Tail pipe broke away from muffler, can it be welded?

picture is in the comments, but I took the truck out to go fishing today and just noticed it when I got back, but the tail pipe has broken away from the muffler about 4-5 inches to the rear. Possible to have it welded?

Yes! It can be welded, but depending on whether you do it yourself or hire it done it may not be cost effective. Remember that welding metal makes it much more susceptible to rusting. So if you weld it up, get a good high heat exhaust paint and protect your investment. Use a cut off wheel and take about 1/2 to 3/4 inch off the pipe and the muffler to eliminate the old weld, clean it up real good inside and out with a wire brush attachment for a drill or something similar, then weld in an adaptor over the pipe and into the muffler, then after its cold, paint the the exhaust system. It will last much longer that way. I notice bare under floors in the photo, might want to undercoat and head off rust there. Of course that depends on whether you plan to keep the car for a long period of time, this will also add a good selling point if you want to sell it.5 -
