    Hit the wrong key.

Guys, I ordered my truck with everything I thought I would need. QC, SLT, 4.7, 5 spd, 3.92 rear end, Heavy Service Group, Loaded inside. I did not order the Tow Haul Package because I thought it was too much for just a hitch. I totally blew off the fact that it would be wired to pull. Now I am on the ferg of buying a travel trailer and am wishing I had it. I have already got the "Reese" hitch. I was wanting to get the Part #'s for the relays and the pigtail that came in the glove box , if I were to order the towing package. Is there anyone that can help me?

    Frustrated,
    Don

My QC came with the P265/70R16 AT tires. (SLT Plus Decor option) Does any one know what the correct tire pressure is suppose to be? The sticker on the door is for the 15 tires.

    Thanks,

dpeppe, The dealer should have given you a Tire Inflation Pressures chart with your owner's manual. I think the form # is 81-316-0104.

tripping lizard. Installed the black step bars on my truck a couple of weeks ago. Look good, strong, and really very easy to install, don't waste the extra money most places want for putting them on. Took me about one and a half hours. I personally liked the black style, and the way they looked on the truck.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
Your dealer should be able to help you out with the hardware and wiring for the tow hitch.
While your there, have the axle fluids changed to synthetic fluid as stated in the owners manual.
    good luck,
    Bob

gator: Just got back from a run to New Mexico around Taos. Interesting country. I like the adobe look, but when they make Wal-Mart and McDonald's fake an adobe look, it just seems wrong. I think now that I can say I have seen the world's largest(Vinita, OK) and smallest golden arches (Taos). We Americanos brag on our cultural diversity and at the same time force entire communities to adopt a cultural lock-step look. We would have the tourists rolling in the streets if it weren't for the fact that their coutries are often worse about it.

quaddub: Been a Nascar fan from the late sixties on. Started as a Woods brothers fan in the heyday of the 21 Merc. Now I am a Jarrett fan. Somehow, it does seem right to see the Petty 43 on a Dodge again. BTW, real men don't do Lite. Now if you will excuse me, I have to get a diet coke.

As soon-to-be owners, we're looking for info on the options to cover the truck bed. We need a cover that's able to be removed (or mostly removed) to haul hay, etc. Also needs to be lockable. We like the idea of the roll-top, but are concerned about ice freezing in the track since we tend to get a lot of freezing rain. Anyone have experience with this?

We thank you all for a wealth of information that has greatly helped us in making our decision to purchase the Quad Cab.

Help !! I've seen a post on Weatherflectors that install in the window groove of the doors. I can't seem to re-locate that link. I've looked at jcwhitney.com per bobs5 .... guess I need a catalog?

    Go to http://www.weathertech.com or http://www.macneilauto.com/store/

Same company and website. This is a pretty good product, BTW. I like them more than the Ventvisors I had originally installed.

  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
J C Whitney does carry the weatherflectors. Seems the paper catalog shows more products than their website. The website does not even show the bedrug product which the catalog does.

I have the pace edwards roll top and it doesn't freeze in the tracks. It does however freeze in the lock. I put some graphite and WD40 and now it's great.

I have a 2000 quad cab 4X4, 4.7, auto, 3.55 rear and am getting 14.3 MPG ax on the road, 11.6 ax in the city. ticker said 14/18. So much for that. Thinking about changing out the 31x10.5R15LT tires for a set of 265-75R16LT 6 ply tires. They are a on aggressive tire unlike the original equipment. What are your ideas. BTW it has a hard tonneau cover.

I called the tracking number today and they said my Quad Cab was shipped on March 22. The order was placed on March 12th. When I called last week they told me it was not scheduled to be built until the second week of April but showed shipping on March 22nd. THey insisted today that it had been shipped. So I don't know how accurate this tracking really is. This seems pretty quick to me. Has anyone else run into this? I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see what he can find out.
  • okwildcatterokwildcatter Member Posts: 12
That sounds really fast. I ordered mine on Feb. 12, and its scheduled to arrive tommorrow. It shipped on March 20th. Hopefully they'll extend the rebate so you can save some cash.

