This is my first post here, ordered my 2001 QC 4.7L 4X2 on March 8. I've called once to check the status and it's hard not to keep calling every day to get an update. Most people are not aware that there are different grades of CDRs out there. The cheap one's will skip in most car stereos and cheap home systems. The answer is to simply buy better CDRs. Maxell makes some pretty good ones as does Memorex.

My 01,Quad goes in Tuesday so they can take measurements off the axle.
Every 4x2 on the lot has this offset when I was there. My passenger side tire sits out a inch farther then the drivers side. Should be intresting to see what they say Tuesday.

One last thing on the offset situation. As long as the wheels are parallel front to rear, there is no problems. Maybe, if they were several inches offset, but not for an inch or less. If the axles are not equal distance on both sides, that will cause some handling problems. That is what they are doing in the NASCAR pits. They use the string to compare axle to axle distance on both sides to see if a front axle has been distorted.

I'm also trying to upgrade my stereo system, so while I can't answer your questions, I was hoping that you could help with mine. I have the basic factory cassette/receiver with four speakers - round 6.5"? in each door. How many speakers do you have? Since you have the steering wheel radio controls I am guessing you have the top of the line system (CD, Cassette, EQ) with 8 speakers, advertised as the Infinity brand. Now, does anyone know if the basic factory unit I have is a non-infinity brand? There are spaces in the rear doors that appear to be cutouts for the extra speakers, yet B.O.B. doesn't show anything except the basic round speaker assembly. What I really want to know is can I add more speakers to my existing head unit, do wires for the 6 and 8 speaker systems already reside in the doors, or am I S.O.L.?
In regards to adding more bass response to your system, it may depend (as in my case) if your reciever has enough power to drive the subwoofer or whether you need to add an additional amplifier? I'm sorry, I'm totally stupid about this. Fortunately, a friend of mine who knows alot about audio systems is stopping by tommorrow to answer my questions. He's probably going to tell me that my existing reciever does not have enough power to supply extra speakers and that I should just get a new reciever ("head unit") and probably new speakers too if they are not Infinity brand. I may drop by the dealers to get some answers on this also, if I do I'll ask them about your question.
I believe the are actually 6 speakers total. 2 tweeters by drivers and passenger windows, 2 speakers in the front doors and 2 speakers in rear doors. I have not taken off the door panels to see for myself.
From what I hear, the rear speakers are coaxials which Dodge calls 2 speakers.
False advertising if you ask me.
I don't have any kind of service book so I know absolutely nothing about the wiring for the stereo.
Sorry I could not be of more help.
Perhaps your friend will have more insight to these systems.

I posted this in the Accessories forum and have not gotten a response yet.
I would like some opinions about intakes and throttle body spacers. I have a 01 QC 4.7 on order (should be in next week) and my wife thinks I am absolutely crazy for wanting to "mess" with it (I have all of you to thank for this). I have seen references to QuickD, Airaid, Intense Performance and K&N but not any mention about the spacers. I am currently leaning towards a QuickD, but would like to hear any of the ins and outs associated with any of the brands. Any input on the spacers would be appreciated too.

I have/had the same setup as you. I installed a non Infinity Chrysler am/fm CD radio in my truck. The radio came out of my 93 Dakota and I paid too much for when I bought the truck to leave it in when I sold it. I pulled out the factory four speakers and installed "8" oversized 6-1/2" speakers by Chrysler's definition or 4 oversized 6-1/2"coaxial speakers by most other definitions. Each speaker is rated at 100 watts and I have found that the system can't be listened to comfortably over about 1/3 volume. The sound is MUCH better than the factory speakers.
My question is WHY would you want to put a sub woofer inside your Quad Cab? You have bass and treble controls on the factory radio and with better speakers I would think this would be enough unless you need to have enough bass to vibrate all the screws loose from your dash! Besides there really isn't enough room for a CD changer in the Quad let alone a "bazooka" tube.Rick

I unfortunately live across the street from an ATM and hear those dang subwoofers when kids pull up to use the ATM-all-night-long - I could kill them all!!! (No offense Bob!)
As usual Rick, you've got the answer. I called the service tech at Dodge and he said (in a hushed tone) that I was better off putting in a whole new system instead of adding on, because the factory audio system is not an infinity system (can you say paper-mache), there are no extra wires for add'l speakers, and to install an infinity system would cost me over a grand! What did Bookitty say?? fuhghetahboutit!
I didn't have an Infinity system in my Quad and the speakers I installed used the factory wiring. I think the "standard" radio would be adaquate with upgrades speakers however I installed the CD player because 1) I had it 2) no one uses cassettes any more and 3) Napster (I burn CDRs for my daughter and we like to listen to books on CD when we travel). My total cost was about $150 for the 4 speakers. Rick
Some things to consider are:
1. if you use a throttle body spacer and plan to install an intake kit like the K&N Gen II FIP, make sure that when BOTH items are installed, they won't interfere with the hood -- ie. AirRaid told me that if I installed their TB Spacer with my K&N Gen II FIP on my 5.9L engine, the resulting height would not allow me to close my hood!
2. you might consider adding a catback and intake before doing the throttle body spacer. I believe the combination will give you more overall performance throughout your powerband than if you simply installed the throttle body spacer, which I understand only gives you performance off the line.

