Problems with 2011 Regal emergency brake engaging but not disengaging in the heat?

My dad has a 2011 Regal that, if left outside in the driveway or in a parking lot the emergency brake engages and will not disengage. Please tell me if anyone has ever experienced this and if there is a fix for it? He has taken to the dealer and they told him there's s nothing they can do. Service history is perfect (my dad takes CARE of his cars). Please advise?

    That’s weird. Usually rust will cause a parking brake to stick in the engaged position. More strange is why the dealer couldn’t help. Try spraying some lubricant on the cable. Couldn’t hurt.

    Take a good look at the cables and calipers. Look at the position of the arm that the cable pulls when the brake is released. You should see the arm contacting a raised portion on the caliper to stop it's movement. Have someone apply the parking brake and note how far the arms rotate. Now have them release the brake and watch to see if the arms move back to the stops. At this point if one or both of them stick in the applied position try pushing the arms back to the rest position to disengage the brakes. If you watch the cables forward of that you should be able to see if any are sticking. Get familiar with how this works and then when it sticks you should be able to identify what is wrong.

    There was a time that lubricating the cables would help but these cables have a multilayer nylon inner liner so the lubricant wont penetrate to the cable.
