Volvo XC90 from 2007 - Check Engine light

Recently I bought a Volvo XC90 from 2007. Today the Check Engine light lit on. Is this a common problem with this model and what is the most usual cause of this? What is your experience with this?

The most common cause for a check engine light is a loose gas cap, so rule that out first.
If the light doesn't go out after checking out the gas cap, most auto parts stores will read the code for free. Then you can come back and report what the code is and get some more suggestions.
