  The Sonata makes a compelling full size sedan for fleet sales anyway. One of the best cars I've ever rented

  The Azera was made for that apparently unfilled niche between a loaded Sonata and a base Genesis. It predates the Genesis, yes, but was kept in the lineup for years later. The market says the niche never existed - maybe the same for the Cadenza. I've barely seen any newer Azera, maybe a few more (better looking) Cadenza.
  
  Sonata is indeed a fleet master, I see a lot of them as rentals.

  I think the Azera made sense when it first came out around 2006. At the time, I remember it did seem nicer, and roomier, than the Sonata. But, fast forward to 2016, and the Sonata is a little bit bigger inside than the 2006 was, while the Azera is actually smaller inside than the 2006 was. According to the EPA, the Sonata and Azera are now both rated at 106/16 cubic feet of passenger/trunk volume. And, I'm sure the Sonata has gotten nicer inside over the years.
  
  I think Toyota did a similar thing with the Camry and Avalon, where the current Avalon is a bit smaller inside than it had been. But, IIRC, it's still a bit bigger than a Camry.
