  I agree, the CVT is awesome and I have a Miata with MT as my other car. Even in "Eco" mode, the Turbo provides lots of power and absolutely feels like a "smart" automatic. Clearly, Honda needs to implement this in their Pilot as well.

  I haven't driven the Civic yet, but it sounds like it operates like the CVT in my '15 Outback (3.6R). Under WOT, it fake shifts like it's a 6 speed. When in D, I can tap the paddles to downshift or engine brake. Under normal driving, it chooses an RPM that will get the job done, none of that rev way up high rubber band feeling.

  That's how I'd like to be able to drive my Civic 1.5L. But Honda keeps insisting that paddle shifters are only for "sporty" versions in most models. That being said, I agree with Mr. Kavanaugh regarding how well the CVT and 1.5L work together. I've gotten pretty proficient at controlling the "shifting" by just using the gas pedal. To a much finer degree of control than I've ever experienced with a conventional AT.
