    Hopefully Honda stays on track. The next generation models hopefully will be just as good as the new Civic. The 1.5T engine should be their standard engine in the new CR-V and Accord.

    Class leading? But in what class? The Civic is no longer a compact car. Edmunds admits "it's a big car", roughly the same in length as a 1982 Accord. So what class does this car lead?

    It's still considered a compact sedan in our minds, or at least mine. It's up against cars like the Mazda3, which is only 5 inches shorter in hatchback form. Sure, it's 10-12 inches longer than some other competitors from Ford and Kia, but the extra legroom front and back is worth the exterior length. I think that speaks to the Civic's versatility too -- the fact that it can compete with compacts and even some midsize sedans.

    There it is. You've done it. I waited through your entire year with the CLA for someone to compare it to one of the better mainstream compact sedans. So many of Edmunds' comments regarding CLA seemed lifted directly from a compact sedan review. I think you had the Mazda3 around the same time and it just seemed like the comparison was ripe to be made. It took a couple of years, and the outstanding Civic, to get you to do it but I'm glad you did.

    The styling, the thoughtless IP and the brake-assist issues would queer me on this car. It's great otherwise.

    That turbocharged engine. There is low-end power here that makes every little high-strung Honda four-cylinder engine before it seem gutless and underpowered.

    Only took them, what, about 50 years in the North American market?

    The continuously variable transmission. It simulates gears...

    This I don't get. Just put in a torque converter or leave the CVT alone to do its thing.

    I sat in one and liked it in general, but the CVT and audio controls are what kill it for me.

    The first 2016 Civic I saw I thought it was an Accord! Honda managed to hit this one over the fence!

    You'll only have to wait until the 2017 model year. Every 1.5t trim level will get a 6 speed manual option.
