They seem not to know that. If we know more than they do, how accurate could that report be?

Usually if you use 5 quarts you can get the job done on both front and rear. We buy a 4quart jug for the front and 2 quarts for the rear (usually have most of the 2nd one left over) So yeah 6 quarts is right on the money for a DIY project.
On the AT i've been getting about 4.5-5quarts out of the pan when doing a drain-fill.

Waiting for Subaru to build its version of a Falcon XR6? Well you won’t have to wait too much longer. The Legacy 3.0R, powered by the same 182kW 3.0 litre boxer six as the newly arrived Outback, has just gone on sale in Europe, and is expected to arrive in New Zealand showrooms in April. However, those wanting a manual gearbox will have to wait a bit longer, as three-pedal versions of the 3.0R won’t arrive until 2005. A five-speed automatic gearbox will be the only transmission choice in the interim.
Given that the 3.0R automatic version of the Outback sells for $59,990, and Subaru usually charges a $2000 premium for the higher-riding large Subaru, we’d expect the Legacy 3.0R to cost $57,990 in automatic form. The car uses a similar chassis set-up to the turbocharged Legacy GT, with quality Bilstein dampers, 215/45ZR17 tyres and a lower ride height.
Brit journos have been fulsome in their praise of the newest Legacy, with one comparing it to the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, and hailing it as “the best-balanced car in its class”.
So it sounds like an H-6 with a manual tranny may be in the works, but arriving late (as in a year or so)

Job outlook for early '04 not very promising
By Max Showalter, Journal and Courier
... Employment levels will increase during the first quarter of the new year at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., which has issued recall notices to some associates who were laid off from their jobs earlier in the year.
"SIA is very pleased to be recalling an additional 103 associates in preparation for the launch of our exciting new model Subaru Legacy in MARCH OF 2004," said Tom Easterday, vice president of human resources and corporate affairs at the Lafayette plant.
The workers will return in January and February. ...

I guess training won't take 2 full months, so maybe it'll be here sooner than we thought.

very confused as to whether to pick legacy turbo or OB H6............never confused before since subaru never offered choices like these
Let's toss in the B9 Scrambler just for good measure. My Miata needs a new top, that's $800 or so I didn't really want to spend.

If I buy a new Legacy though, I'd hope to keep it that long.

I had my Escort for 7 years, the Forester for a little over 5. I plan to keep it until the 7 seater comes out (so I can at least see it), which works out to about 7 years.
Wife's first new car was her 626, which she also kept for 7 years. Her Legacy has a 7/100 warranty, so the plan is...you guessed it, 7 years.
Guess that's our cycle.

Then, get the 7-seater to replace my 02 MPV(wasted my money on this)
It may depend on what we get. If we get an XT, then sure, I'll give her up.
But if we get a 2005 Legacy or Outback, I may convince my wife to trade in her car. It's worth more, and I'm a lot more attached to Sandy than she is to Lucky.
The big question is what if we get the 7 seater? That would be the weekend car, so whichever one we kept would be my wife's car to commute with. So I'd have to give her Sandy, or sell it, either way she would not be my primary vehicle any longer. :-(

The turbo 2.5 still pulls hard. I can't wait to see what they really do!
H6 can't match that peak power but I bet it'll be smooth and quiet, with good throttle response. It might be a better match for the automatic.

Outback does pay the bills, but it already has the public's attention. I'm sure it'll be marketed heavily.
Maybe they chose to debut the Legacy to get the attention of the media, which prefers the sportiest models?

Think I should be a spokesperson? LOL!

My goodness, I need to start collecting more pennies...

Beanboy I know what you mean. I'm just waiting until the end of the year for mine or very early next year. Very similar reason for me wanting one.
I know mine will be turned into a monster of a machine though.
I'm right there with you Seth and Brian. I can hardly wait for my Turbo Legacy Wagon. I've even got all my pennies saved up. I think I'll be going for a little more plush than Seth (leather, that gorgeous huge moonroof, Macintosh audio...). I do hope he's willing to share his mod path though as I might be up for that a few years down the road. ;-)
