    I can tolerate ugly, but it's the function that really turns me off. Having driven in darkness in the lane next to a Cherokee, the headlights are truly terrible in their light pattern. They may look stupid, but they see even stupider. A case of being different, without any sense of being better

    I completely agree with you Edmunds. The front end is pretty horrid, and I have no idea what they were thinking with that headlight design. I didn't like them when they first came out, and like yourself, I still don't like them.

    The Pontiac G6ish slopping window sill bugs me too. Just looks plain awkward.

    I really liked both front end styling and the truck's looks overall when it first hit, but now only a year and a half later I think it looks dated already. Not so much in the Trailhawk trim, but certainly in the base models.

    i could maybe tolerate the trailhawk trim but otherwise i totally agree.

    The Trailhawk's lower front facia is angled back much more severely than other Cherokee models, to give it a much better angle of approach, something you want on a vehicle that goes off road. By doing so, it also visually greatly reduces the huge front end mass that afflicts other Cherokees. The 2-tone (matte black and body color) also helps break up that huge mass.

    Yes, the headlights need to be rethought. On all other Jeeps the top edges of the headlights align with the top edge of the grille. On the Cherokee the headlights actually dip below the bottom of the grille. This is bad in that it makes the headlights look small and weak, whereas on other Jeeps the headlights (because of the higher location) look strong and powerful.

    I respectfully disagree. Though it looks bad in pictures, in person I think the Cherokee is attractive, and certainly distinctive. Cross-shopped the Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V, and their styling looks dated already. Quality-wise I liked the Subaru a lot, too; the Honda felt like junk. We ordered our silver Cherokee Limited in December and got it in February and are very happy with it.
