    One of these days someone is going to get to a pump that doesn't work and doesn't have enough range to get to the next station and will probably have to make special arrangements (I'd bet many towers don't know enough to be willing to take it, like electric vehicles) to get it towed to the next station. I'm not really sure of the appeal other than feeding your Eco Ego.

    H2 is a neat science experiment. In the real world, not so much. Imagine thousands of pumps around the country, with Jo-Bob fixing them. The fact that H2 is just about the most explosive gas out there (in almost all mixtures with air, unlike methane, propane, or gasoline fumes) gives me the willies...

    With the stated goal of reducing CO2 emissions in 2050 to a fraction of what they were in 2000, technologies like the hydrogen fuel cell will have to be part of the solution. Hybrids, plug in hybrids, and even electrics aren't going to be able to get the job done and will all be history as early as 2040.

    No easy way to make h2 without using methane or coal. It's far from pollution free. EV would be as good with no new distribution system needed.

    That would be true if solar or wind power could not be transformed to electricity to perform electrolysis of water and produce H2...

    Like I said. Electrolysis is very inefficient. Why not just charge an EV instead.

    Looked it up, H2 from electrolysis is 3-10 times as expensive as from natural gas, which produces 94% of all H2 used today. CNG vehicles would also be a good alternative, infrastructure is in place an the gas is plentiful.

    CNG would be especially good for short haul truckers who can return to the terminal every night.
