Spark plugs in transmission?

I am in the process of changing the transmission oil in my 2000 ford ranger...4 cylinder with 5 speed manual trans... while under the truck I noticed 2 spark plugs in the transmission. One was attached to a cable the other wasn't and I could not find another cable. What are these for? the truck was running fine, kinda hard to shift into 1st and reverse, hence the oil change... but I cannot figure out what these spark plugs are for. Anyone know?
