Some workplaces have proxy servers that basically route all internet traffic through it to your pc. (That proxy server helps secure your workplaces' network - and filter the good and bad stuff to your pc)
I've found that IE sometimes works better if you do a CTRL-refresh on a page that doesn't seem to be displaying correctly. And I've also found SHIFT-refresh to work sometimes too.
Netscape definitely works better at our workplace with our proxy server. I rarely have to CTRL or SHIFT reload when I'm using Netscape.
Saw the Nissan XTrail in the Paris Show preview, and it looks small. The XTerra is kind of small inside, so I wonder how the XTrail interior will look.
It may be a bit overboard in the styling department, though - the fender flares have flares, and the roof rack looks silly.
The GMC Envoy looks a lot bigger (270hp standard, too), and they'll offer a 3rd row seat in a stretched model. Explorer is also a lot bigger, but I doubt any of these will handle very well. We'll have to see.
After Subaru's successful introduction of the H-6 in 2001, the company will be topping it off by introducing a floatation option so that one can drive their Outback on the water. It will be fitted with special wheels that will act like propellers projecting the amphibious craft. A new computer will be fitted to utilize the AWD capabilities to allow the vehicle to make tight turns. For instance, when making a left turn in water, it will shutdown the left wheels and allow the right wheels to spin the craft around much faster. The car will also feature an interior vacuum pressurization system to tighten all door seals preventing water from coming in. An anchor and fishing rod holders will be optional.

Golf, I guess- not on our radar screens at this point, but surely worth a look.
Passat Wagon- Oh, she likes it, she does. Price, though.....
Mini Cooper- cute as hell. attractive inside and out. marginally practical. Wil not arrive for another year and a half, will probably be $20K or more, and suffer the one-two reliability punch of German electronics and Brazilian driveline. And it's a new model, so it will have bugs anyway.

I like many of the ones listed, especially the styling of the PT Cruiser and Focus Wagon, crash results (PT) and unknown reliability (Focus) issues aside. The current model Impreza OBS styling is fair (no offense Bob & Ramon); the lack of usable cargo space is disappointing. OTOH it's a sporty looking hatchback. Have you heard of any reliability reports (anecdotal or otherwise) on the Focus?
Wow, they weren't kidding when they said that it was compact! I wonder why our North American H6 wagons won't be getting the steering wheel with the Momo badge in the middle. It looks much nicer than the plain old "Subaru" wording, IMHO. Are they afraid that the Momo imprint will end up on someone's forehead if the airbag deploys? Possible copyright infringement? ;-) Perhaps Patti could dig up some info. for us.

You mentioned the Nissan X-trail (which debut at the '00 Paris Auto show recently) a little while ago. Here are two large and clear pictures. I think I like it, though the front end looks a little strange (particularly the headlamps positioned high above the top of the grill).

I wonder if my bumbers are paintable? Surely the sides are just a question of removing that "slate" gray adhesive....which, BTW has curled in one corner anyway!
The plastic sides on the OB are removable* So if you wanted a funny looking monochrome OB you could do it! No go on the bumpers thoiugh...
(*In fact, I got a bit worried when I realized it's possible for moisture to be trapped between the plastic and the metal beneath. Likely though, it's rust proof because the painted surface can never get scratched.)

The Focus looks like a good choice, but I haven't seen any reliability scores yet (worth a look). Golf 1.8T would be interesting if you worked on the suspension (hello Eibach!).
Mini Cooper will get a 1.6l engine made in Brazil, and it doesn't take a Brazilian to know our QC leves aren't yet up to par. If you get the OBS, order the twin spoilers from the JDM model.
Ash - that steel is also double-galvanized. Almost all panels are.
Sadly, my '99 OB merely has some sort of adhesive stuff along the bottom. Only the '00 on has plastic paneling.

I doubt the PT is going to win this. Dealers are still gouging, we both have QC worries, safety is now an issue with this car. Cool car, but maybe not to own. It is now in the Edmunds LT fleet. So is the Focus, with mixed QC results.
Honestly, I am not sure we have the budget for a Forester. I am hoping that the OBS drives well enough to overcome Q's misgivings about it's looks. FWIW she hates those wings!
Wow - an Outback that *I* would buy. That's a first! It looks excellent in monochrome. Now if only they'd get rid of the silly wood on the steering wheel... although I did think of something good to say about the wood; maybe it keeps people from putting their hands there, and keeps them at 10 and 2. And the engine - no water jacket between the cylinder walls - how'd they do that?
I agree with the reviewer that Forester feels really powerful. To the date, there was not a single moment when I wish it had more power.
I took it off-roading a few times, and was actually very pleased with low center of gravity, when getting in somewhat tippy situations. I guess something more tall and tippy would be much scarier to drive.

