This is all great, now when am I going to be able to buy a car or truck that incorporates all this lightening in the body and structure, but isn't weighed down by all the "more content, such as infotainment systems, leather seats and larger wheels" that THIS consumer is in no way demanding. I can see it now, my very own Crew cab Silverado with the 6.2L, cloth seats, roll-up windows and manual locks, and only weighs 4000 lbs.
Aside from the frame, not sure where else you are going to lose 1000 lbs. leather, nav system, door locks and power windows versus the manual/cloth options isn't going to net much weight savings. These half ton trucks that tow up to 10,000 lbs need to have a gov't imposed weight restriction on towing capacity if you really want to see weight savings in the structural components. 10k is a lot of weight and skimping on frame, wheels, tires, trans, suspension, fluids, axles, driveshafts, t-case, engine etc... will make them dangerous if consumers demand towing capability.
