I live in VT. It has been around 45-50 in the mornings. My truck only has 1550 miles. From what everyone is saying the computer needs to learn more, but then again some people are having it at over 8000 miles? Seems like a long time to learn that when the motor is cold it should idle up. Keep me informed when the flash comes out.

2nd note: I do a lot of short trip driveing and some "accelerated" driveing because I am a Vol. Firefighter. I am getting around 14 miles per gallon, never better than 15.5 when I did a bunch of 60mph interstate driving. This seems low, but is it because I only have 1500 miles and need more breaking in or because of my driving style? Will it get better as it learns? Thanks

my salesman told me about the change so i looked and didnt notice it until just after 4k, like around 4100 or so and mine dropped from about 600 rpm to 500 vibrating rpms without the air. i talked to my dc rep that helped me with my rear end troubles (no jokes) and he said they were loooing into a flash to bump it back up, he said they have had a few complaints.
  • hennehenne Member Posts: 407
dont know about the roadmasters but i got the hellwig helper springs LP-15 for about 100.00 http://www.hellwig.net and it helps reduce squat alot on my truck and it even lifted me up almost 2 inches in the rear and that helped with towing heavy loads and getting them over a sharp curb or sttp driveway, good clearance (you can adjust the amount of help) i have it tightend all the way and it stiffened up my ride some which i kinda liked, the truck just rides so darn smooth, its alittle more like a truck now but just on the big bumps, still rides sweet and the wife cant really tell the difference but when im towing the squat is alot less and the ride is more stable when towing or hauling.

    good luck,
    robert

You're a pretty easy target when you talk about rear end troubles and then say that you're bumping into a flasher in the loo or something? 'Loooing?' :-O
I know, I know... long night, etc. - just kidding. I need sleep. Okey, dokey.

My '00 Quad, 4.7,auto, 6400 miles, has developed a slight, high pitched whirring noise from the left front noticable when slowing down as if approaching a light. Will have the dealer check it next oil change and report back

HENNE -- Thanks for the info! I'll check out the Hellwig setup before making any moves. ANYTHING to avoid the expense and hassle of removing the factory hitch and installing a load-equalizer!

We both live in Vermont... I have had my 2000 Dak since 10/29/99. (Ordered 10/01/99)

I spent virtually all of last winter with the "idle hunting while rolling" problem. (Most evident on the manual xmission)I am the one that mentioned the 8K mile mark as noting the idle had improved. This was not sudden... I just noted that the "hunting" had all but vanished... But the temps are getting colder and we shall see...

With 1550 miles on your rig, you have not even changed the break-in oil yet. Be patient it takes time for the 4.7L to "loosen up" Are you following the manual's recommend break-in procedures ("Occasional FULL-THROTTLE acceleration")

I highly recommend you consider NON-dino oil (Any FULL synthetic) The froth/emulsion problem will be much less.
    Here is URL to the TSB and photos of the problem;

I've got 5300 miles on my 4.7L 5spd and my idle is still 600-625 rpm. Is this just a problem with the trucks with the California emissions? Don't the NE states have the same emissions package as the California trucks? Our temps in Iowa have not dropped very low yet but I've had some mid 40s mornings and haven't experienced any idle anomolies yet. Rick

really, my 2000, 4.7, auto with 3.92 and full towing package temps just in the middle of the 2 in 210, but when im towing its between the 1 and the 0 on 210. when i stop for gas when towing or anything and get back in the truck temp is just above the 0 on 210 then when coolant starts flowing it cools right back down again.

truck runs and tow great, you must have had something loose in your cooling system or your thermostat isnt working.

    good luck,

Hey guys (or gals), thanks for the info about the supposed (?) breakin. Up here north of Toronto, the temperatures are about 50 degrees now during the day, cool in the mornings and guess what - the idle is at about 600 rpm when the engine is warm and no rough idle or stalling . It seems that because I received my truck in January last year, it took a few months to get warm, with no problem during that time. Once the temperature rose up, I started to have the problem with rough idle and stalling. Now that it's back to cooler days and nights, everything is OK. I am beginning to wonder if their software is incapable of learning the change of seasons ! As a programmer by profession, someone didn't do a proper walkthrough of their code and let this slip by. The other's seem to have the same problem after about 4 - 5000 miles which about the time it takes for a seasonal change. I'll pass this along to DC and see if it sounds logical. In the meantime, I'm still waiting for the flash.
To jps3 - hope this helps (note #661).
everyone have a good day, eh.

