Yep, its because people do their research and know how much sense (and cents) the Civic makes. Our previously primary family vehicle was (and still is owned) a 2013 Pilot that gets 19 MPG and is an expensive vehicle. Now with our 16 Civic, my family of 4 is very comfortable (in a CIVIC!) on our weekend drives to places while getting 40+ MPG and having a car that costs a little more than half of what the Pilot does.

To put in comparison, our large local dealer (Chattanooga, TN) has 215 Accords and 153 Civics and 119 CRVs, but only 43 Odysseys, only 41 Fits (surprising given the low cost) and a whopping 14 Pilots. To put in comparison, in 2013, they had 3 Pilots of our rare Blue color in the exact model we wanted. They likely had at least 100 Pilots at that time.

The Civic has always sold well, with recent mediocre models trading on the nameplate's reputation. Now that the car is great again it's no surprise to see them everywhere.

People recognize that Honda woke up after being stagnant after its glory days of innovation, and turned off many years of cruise control as the competition caught up.

To be fair, the Pilot is still in very high demand, far outweighing the supply. When I left the Honda dealer where I was selling cars (about two months ago) Pilots were still going for at or slightly below MSRP (like $1,000 or less below MSRP) and had a shelf life of less than two weeks.