I've gotten the same thing, I ordered on 12 Mar (DC actually had the order show up on the 13th) and was built the following week. I called DC and checked the status 3 times as follows.
1st call - very helpful stated truck scheduled to be built (3/19/01) scheduled ship date 3/22 also recieved VIN
2nd call (3/22) - not so helpful (lot's of attitude on other end of line, told me truck was in framing the day before, probably would not ship for at least 12 more days.
My dealer called me on 3/26 to tell me truck had shipped, so I had to call DC one last time.
3rd call - again very helpful, got all of the info on when truck actually shipped (3/23) and rail company, and rail car number. Currently it is in Ohio on it's way here to Alabama.

BTW, the rebate has been extended to 30 April, as per Daimler Chrysler, it's also here on Edmunds.

Thanks jeffghs & okwildcatter for the info. It is starting to appear that it depends on who answers your call when you call to get a status. When I asked the one I talked to today to give me my VIN number, he said he wasn't allowed to do that and would not give me any more information other than it was shipped on 3/22. Hopefully my salesman at the dealership can find out more than I was able to today.

    Wantone2,
My original order went in on 2/20 but the dealer discovered a week later that he ordered it without the limited slip. So he put another order in on 2/27. The original truck had an est. ship date of 3/5 and it arrived at the dealers' on 3/17. The second order had an est. ship date of 3/17 and it left on a rail on 3/19. The rail car hit Denver 3/25 and will await a truck ride down to the Springs. I am expecting a call from the dealer any day now. In both cases it will be about a 4 week process from order to delivery. Very impressive. BTW I got the VIN from the dealer on both trucks about a week after ordering. The folks at DC were very helpful and were able to give me the railroad and car number once it left the plant. From there I was able to follow the train on the railroads' web site. Pretty painless thus far.

Hope everything works out and you get your truck soon.

Folks, I have been"lurking" for a few months but my QC should be built this week and I am trying to add a few items to the checklist found in FAQ post #65. I guess I am getting the "spartan" version. I can be the baseline. Garnet SLT. 4x4. V6 - I have a weak neck & don't want to "gray out" due to excessive G forces. G suits can be so uncomfotable in the summertime. 5 SP - I like to "drive" and not "go for a ride". Besides, I have never owned an automatic, not sure how they work. I'll wait 'till they work the kinks out. Buckets, Standard Radio/Cass (it's coming out - got the Radio/CD from Crutchfield already) and sliding rear window. Also Tire & Handling as well as most of the power gizmos and fog lights.
In addition to Ram Checklist I know I have to check for:
    Hood Insulation
Slider Tint (it should be tinted)
    Door Fit & Finish
    Dipstick rubbing on hood
Power outlets. 1 on dash, 1 on console, 1 Cigar Lighter
Front Sagging, either left or right side (torsion bar adjust)
Console Light - Is it supposed to be there or not??? I know about the kleenex but I think 2 or 3 folks said their 2001 had a light.
Paint - check for baseballs, globs, runs & scratches on a sunny day.
Right Rear Tire extending 1/2" further out. Will enjoy watching dealer on this one! May get a few freebies as he will not want a 3.9, 5sp sitting on his lot.

I'd like to thank everyone for their insightful posts and the research they've contributed. I find this to be an exceptional resource and hopefully there will be no surprises when I pick it up in a week or two. I will probably be adding a BedRug, Westin Nerf Bars and an LS II tonneau.

Sorry to hear that your truck problems could only be solved with a buyback. Hey just think, you will get a brand spanking new truck.

electronic 4x4 system...I have had ZERO problems so far. Used 6 times this past winter.

skid plates...I go camping and fishing, so figured this would be good for me. Probably protects the underside from road debris as well.

oil change...the dealer has done this so far. It probably is more difficult to change the oil filter with the skid plate, but not impossible. Read through the posts as this has been covered.
    Good luck,
    Bob

Does anyone know if the seats in the quad are true leather? Or are they that vinyl covered crap . . . just wondering how I should care for them? Them seem to be real, but they're not as shiny as I would expect real leather to be??
Those skid plates are nice . . . they appear to be a graphite composite of some sort . . . look into the Fumoto drain plug if you don't want to take them off all the time to change the oil . . . I just installed it the other day and it seems to work well!

    Thanks
    Trips
  • namfflownamfflow Member Posts: 202
Yes, they are real leather. At least on the seating surfaces. This is standard practice these days on most vehicles. Now with leather, there are many grades and qualities so doon't be thinking that you are gonna get Jauguars connally leather in a Dakota. Not unless you want to raise the price another couple of grand.

FWIW, I have used Chrysler leather seats many times over the years and have never had any problems and I am a heavyweight.