    #178 of 181: 4.7L auto tranny recall (bpeebles) Sun 17 Sep '00 (08:30 AM)
Here is an append from another forum that I
thought people would want to know about.

    #181 of 181: Recall 4.7 w/Auto Tranny (bpmanning)
    Sun 17 Sep '00 (05:03 AM)

I just wanted to let veryone know. I had my first
oil change on Friday at my local Dodge Dealership.
Their has been a recall issued for the 4.7 w Auto
Tranny. Recall #890. They will shorten your auto
tranny overflow tube. I just thought I would let
    everyone know about it.

since mine is still at the dealer to get fixed, i plan on calling in the morning to get the dealer confirmation. bpeebles is normally right on top of all of this stuff, or andy jordan too....

henne: thanks for your fast response, and it took me since 5a.m. this morning as i woke to find out if my QC nightmare was over until the time it was posted around noon. i am just hoping that it is just a stuck thermostat. at least that is my un-professional opinion.
    thank you all.

Hello, my 2 cents worth,at 4100 miles 00 4.7 auto 3.55, no noticeable change in rpm, even now as temps here in Nebraska have FINALLY cooled some mornings, low to mid 40's. Also, milage stays between 16.2 to 17.5 all around. Rear end howl as reported here last week, went to dealer, test drove, heard noise between 45 to 55 light throttle only, and they want to see what it sounds like with about another 5000 miles on it, then if worse will change out ring and pinion. Later..

Well funny this should come up - I have had some long journeys stuck in traffic lately, hot weather a/c on etc and I have never seen the need le edge past vertical (marked as a 100 here in Canada, sounds like its 210 in US - 100 = 212)

Ontarioguy1 - where abouts North of Toronto?

    Sarge, sounds like an awesome truck, and you certainly did the homework. Someday in the future, some of these automobile dealerships and the people who sell for them may begin to realize that they are doing business with an educated, informed and very mobile customer base. Thanks to the Internet and all that it offers, the availability of almost any product and/or information therein is but a "click" away. I assume that you are a law enforcement officer, so I will pose the following quiz question;

"How many cops does it take to throw a car salesman down the station house stairs?"

    "None Your Honor, he fell!"

  • hennehenne Member Posts: 407
yes, 210 is straight up and mine never gets straight up usless im towing even when i was in the mississippi heat, waiting for almost an hour for a wreck to be cleared. the temp was right at 100f and the a/c was kicking and it never got past the 2 on 210.

p.s. glad to see you back, your insight was truly missed, i know im late with this but been getting settled in my new home and starting all over, self employed in a new city, gotta beat the streets to get new clients.

    again, glad your back!

I have to say the dealer I was working with was, so far, very good, but I will withhold full praise until I get my truck. To your question. I paid invoice, plus Uncle Sam, Tags, minus $500 For the Farm Bureau. before all +/-'s the invoice was $25,556. So as not to clog up the board, If you would like a breakdown of each option cost, contact me at the address in my profile or post your address and I will send you the info.

hey guys - getting closer to Quad delivery date and I want to get my bedliner needs in order, here. (my girlfriend says the same thing to me all the time :) anyways - I have 2 Line-X dealers/installers available in the LA/Orange County area. Bedliners Plus in Irvine and Valley Line-X in North Hollywood. Can anybody vouch for these guys' work? Or recommend somebody solid in the LA/Orange County area. From what I've read on other posts, it usually only takes a few hours to spray-on at the most and price is between 3-400 bucks. Not sure about dealer and/or manufacturer warranty. Thanks, as always.

My Quad appears to also be sagging 1" on the front passenger side. Post 339 states you had the same problem. Did you ever get an answer as to why?

    Fat_Fenders

The popping sound you described I've heard a few times when turning left while hitting a dip at a greater than slow speed. Do you think these two problems could be related? They are on the same side. I will be bringing it in this week for another alignment, had one done but the steering wheel is still off slightly, however it tracks better. Maybe these are all related.

