Recalled but Unrepaired Cars Are a Safety Risk to Consumers

  I have a quick question that I hope you can help with. I recently worked at a auto dealership service center that had a Safety Recall pertaining to a brake switch that was defective and had to be replaced. The service manager was allowing a lube tech.who is not certified by the manufacturer to put these parts in vehicles due to not having enough certified technicians available.Some vehicles had come back needing it put in properly because it was not put in properly the first time and the vehicle was displaying the same safety concerns( no-start, stop running at highway speeds, limp mode,etc). My question is: Does the person putting in a Manufacturer Safety Recall part have to be a Certified Technician in Washington State ?

  Thats a good question. I see it hasn't been answered at least publicly, which indicates that Edmunds doesn't seem to monitor the comments left here. I found that this site also isn't necessarily the best for helping consumers with safety concerns. Carmax is a major car dealership that has consistently glossed over RECALLS on vehicles, but they advertise as if all their cars have been inspected and are safe. I know other used car dealers do the same, but when a company consistently advertises their vehicles in the manner that Carmax does, I think they should be held accountable. http://www.wcvb.com/news/used-cars-with-open-safety-recalls-for-sale/36960624

  Pretty much the same story with rental cars - as I recall, Congress has fixed that loophole. (USA Today)