None of the "burned" CD's will play in my QC. (And, they skip badly on my home system). Only a few of the pre-recorded CD's won't play in my QC.
Going back to the dealer as soon as I get a day off. I'll keep you posted. (No pun intended).
P.S. I'm considering buying a home CD burner by Phillips; about 6 bills. Does anyone have any opinions or suggestions on a home burner???

tegwj: let me know how the Roll-N-Lock installation goes. I installed mine last week. Had to trim the "lip" from the eight clamps to allow adjustment of the side tracks. The truck went through a major rainstorm two days later and only about a cup of water got into the bed. Other than the clamp problem the cover has proven to be as advertised. Everything is either aluminum or stainless steel and the fit is great.
Rear axle offset: I did some measurements with a plumb bob with the truck leveled and the rear wheels removed. It appears to me that the springs are not properly positioned on the bushings. Realizing that a 3/4 inch offset correction only requires a 3/8 movement, I have not paid too much attention to it. As Bookitty says, I'm just driving it and enjoying it. It will be something I will eventually try to correct.
I would buy a new burner for the pc before buying a home unit,it's alot more flexible than a home unit, (about $75 for 4x4x24, $100 for 8x4x32, $130 for 12x8x32) www.pricewatch.com. I know bestbuy,circuit city,staples,officemax run deals on them too.
So...as long as NAPSTER doesnt shut its doors altogether, this, in my opinion is the way to go...
As soon as Alpine has a DIN and 1/2 model that will read MP3's with a dancing-light display like the CDA-D855 i have in the truck now, i will be buying it...
Eventually, i think this capability will be built-in to all units because of the popularity of MP3's

The reason I was looking for more bass is the current system kind of degrades the mid to high range when the bass is turned up. The system, IS REALLY NICE, I just wanted to tweak it a bit.
It needs more low frequency response. More of the low end BOOM BOOM.
Maybe replacement speakers with a better low range frequency response would help?

I know there is no room for a "bazooka tube", just curious if anyone had improved their system with a similar product or knows of a similar product which would fit and hook up to the existing connections.
Otherwise I'll have to get creative and tap into the speaker system with an additional amplifier in order to drive a sub woofer.

Now that I got that out, I have a question.
Who is the manfacturer of the RAZ stereo availabe as an option of the quad? If someone knows, I would appreaciate the answer as it would save me the trouble of tearing the dash apart to look at the unit in my truck.
You've been asking, so here it is:
To recap, I designed some steel brackets for the front of my 2001 QC that would accept standard tow hooks. They protrude through the front of the fascia just like Dodge intended. I finally got the brackets back from the machine shop that I hired to cut them.

As far as mounting to the cab mounts...I dont see a problem with it, that is how the mopar ones bolt on i think...Also the westins have diagonal brakets on the front and gusseted brakcets onthe back to stiffen it up and also to limit the amount of bending onthe cabmount bolts...
Ayriw----> Nice job on the brackets...If lateral stability is a concern for you for these brackets, youcould always weld some 1" wide x 1/4" Thick gussets on either or both side of the backets (if there is enough clearance where they mount)...But a really sharpe custom fab job...

Another alternative to mp3/cd is the mp3/smartcard. Rockford/Fosgate has a unit (Crutchfield) that works like a cd changer but you can put upto 8-64meg smartcards in it. From what I read, it is interchangable with the cd changer. And with smartcards, there is no moving parts.

I have the black Westin Nerf Bars as well. I have a 4x2 Quad Cab with the 255x65 tires - I think they give the truck a 'tuff' look and yes...they don't stick out too far as I have seen with others. With their location, they also help to prevent gravel, dirt from being thrown up.
I have stood on then and bounced up and down and could only feel them flexing very slightly at the rubber mounts.
1) Installation was pretty easy. I did it on my own, in the dark with a flashlight, in ~2.5 hours.
2) For all the warnings in the manual about making sure everything is lined up, my install didn't seem to require any significant tweaking.
3) The rail piece that attaches to the top of the tailgate goes in better if you remove the four black screw inserts. I took them out and patched the holes with gray electrical tape.
4) I don't know how easily the tailgate can be disassembled but I may look into replacing the self-tapping screws that hold that rail piece on with proper nuts, bolts, & lock washers. This will obviously require getting inside the tailgate.
5) Parts are all very well made, none of mine required any tweaking. I took care to make sure the clamp pieces didn't get cross-threaded, as they were snug and are made of aluminium.
6) Packaging could have been better-labeled. There are various shared components between the QC kit and the CC kit. The QC kit is #405, whereas the CC is 425. I was concerned I might have received some wrong pieces and there was no easy way to figure it out without unpacking everything. This of course makes it difficult to refuse delivery. I would have felt much better if each of the three boxes had "QC V405" stamped on the outside.
7) It definitely keeps most water out if the cover stays closed. If you open it and there's water pooled on top it will get in but that's hardly the cover's fault.
8) I may add some kind of light grease to the rails just to keep everything smooth over time.
9) The tie-down hooks at the cab end of the bed do not need to be removed for the installation but are nevertheless rather difficult to access. I would recommend getting some heavy nylon webbing and some beeners to make little extensions for them.
10) Definitely a good product and a good value. The local shop tried to charge me $850 + 2 hours labour for the package. I paid $695 delivered and installed it myself without difficulty. Dave's Tonneau Covers would earn my business again.
That's it. I'll possibly be able to get photos sometime this coming weekend but I'm traveling all week so not prior to that.