Just wanted to thank all for the help on tinted back window. Must order defroster or slider to get it.My new Quad came in 30 days after order was placed-clear glass in rear had fax dealer sent me telling me that all rear glass would be tinted now waiting on them to decide what they want to do to keep there word on glass being tinted.

On that overheating thing: I had to change my relay under the hood 3 times, and then finally figured out the extra duty (electric) cooling fan was fried (W TX heat I guess). Fan motor was actually 'fused.'

Oh, and last I heard, tpmiller1 (Tim) was going on some 'junket' to the Bahamas or something... ;-)=
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Jack, under statute 2000.QC of the Bahama Code of Justice, a prisoner may petition the court to allow another party to serve all of or part of their sentence. To do so, they must remunerate the substitute prisoner. Now let's see, Tim did need some money to purchase a new lama. I wonder...?

I do not know how accurate these prices are but it seems that KBB has the prices for the 2001 Dakota Quad Cabs. (for GA anyway)

    www.kbb.com
You have to go to "New Car Pricing", enter a zip code and click "continue". Then "Pickup Trucks" is selectable. You'll know where to go from there.

To update everyone on the popping noise I had...

I wanted to wait until I was sure, but the service department seems to have found it after the third visit and it was NOT a torsion bar noise.

On my 2001 4x4 Quad, they needed to remove the front, inner fender where a "front fender to cab" mounting bolt had not been tightened adequately. Since tightening, for the last two weeks, everything is quiet. :-)

Hope this helps as it's one more place to look and it wasn't a body mount either.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT ORLANDO DAA AND SOUTH FLORIDA PPA.NEVER HEARD OF THOSE CHG BEFORE.LETS BOTH HOPE THERE NOT ADDTIONAL PROFIT MAKERS!
  • surfzupsurfzup Member Posts: 7
I believe that these two items, which normally show up on bottom of invoice, are local advertising charges, hence Sgt. Jeep's "South Florida" and "Orlando" designation for these items. See Edmunds response to these fees in link below. They recommend not paying full amount of advertising fees unless its "make or break" for deal and dependending on how good a deal you got.

thanks looks like additional profit to me. i won't pay it. but sjeep did just hope he knows what the charges are.
  • lmeyer1lmeyer1 Member Posts: 215
You can certainly negotiate these, but they are actually on the factory invoice, meaning that your dealer will pay them to DC whether or not he collects them from you.

In other words, unlike the infamous "Dealer Prep" fees, this isn't something the dealer gratuitously adds on to the price of the car as pure profit. Instead, it's part of the dealer's cost of acquiring the car.

So, for example, if you negotiate a deal to pay invoice, the dealer's profit equals the holdback (assuming no factory to dealer incentives), not the holdback plus the ad fees.

If you negotiate a deal to pay invoice less the ad fees, then your dealer's profit will equal the holdback less the ad fees (again, assuming no factory to dealer incentives).

    Hope this helps.

I now there is a $500 dealer incentive and edmunds says another $500 rebate on 2001 Quad Cab. Does anyone know for sure and should I be able to get the incentive. My dealer has agreed to sell for invoice but says my chances of getting the incentive are slim and none. Maybe I just need to be assertive.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
Looks like a $750 rebate on the 2000 Quads, and $500 in dealer incentives on the 2001 Quads. I'd guess the $750 would be easy - if you can find an 00 you like, but the dealer incentives, this early in the model year, will likely be 'tough' at best.

I'm getting ready to go in and place my order for a 2001 QC. I have found a dealer that will order it for $100 over invoice, which I feel is a great deal.
    My main question is this:
How much $ are the fees & taxes going to run me?
I know what the local tax rate is, but what else am I looking at?

I'm planning to pay cash for this, so I need to have a basic idea how much I will need.

I've figured that the truck I am planning on ordering will run me around 27k.

Any info will be helpfull. The last time I bought a car was in 1994 & I have little memory of the whole affair, my CU handled all the financial stuff then.

Ok, I know I'm not the Normal buyer, but I hate Tinted Windows.

