Seized Engine

I have a 2008 Acadia I bought used a year and a half ago. I have always done the maintenance on it including the oil changes every 3k miles. It has about 83K on it and when my husband drove it to work on Monday the engine died and it coasted into the parking lot. We took it to the dealer where they told us the engine seized. We went back to the dealer we bought it from to find out what they could do for us and we were told that its from aftermarket oil filters so they are telling me that they can do nothing for us. Is this normal?

Engine seizure is not a normal due to after market filters. Previous useage, maintenance, low oil levels could, among other issues.
