2000 Prizm Light Switch and running lights coming on when egine starts

Just bought 2000 Geo prizm and when I start car, headlights and tailights come on, without turning on the light switch on steerging column. This seems weird, not correct, and trying to anticipate possible more serious issues arising in this area. It is as tho the light switch is always on, when it is off. If I turn it on, then when I turn it off, the headlights briefly flicker. No real problems, yet. Also the dash lights also coming on automatically also. r6

    Are you talking about daytime running lights that automatically come on when you start the vehicle (as they should) ?