If I'm reading Edmunds rebates/incentives listed for Dodge correctly, yes, they are extended to 4/30, BUT not on any Dakota 4X4 model at all!

    Could this be true?

Does Dodge feel they are moving enough 4x4s or matching what the other manufactures are doing?

My dealer has told me he want have a definitive answer re: the continuation of the current program till after 4/3....I hope I'm reading Edmunds listing wrong!

I ordered a 2001 AWD/AUTO/4.7/3.92/SPORT+ on 3/17, got a VON on 3/19, was currently in D status, will be calling today as I'm seeing some mags where it looks like the factory is taking only 10 days to build and ship, once a order goes in... won't make 4/3 delivery though...
  • namfflownamfflow Member Posts: 202
I also had questions about the rebate as it originally was to expire 4/3. I ordered my truck on 3/10 and expect it around mid April. My dealer told me the rebate applies to the order date. So If you ordered before 4/3 then the rebate applies. I questioned this as most rebates only apply on models on the lot. My dealer said it applies to custome orders also provided you order before the cutoff date.
  • okwildcatterokwildcatter Member Posts: 12
    Macey:

Check out Dodge's web site, they list the Dakota with the 2000$ rebate through April 30th, with no exception for 4X4. You should be fine on that count. Beware a quick ship though, my order went in Feb 12th, and should be delivered today or tomorrow. It sat in D-1 status (the next one past D status) for over a month! I think the timing of your order determines how quickly it ships (Dodge isn't going to send a one vehicle shipment your way; they'll wait until they have enough vehicles to make it economical). My order probably was one of the first to make a shipment order, while some other people on the board lucked out and had their truck complete a shipment and send it on its way.

    Namfflow:

How much do you trust your dealer? If you have it in writing that they will preserve the rebate on the date of order, then everyone in the country should flock to such a customer oriented dealer. I have been told repeatedly that the rebate is good upon the delivery date only - no exceptions. If you don't have it in writing, see if they will put in on paper and let us know. Also, don't let them put a weasel clause in, i.e. contigent upon Chrysler price increase, etc. Good luck.

  • mrnramrnra Member Posts: 7
The rebate is locked in at the time of order and it applies to special ordered vehicles as well as the ones on the lot so the dealer told you correctly. The rebate can not go down once you place your order but it can go up depending on if the incentive goes up.
  • mrnramrnra Member Posts: 7
My first question is possible to answer and it is the following: Does anyone know what the best quality bed mounted small tool box available out there that mounts along the side of the bed behind the wheel well. I know Delta makes one but I don't know if there are other choices. The 2nd question probably has no answer but I will ask it anyhow. Has anyone tried to lower the drivers seat on the split bench so that a person can see out better with the Dakota's low windshield and heavily padded headliner? Any ideas other than an operation to lower my eyeballs would be appreciated. I blame this discussion board because I read another person's complaint regarding this otherwise I would probably be content. Thanks

would you mind posting info on how you went about getting d/c to buy back your truck.i know different states have diff rules but i think still would be interested to read the process you went through? are they making you pay any usage fee for the time u have had the use of the truck or for mileage?

I got a callback from DC (I found a great employee to work with re: my order, he gave me his extension so I could only work exclusivly with him, and he returns voicemail msgs)

Their corporate web site does indeed show the $2000 rebate has been extended to 4/30/01, no limitations on 4x2, 4x4, etc, for all Dakota models.

Re: qualifying for the rebate, the corporate statement on this is: Must take delivery by 4/30
(my dealer seems to be flexible on this, if I don't get the rebate, I don't want the truck, hopefully the 4/30 date doesn't come into play here (I used a credit card for my down payment, so I don't expect any dealer games))

My QC which was placed in the ordering system on 3/19, is now in D1 status with a estimated build date of 4/10, ship date of 4/11-4/12. I was told it could take 8 business days more or less to reach the dealer. Using 4/12 as a ship date, that puts the truck at my dealer on 4/24, with 4 extra business days to go.

At this moment, not the 10 day ship time from a order being placed and a truck being shipped, as noted in a couple of past posts, yet, it is looking good for a delivery date in time to 'qualify' for the rebate...yes!

Hello All. This is my first posting. I find this stuff very interesting and informative. I need help as to what is a fair purchase price. I buying a quad 4x4, 4.7v8, auto, sport plus pkg, par convience pkg, hd service kit and floor mats. Dealer giving me the 2k rebate and $500 farm rebate. Is $22.3k total fair?? Please any and all help appreciated.

