.. but that was the word of advice since it has a turbo. Don't know if this is overkill for a natual aspirated engine with the service interval being only every 6 months/5000 miles (8000 Kms). Volvo is every 12 months/7,500 miles (12,000Kms). What are your thought on this? Thanks.
  • 714cut714cut Member Posts: 355
    Where are you in Canada?

Everything I have read seems to indicate synthetic oil is superior but unnecessary for normal use and oil change intervals. If you don't mind the extra expense I don't think there is a down side to synthetic.

If you think Toyota's customer service number is long, here is one from Barnes and Noble on a recent book order.

"We are pleased to inform you that your order # 378xxxxx has shipped. For your convenience, we have provided the details of your order below.

You can track your package at http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with tracking code: 420921299102004683202002196148 (When a tracking number is included, please note that we've assigned it before giving the package to the carrier)"

Now, is that a mouthful of numbers or what ? Do you suppose BN customer service is (a) deluded, (b) optimistic, or (c) pessimistic ?

    :)

But the good news is that we (consumers) can always do copy-and-paste of these so-called "tracking number", otherwise we'd be sucking wind trying to not miss a digit while attempting to track a shipped order.

Raddboy is right it is a very large sunroof! For the console, doesn't everybody wear 7 different pair of sunglasses? What were they thinking? My Explorer was factory roof, had the drains to route water away but was a twist up, not slide back one. The rubber seals actually sealed the glass but left a small gap for water on outside edge of seal so it could get to the drain channel. The rest of mine were all aftermarket so same deal. As I said for me, the cons outweighed. Granted its well insulated if the sliding liner is closed, but why would you want it closed if you had the sunroof? That's part of what annoyed me on the Explorer. Having the roof and having to keep it closed. I think you also lose 1 1/2" to 2" of headroom in the second row (not that matters a lot because there is plenty, ESPECIALLY for my 3 1/2 year old). I opted to save $1,000 on the Sequoia and not get frustrated with it. Now I just need to buy 6 more sunglasses and I can make use of the overhead storage!

oac: Those numbers have enough digits provide a label to every individual page of text ever written and likely ever to be written!

steve: Just like Ralph Nader - never say with 10 words what you can say with thousands of them! Of course, the man might some day be prez and put an end to domestic drilling ... and consumption ... once and for all!
