Thanks!
I just wanted to post one more time today so I could wish all of you a safe and GREAT weekend. to those of you who have Cats: Enjoy them out in the beautiful weather. To all who are still waiting: I know how you guys and girls feel, but in the end the wait will have been worth it.
I also wanted to thank all of you again for your support. The CSG is a success because of all of you. We may not be the biggest Cougar club, but I seriously doubt any of the bigger clubs have the sense of community we have. I'm really proud to be apart of this group, and i'm happy to know all of you.
Have a GREAT weekend!
-Rob
AKA "Badulah"
CSG Caretaker
Tomorrow morning we leave for our cruise and will be without my cat and the CSG. Actually, I think they have an internet cafe on board. But, I think I can do without this place for 1 week..........then again maybe not!!!!
Catscratch: Congratulations! It will be a rough weekend, but well worth the wait, hang in there!
I did notice on the way home that I lost about 10 horsepower though!
I'm pretty busy this weekend, so that alone should help pass the time. Well, back to flipping through my brochure for the hundred millionth time. hehehe
Have a great weekend all
The kitty does come with optional traction control (has a little on-off button on the dash). If your winters are bad, you may want to consider that. I've got it on mine and have been using it in the frog-strangler downpours we get around here. I like that extra grab on the road.
will not be a problem. I belong to many orgs, and have dues for all of them. However there is not one that I get as much out of as CSG. You people are the best.
Fastback2 - I am also from upstate NY, you going to Lake Placid?
Badulah & Stageleft - Count me in for a $ membership. The CSG was an invaluable resource when I was making my purchase decision, and you've continued to pass along good info(enabled me to install a CD player all by myself, among other things!).
I may not post very much, but I'm a dedicated reader and a thrilled Kitty owner (9 months/14K mi).
Thanks for all the hard work - and the entertainment along the way!!
:-) Lorrian
In other words, my kitty's at the dealer! Still have to sign paperwork through CarOrder, but since I'm out of town on biz for the next 10 days, it's not as excrutiatingly painful as it might otherwise be.
Malibu: Do you live in the SF Bay Area of CA? If so, let me know where you get your kitty's windows tinted, and if they do a good job. I think that's the first mod I'll get done.
Thanks to all! My Cougar's finally here! Woo-hoo!
I have never been a cat person but I am beginning to understand. I want mine neowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Badulah:
What's the deal on the dues. I am new here and don't know the history but found CSG invaluable so will do what I can to help.
All,
The A/C was on when I was test driving and I didn't notice any drag. May be relative though, compared to my 4 banger ZX2.
Thanks all
Yep, I am definitely heading for LP next month. I rented a couple of kabins for the CSG crew so I am planning to take the Friday before that weekend (July 22-23) off so I can head over there a little early and check in.
Badulah
Count me in for CSG financial support. We've got a pretty good thing going here and I have no problem kicking in a few $s if needed.
Not to worry your friend too much, but I distinctly remember certain model year Fieros having a little problem with electrical fires in the engine bay. Since the bodywork is plastic (a la Saturn) it would probably make for a rather spectacular car fire. It might be a good idea to get a listing of TSBs for his car just in case.
Like I said earlier, it had a 2.8L V6, MTX. I believe the engine was the same that came in the basic Camaro, but it was a terrible match up with the Camaro. I'm sure it would have been a lot better in the Fiero since it is a much lighter car. I don't remember how may HP the engine produces. I doubt if it was anymore than 150 at the very most.
Daexpert: Tell your friend to be careful in that fiero...my neighbor ran over the back of one in her explorer, there was nothing left, luckly the lady driving only had minor injuries. There isn't much car around to protect you, just plastic.
This past weekend I also noticed that my A/C was not blowing a whole lot of cold air. It was cool, but certainly not cold. Does this happen to any of you guys?
