Empty antifreeze tank causes catalytic converter error code.

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS. It has approximately 227k miles. On two separate occasions the antifreeze tank has empty creating the error code. When I refill the tank the code goes away. I had a pressure test run but a leak was not found. So the antifreeze is probably burning off. It was suggested to me it could be a head gasket but there is no evidence of antifreeze in the oil. Has anyone else experienced this?

You could have a head gasket leak without oil contamination. The leak is just sending coolant into the cylinder where as you say, it’s burning off. At 227k miles I’d question if the expense of a head gasket repair is worth it unless you can do it yourself. I’d try using the gasket sealer in a can which can work for a while. Sometimes those cheap fixes can give you a few extra months or years of life. Just keep watch on coolant and don’t let it overheat.

Shame, I always likes the style on the 3rd generation Eclipse.