I just got back from my dealership last saturday and we were chit chatting....I ask when will the new WRX be in the showrooms. One of the guys said that right after it debuts at teh Arizona car show?! Which is sometime April and it will be shipped out to showrooms by the end of the month. Whoohoo. And I asked how much. They laughed and told me that they have no idea. And then they asked me how much should it be and I replied....not more than 38K CDN. One of the sales guy said "SOLD!!". He seemed surprised that I put such a high price on it and he was totally willing to sell it for that price. So I figure it would be less than CDN38K which i am not sure how much in USD. That would be sweet. That means I can afford it too. Looks like my stepdad's 330Ci will get some fierce competition!
Anyone else check out the coverage? What do you think so far? Here's my take on the concepts:
Z9: Looks silly, like a Chrysler Hemi-C with a cheap oversized wing.
Audi Steppenwolf: they spoiled the gorgeous TT. Why?
Porsche Carrera GT: unoriginal. Looks like a Shelby Series 1 with an F360 face.
S60 PC: looks good. Volvo gets graded on a curve due to low expectations for style, but this looks even better than the S80.
Daewoo Kalos: surprisingly cute for a tall wagon. Most are scary looking. 105hp? Never mind. At least Daewoo has great JD Power ratings (4th overall)
Hyundai Neos: blatant copy of the Prowler. And why aim for light weight and then come out with gullwind doors? Looks good enough but the HCD roadster looked better (remember they promised a $15k 150hp roadster?) ended up becoming the Tiburon.
nah he got a 330Ci. Doing to be delivered this December. He made a bet with me if the new WRX is 38k and below he'll get one for me. hahahaha.... I'm quite confident that the new WRX will have both the 330Ci and 330Xi beat.... stock for stock. Remember the new WRX tho is heavier than the older WRX is still under 3000lbs. Both of the bimmers comes in at 3500-ish lbs.
New M3 has 333, it is the cover story in the November 2000 Automobile that I found the Impreza turbo story in. It is heavier, 3450lb. ('99 was 3175.)
The car was driven in Europe and the article was a European staffer. He subjectively claimed it to be superlative in every way over the e36 m3, but with the added weight and added pricetag (starts at $46k now) I don't see how this conclusion is arrived at.
There was no instrumented testing either, just subjective driving and reporting of BMW's claimed performance (something like 0-62 in 4.6s IIRC).

There's a good column on the WRX Impreza (page 66)of the new issue of Road & Track. In part, the article says "The good news is that the U.S. will receive a turbocharged WRX AWD model powered by a free-revving and torquey 2.0 liter flat-four that pumps out 250 bhp". The article goes on to say " Complementing the car's outstanding driving dynamics is an interior that has received careful attention from Subaru's designers and engineers. It now matches the quality, look and feel of European compact cars, including the VW Golf, which was Subaru's benchmark. That's no mean feat, and major players such as Toyota and Honda are also finding it hard to do".
Since we all know subaru hasn't announced the HP for the US impreza. Once again the media skews things. I wish they would focus on the facts, instead of the conjecture...
But there's no facts yet.... in anycase, if it has 220hp, I am very happy. I would be off loading my OBS sooner than I thought. Dang wish I can keep both. I love my OBS! It's so fun and puppy like. Today I parked next to a new Golf and (I might be biased) but there's no comparo, my OBS is way more spunky and kewler than that Golf. Heck.... OK enuf rant. Paisan : also there's no facts saying that we will get a detuned version either.
Thanks for the clarification. Because the HP and most of the specs for that matter have not been released, any information that is printed by Car mags and newspaper is just conjecture. They may have actually received the information (but I doubt it), but even then are subject to an agreement that they will not print it until the info is released.

Steering wheel mounted buttons for the automanual sounds like something a lot of folks here have been asking for.
The bigger size hopefully won't mean a big weight gain, like the 2000 Legacy had (200+ lbs). Tidy size and weight are what make the Impreza.
I've heard VW will offer 6 speed manuals, 5 speed Tiptronics, and HIDs soon. Subaru ought to keep up.

The 325xi sport wagon is actually a closer competitor. Almost $32k US, though, and that doesn't get you a moonroof or the much need sports package.
They only offer AWD on the sedan (325xi and 330xi) and wagon (325xi only). Hmm, the new Impreza will be the same way...coincidence?

The 170hp 323i automatic I drove was not impressive at all. It needs a 5 speed manual, more power, or both.