I've found if I'm in a lot of stop-n-go traffic that even with max AC and the fan turned up, the car doesn't get as cool as it does when I'm able to keep moving....even if I'm moving slowly. However, in our lovely 90+ heat and humidity this weekend I was able to stay comfortable if not chilly by cranking it all the way up.
It is odd though to have my hair whipping in the breeze and all the windows closed.
coolchick:
Re your posts #78 & 79, you might want to read my post #183 under CSG General Maintenance, Topic #5.
Good luck.
StageLeft and I have been working on the future of the CSG for the past couple of days. We believe we have found a web hosting company that will suit all of our needs for a very good price.
Since we have plans to make CSG items and discounts available on-line, we have also gathered information on a business license and a PO Box. After we finish getting all of of the necessary information we will post all of our findings and the final amount needed to make all of this happen.
Again, we want to thank all of you for supporting us and the future of the CSG.
-Rob
Where are you getting your Cougar from? I got mine from Lincoln Heights Ford. I dont't have anything particularly good or bad to say about them except that they have really good service hours - open until midnight on weekdays.
If you havn't already, you should check out the CSG website:
(home.att.net/~cougarsupportgroup/index.html).
It has some great features and links to old posts. We must be approaching 10,000 posts in total by now (correct me if I'm wrong, Badulah and Stageleft). Also check out the planned events. I'm planning on attending the Lake Placid get-together in July (only about a 3 hour drive in a Cougar, 3.5 hours in another car).
Cheers,
Andy.
We are racking up the posts, although i'm not sure on the exact number.
Camelard:
As Krnch said, Welcome to the CSG. In here you will not only find GREAT Cougar information, you will find some really GREAT people from across the US and Canada. We have been around since January of 1998, and with all of the plans we have, we are hoping to be here for years to come.
If you ever have any Cougar questions, this is the place to come. You can also check out our web site at: http://home.att.net/~cougarsupportgroup
Currently the site is frozen because we have used all of our space (we are currently working to relocate the site to a bigger space), but you will still be able to access everything currently posted.
Here's what we have so far, in no particular order:
www.cougarsupportgroup.com
www.csghq.com
www.csgweb.com
www.hondalovers.com [puts on a flack jacket]
If you don't like any of these, by all means suggest some more! I know you all have some great ideas, so start rolling them in (or typing them, whichever you prefer).
I too would be willing to contribute to the cause, if you take Canadian coin.
A.
When I arrived at the shopping plaza, what did I spot but a silver Cougar. I didn't get close to it, but it appeared a tad weathered, perhaps a '99 that went through the winter.
Then I came out of the supermarket, and had to do a double-take--sitting in the path to my own Cougar was another Light Sapphire Blue Cougar, the first one with the same color as mine in the area. Rats! But nobody will ever mistake us--this was also the first Cougar I have seen that does not have the rear spoiler. Let me tell you, our car has an entirely different look without that wing, folks!
I eyed the car closely, and noted that a) It has 300 more miles on it than mine does (being in the shop for the deer strike repairs did that for me) and b) it has the new cup holder, which is fixed in place to the right of the parking brake--an integral part of the hump. Not sure if I like it better, as it presents a gaping hole there, and surely is quite hard to keep clean.
This Cougar also lacked fog lamps, so apparently the owner eschewed one of the packages I got...I don't recall which package had the spoiler and fog lamps in it, but I recall that they were together.
But three Cougars together in one small town in Pennsylvania...are they really selling that poorly?
Loving my Cougar!
That's the only option I could think of on short notice. I like www.csg_hq.com better than having it all run together.
And since I'm going to bookmark it, www.cougarsupportgroup.com wouldn't be too long for me.
Just my two pennies (I'm willing to kick in more than that for the actual site).
krnch:
I got mine from Hunt Club Ford Lincoln. This is the fourth car from them and I have always been pleased. Many years ago, early eighties actually, I worked for Lincoln Heights Mercury. Even when I worked there I wasn't thrilled with their service department. I have heard they have improved but Hunt Club has been so good to me I have stuck with them.