    Hi--
Did you bookmark post that dealt with sagging right or left side? I'm interested in seeing it, and to know why it's a torsion bar issue. I've been chasing it from a spring and shock perspective(Mine sits about .5" higher on right [12mm]).
Thanks--good luck on your delivery--looks like you've done your homework.
  • iowabigguyiowabigguy Member Posts: 552
"by gtownguy, I need help as to what is a fair purchase price."

Take the MSRP and subtract 9% from this price. Subtract the rebate and Farm Bureau from the result and this should give you a good starting price. So if your MSRP was $27,252 or higher it seems like a fair price to me. Rick

well i got the d/c rep involved the 3rd time in the shop and told them i wasnt interested in a buyback because i wanted my truck so just fix it. well after the 6th time in for the rear end and other problems i called the rep again and he was no longer with d/c so i asked for his replacement.

the new guy looked up my record and said normally you are supposed to put in writting this type of request and send it into d/c but since its noted that i have been very understanding and have gone out of my way to try and remedy this problem with lots of patience that he would cut corners and buy it back without the paperwork to get the paperwork going. the deals on the table are as follows -

i can get another d/c product and they will charge me .15 per mile x 24000 miles = $3600.00 then they will buy the truck from me for what i paid including all fees and taxes at about 25,000.00 and the payoff is 18,000.00 which means they will then cut me a check for 3400.00 to put down on the new d/c vehicle. now when i choose the d/c vehicle i want i also have to pay the msrp difference between my truck and the new one if the new one is higher. then i can take the 3400.00 they gave me and use as a down payment on it. the numbers came out like this in the end on this one.

my truck payment is about 500.00, doing this buyback makes my payment over the last 14 months seem like 540.00 so i end up paying an extra 40.00 or so a month for the last 14 months and i get a new car out of it.

now if i dont buy a d/c vehicle which i am considering the new toyota double cab since this is my 2nd bad dakota in a row.

the deal is as follows but is still under negotiation -

i can get out of my truck and walk away and they will charge me .18 per mile x 24000 miles = $4320.00.00 then they will buy the truck from me for what i paid including all fees and taxes at about 25,000.00 and the payoff is 18,000.00 which means they will then cut me a check for 2680.00 and i walk away to buy the toyota and do my best deal and use that money for a down payment.

now the numbers came out about 550.00 a month over ths last 14 months instead of 500.00

all above are rough estimates and me trying to explain by typing instead of talking, but i will do one of these but just not sure which one yet. so put your calculators away guys LOL....

I have already started dealing with my dealer that just so happens to be a dodge and toyota dealer and he is going to let me drive one of the new 2001 dakota demos for a few days and see if i like it and he is also going to let me drive the toyota double cab demo this weekend and let me hook up my boat and tow it around, launch it and go into the hills and see how it does and if see ill be happy with it. they have been very helpfull since day one and i really am happy with whats going on. i am not happy with the truck but im happy with the way d/c and the 2 dealers i have delt with have treated me.

thats it in a nutshell. sorry so long but its slickwilliedj's fault, he made me do it LOL....

    good luck all,

    robert

Here is my update on the rear end whine my 00 QC has had since day 1. At about 9300 miles my dealer service ordered ring and pinion set. Checked setup of gears 1st, not set up right and could not set up to specs. Installed new parts and still would not set up. Removed new parts, put back together, and ordered complete new rear end with housing. Service manager thinks there is a good possibility that the transport vehicle may have bent one of the axle tubes when cinching down the truck. I hadn't thought of that. Anyway, will post results when new butt is installed. Thanks for listining, Stnick.

I notice several postings concerning the rebates. When I ordered my Quad Cab on March 12th, I had asked several dealers if the rebate would be from the date I ordered or the date I took delivery and I got a different reply from each dealer. I called the Customer Support number and they gave me an 800 # to call to the group that handles the rebates and they told me the rebate would be honored from the date I ordered my truck and if the rebate happened to be greater on the date I took delivery I would get whichever was best. I have looked everywhere for this 800 number but can't find it. But the customer support number at WWW.4adodge will give you the number to call to verify this. I can't believe all dealers don't know this, some of them still play their little games.