My dealer is checking now and seeing if the 2001 Quad Cab can be ordered without Tinted Windows.
When I ordered my wife's Grand Cherokee, I had to order bottom of line unit (no tint) and add the items I wanted.

Has anyone ordered or tried to order one without Tinted Windows??????

boo-K - regarding the farm bureau discount. I joined with the California Bureau on 7/31/00. My Dak should arrive with the next week or two. About this "discount coupon" I did not receive one, although I told the gal in memberships I was buying a Dodge vehicle. She said all I needed was my membership card. Is there some special "500" off coupon I need? Or is the the membership card enough. I want to have ALL my ducks in a row when I go in to pay and pick up the vehicle as I'm doing a cash deal. Thanks in advance.

    Dave.
  • astaasta Member Posts: 122
this may be jumping the gun. But, I'm having second thoughts about the bodyside molding. If it arrives and I don't like the looks of the quad with the molding (no idea what color the molding will be) has anyone taken that stuff off before? Any tips to avoid discoloration or damage to the paint. I assume it's just plastic (molded rubber?) attached with some hot-glue applicator. Any hints out there??? thanks.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Asta, the PA bureau sent me a coupon to be filled out by the dealer with membership number, name and VIN. Call your dealer, explain that you are a member (assuming your deal is solidified) and ask them what you need to bring with you. Try to make them discount the $500.00 before the vehicle is taxed.

Thanks for the info about the incentive and farm bureau but I need to dump my '98 Dakota before I hit 50k miles or I'm affraid I want get anything for it. Already taking a hit as it is from Carmax. Here is where I stand. Gave dealer $500. check so he would have 2001 Quad I want shiped from Virginia Beach to Baltimore. I'm getting truck for invoice minus a few bucks (I got a little of the incentive) to round the deal down to the nearest 100 :þ. Hopfully I will have all my ducks in a row and be able to drive truck home this Saturday. If anyone wants more info (#'s break down or whatever) post it or email me.
  • astaasta Member Posts: 122
called up my local farm bureau and I do indeed need the coupon to bring to the dealership. They're mailing it to me. Gal in FB office wasn't "positive" that the 5 bills comes off pre-tax purchase price or not. She said talk to the dealer! (gee, wonder what he'll say) anyways, thanks again. I might walked in there with just the membership card and been up that ol' creek without a Dodge...

Asta, the body side molding is black and is stuck on with double sided tape. Also someone posted a question about the body side molding for the Durango on the Quad Cab. Front door is perfect and the rear door molding is about an inch and a half short.

I would like to know where I can find info on the $500.00 dealer incentive that is on the 2001's. Thanks would like to know when this went into effect and for how long.
  • moparpower1moparpower1 Member Posts: 14
rear window comes clear if you don't get slider or the defroster in it as I was told mine would be tinted if just got regular back glass-it came in clear so now dealer is paying to have it tinted other wise I told him I would not take the truck I had ordered as I told salesman that I wanted tinted glass no matter what I would have to order to get it.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Dave, it may depend how your state tax laws are structured. For instance in some states taxable items in a grocery store are taxed on the selling price prior to the coupon. Some states allow the discount to be taken prior to taxing it. I actually told the young lady who processed my sale that it comes off before taxes. In PA that's worth $30.00. I did say it with authority rather than asking a question (as in "by the way, you know that the $500.00 comes off the price of the vehicle, and tax is applied to the "net" value"). Correct or not, they did it that way. Good luck, and I'm glad you were able to have your question answered.

You should be able to find the incentives listed on this site - look on the main page of Edmunds, and click the blue link on incentives down on the bottom left center of the page to follow...

asta / sorcerer - say, if ya'll have that kinda change layin' round the ol barn, and what with oil prices in the 30's, and nat. gas goin fer a fiver, well... ;->
  • towcrazy2towcrazy2 Member Posts: 337
Regarding the transplant of color-keyed Durango side moldings to the Quad, there should be no problem provided you've got access to a power miter with trim blade.

Durango fronts will fit the QC. Durango rears are too short... No sweat. Since the moldings are ordered in sets of two (either front or rear), simply order two sets of front moldings and do the miter number on the squared end of one set.
