I am looking at a spare tire kit on Ebay for my car after being stranded with a tire that my kit wouldn't fix.

You'll need a jack, a lugnut wrench, a wheel, a tire, and a place to stow all that stuff.
You could use a full sized tire and wheel, even going so far as doing a 5 tire rotation. Or you could use a minispare with an appropriate wheel.
If you go the minspare route, you'll have to find one with enough load carrying capacity - and keep in mind that minispares are restricted to 50 mph.
You'll also need to consider that the spare also needs air checks periodically.1
