    I really didn't like it when all cars started to look like the same jellybean. And I miss the days when you could tell not only make and model, but year, just at a glance. Some folks aren't going to like the look of the Mirai, but it's unique. I like that they went for it on the styling side of things.

    Indeed, this is like 1958-61 all over again. I am pretty sure Toyota brought Virgil Exner back from the dead.

    The hard part is that everyone wants their vehicles to be "slippery" and cut through the air nicely. But all that leads toward similar shapes.

    I don't think fins will come around again, but they would be aerodynamic!

    The trunk/hatch link prevents them from being fins. Extreme pedestrian safety regs will probably prohibit real fins. Those tail lights are unique though, probably cost $1500 apiece and will be broken by the corner-denting skills typical of the Camry-Prius demographic.

    Not seeing it. Although the current Toyolex design ethos certainly seems trying to mimic 58-61 domestic cars.

    Horizontal vs vertical, I don't see it. I do see the link between the overstyled 58-61 domestics and Toyolex, though. Nisfiniti is competing there now, too.

    I'm anxious to see one in person, but from the pics it looks like resting your Coke can on the fin while you open the hatch could be a bit dicey.