Having put 9,000 miles on in three months of 01 Quad ownership, I am beginning to check things out closer. I have noticed cold air coming in above the hand brake - not a lot, but it is there. Anyone else have experience with air leaks in the under dash area? How did the dealer repair go? Other problems: I noticed if I just touch the ignition key while the truck is running, the radio cuts out. Final thing is a slight vibration when braking - could it be warped rotors?

    Thanks!

Appreciate the info from ayrow, nato1 & badassbob regarding quality of CD & burners. During the past week we spent about 8 or 9 steady hours of driving in the Q/C and had plenty of time to experiment with the CD player. These are the tests I ran before and during the drive and my conclusions:

First I took the computer burned CDs (I am using the PNY brand, same as nato1) and tried them in my home CD player. They worked fine. Second I tried them in my wife's Toyota CD player. Again they worked fine.

Next we took several CDs that were purchased with the music already professionally done. These had worked well in both the home and Toyota CD players. They skipped quite badly in the Dakota CD player.

In addition to skipping, both computer generated and over-the-counter CDs caused Error messages in the Dakota. Although the CD player in the Dakota may play some CDs for a short period of time, as it warms up, it eventually will not play at all.

Based on these tests, I conclude that computer generated CDs are not the problem. I also believe that heat generated in the CD player is a factor.

I now have an appointment at the dealers service dept. on Monday April 2. I anticipate that the CD player will be replaced, but will post the results of this visit to the Dodge dealer after the appointment.

On another subject, gunnytom reported poor gas mileage on post 2518. I can report that with just over 1100 miles on my Q/C with 4.7L auto 4x4 it has averaged 16.8 MPG. This was mostly highway driving at about 65 MPH.

I installed the step bars today . . . it was easy and the appear to be rather durable . . . thanks for the advice!
One question though . . . how important is it to get the 55lbs of torque applied to the body mounts? . . . I don't think my torque wrench is that accurate . . . should I have my dodge dealer check them???

Hey, everyone that has the infamous rear axle offset problem, please go read the Rear Axle Survey thread that Mopar_Maniac has posted over on MoparChat.com and then e-mail your VIN number to him so that he can have more evidence to prove to his Chrysler management that these aren't isolated cases. I think he's our best hope for getting Dodge to admit that this is a chronic problem that needs to be fixed.

    Hello everyone,
Today I'll be picking up my 01' QC (ordered 2/26). I got a black Sport with all the options except leather and tow pkg.
I've never owned a Dodge before (I was "brought up" on Chevys so Dad's not sure what to think) so I'm a little nervous about long term quality... but no one else makes a truck like this, and it looks just killer.
My question... I'd like to add a wood applique to the center trim around the stereo. Mopar has one that covers the whole dash area, and I've seen a couple versions online, but there are all PSA (stick on) "sheet" types. Has anyone ever put one of these on or seen one? Seems like it would look cheap, and be difficult to apply. I'd prefer a molded unit, but I haven't been able to find one...

Great message board, and thanks for any info...

    Ryan

ps - I get to break her in for one of the key reasons I bought her - tailgating at exhibiton opener at PNC Park (in Pittsburgh) ho-ray!

Ok, a DC rep told me in order to get the $2000 rebate, I must take delivery by 4/30.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday, he brought up the subject of rebates, and I like his view much better:

As long as a order is placed before 4/30 (or 4/3), you will get the rebate, regardless of when the truck comes in. If the rebate is higher upon delivery, you get the higher amount, if lower, you get the $2000...this is cool as it jives with what a few other posts have said

Thanks (and subject closed, at least for me)

My truck was in D1 status as of yesterday 3/28, lets see if the estimated build date of 4/10 can get speeded up...

I bought a Toyota 4 Runner which didn't originally have the wood dash. The wood dash that was added was the stick on kind. It looks good and I have had the vehicle about a year without any problems with the stick on coming loose. I am considering doing the same thing as rck329 on my 2001 QC. Another site that has the wood dashes is www.exoticwooddash.com

I'm sorry, I did not note which posts referred to the "sagging" front end. I have read through all the Quad Cab, FAQ, Accessories and Maintenance posts trying to get a feeling on what to check for. I think there were 3 posts where the passenger side was lower and one where the driver side was lower. There was also info that the torsion bar adjust only applies to 4x4 as 4x2 does not have it.
Reading through all these posts has been real enlightening. I feel I have met many new friends who would go out of their way to provide accurate information. We may not like what we hear sometimes but there is very little wrong info. That is best left up to the dealer. They're good at it.