Badulah:
I have been to the CSG site and found it very helpful. All of you helped me make up my mind and go for the Cat. I will be happy to contribute and like the www.cougarsupportgroup.com URL. Real easy to remember although I will have it in my favorites.
All:
Thanks for all the support. I know I didn't have to wait as long for my Cat as some of you did but even a few days can be excruciating, as any of my co-workers will attest to.
P.S. Why would anyone get this car without the spoiler. I don't know about in the U.S. but here it is a standard item that you have to delete for credit. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!
Firstly, congratulationas on finally receiving your beautiful new Cat. I know you will love it.
I know that I may be in the minority here regarding the subject, but... I have had negative experiences with car covers.
Unless you place an immaculately clean cover over an immaculately clean paint job, EVERY SINGLE TIME, you will grind those tiny sharp road dust particles into your vehicle's finish whenever you cover or uncover it. Since it is impossible to have such laboratory clean conditions, over time, the cumulative effect is like using a fine sandpaper on your paint. Not recommended.
I believe that the spoiler does not perform any actual function, so the only issue is whether you want it there. The good news is, them as want it can have it while them as don't want it can have it gone.
Yes, I've been living with my rattle-ridden car for a month or two -- no complaints, except for the alignment getting all out-o-whack. The Firestones must begin to shred so that I might have a reason for getting rid of them. Terrible excuses for vulcanized rubber products (or whatever they're really made of these days).
Looks like the topics have swirled around the future of the Cougar -- and Mercury. I for one have to point to my favorite car at my dealership's lot now and give a nod of agreement in the direction of the LS. Nice car. Not enough storage space. Needs a manual tranny on the V-8.
The A/C topic earlier was interesting -- I've ALWAYS had the little mouse squeak hiccup with the A/C. Is there a tech bulletin on the O-ring replacement? I need something concrete to convince the dealership mechanics to fix the problem. I hate the stupid noise -- comes with a hiccup in the driveline that bothers my already frayed nerves with this car.
That's about it. Getting ready to take this 'mobile on a nice long ride to the Gulf Coast of southern Florida. We'll see how she holds up. I only wish I wasn't the only manual tranny driver between myself and my girlfriend. Lazy poophead never would let me teach her last week...
Enjoy the heat...

Lemme tell everyone, this car just f#$@'n rocks! The compliments and stares I got today are worth well over 20G's. And talk about a great ride! Last night I didn't get much sleep, not only was I anxious as hell, but I had a sore back. I woke up sore, I'm still sore, but even with this soreness, I found the seats extremely comfy. I don't know if I got the "new" seats, but I'm perfectly happy with the ones I got. One of my friends at work agreed. LOL, if I didn't know any better I woulda thought he owned my car. He owns a '00 Silverado w/ options galore, and I don't think I'd trade him. Well, ok I would, but I'd trade in the truck on the "S".
I have one complaint about my car: my "trunk" concealer thingy that is fastened to the hatch, it sits a lil crooked...it bugs me every time I look in the rearview mirror.
BTW, that day/nightm mirror w/ compass is very cool IMHO. Definitely worth the $200 (installation included)
~cue dream sequence~
It's just too bad none of us are billionaires....then we could save the Cougar by buying thousands of them if need be. Or we could buy out Mercury and refine the sports coupe class.....and produce a Cougar with 300+ HP
~end dream sequence~
The principal of the school and one of the main characters, drives a spruce green Cougar. Last night, it playfully held her coat belt as she was trying to leave her car... A cameo appearance is better than none at all!
Camelard & Catscratch: Congratulations on picking up your Cats! I can see already by the excitement in your posts that you all will love this car. Enjoy.
Burnsmr4: Welcome back, there should be a TSB on the a/c O-rings, check at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/
And if you have any concerns about recalls on your Cat, check out: http://www.edmunds.com/edweb/recalls.html
Take care all, and thanks for the continued support!
