What sort of magnets are in the rear speakers of my 2014 Civic LX Coupe ?

I was initially appalled at the extremely small magnet size. And then, when I tried to test the relative strength of the magnets, I could but barely find any magnetic force there at all!

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

    Digging around, I've seen some postings online from folks who run into space issues with aftermarket speakers with larger magnets. I'm guessing the original speakers are a cost and space saving choice.

    That being said, it is amazing how speaker technology has improved over the years and the quality of sound that comes out of speakers that I would never have considered large enough to produce the sound they do.

    Are you thinking of replacements? Dissatisfied with sound quality?

    I have not been impressed by the sound.

    Unless there are rare-earth magnets in these small 5"D speakers (which I doubt due to the cost factor) I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the lack of bass. But still, I am totally shocked at the meager magnetic force I found.

    For many years I routinely replaced rear speakers in each new car I bought (probably 10 or 12 times). Rear speakers used to be mounted from underneath and could be easily replaced. Today however, rear speakers require great efforts to replace (especially so in my Civic Coupe) and I don't foresee my doing that.

    Yea, they really pack everything tight on vehicles now, trying to make use of every last cubic inch of space.

    There is plentiful space where my dinky speakers are located to have mounted the formerly standard-sized 6x9 speakers ---- and with equivalently large magnets.

    So what are you going to put in?

    The way the speakers are mounted and the way they are wired makes the effort to change them just too involved. But I will certainly look closer at this issue in the next new car I buy.
