Have a strong feeling many more exiciting models/variations to come to US as well.

they are desparate to achieve 250k goal.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's incredible how many variations they have given the market share of 1.1%.

As an example, I pointed out to Bob how the Outback has FOUR different steering wheels. This is one Subaru model, 4!

Four? Is that counting the variations in buttons (XT vs. VDC)?

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
No, make that 5. Base Legacy gets vinyl. LTD gets leather. Then there is perforated leather on the upgraded engines, and wood on the Bean. Then add the variations for the buttons on the wheel itself.

Hilarious. You can tell the model just by looking at the steering wheel!

Example: non-perforated leather, audio buttons --> base engine Limited!

Funny to see how the H6 models in Canada are actually cheaper than the XT.

The OB link in Edmund's shows the dual tailpipes with chrome. I thought the OB didn't get the chrome treatment.

Interesting comment on the msn.com review about it being a truck. I guess Subaru did more than change the EPA classification.

MSN has some mistakes, they still list the 165hp engine (unless they mean Baja, but it's not listed).

They are also a year early on the date of the OB intro and OBS intro.

Actually, what's strange is they include the Outback Sport in their pricing...strange.

But the dual exhuast chrome tip is from Subaru themselves !!!!!!!!!
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Very nice photos. The OBXT looks better than the GT, but I want the performance of the GT!

    Found this over at nabisco:

Halifax is the name that was given at the national meeting two weeks ago. There was also a short video of the mule in testing and digital images of the final design.

BTW- It was also mentioned it would only have the 250hp H6 for the first year and a turbo H6 option for MY07. Pricing has not yet been officially announced but it's expected to start at $33k.

It's sure going to be interesting to see what Subaru provides in the way of features and performance for $40,000. This is MDX territory, which is well beyond what I am used to expecting when I think of Subaru. No disrespect intended.

This is new groudn for Subaru, but if they do it correctly, I feel they can pull it off. Many people were skeptical of Toyota and Honda when they moved upmarket in their luxo brands. The quality is there, now for the hard part - creating demand.
  • rcf8000rcf8000 Member Posts: 619
I think it is significant that Honda and Toyota and Nissan all created new brands when they went upscale.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
Two of them had extremely good sales volume when they did it, too. Coincidence that it is tied to the success of their luxury lines?

    I think not.

Subaru still needs to push upward where margins are wider. You are correct, Subaru does not have the volume as of now, but they are planning to create moe demand at least. We only can wait and see...

Maybe the new design branding in the B11S and B9 concepts will turm some heads and pocktbooks. IMHO most people buy with their eyes. Audi looks great but is a bad relationship to start. Looks can kill.

Found this on the Subie Global site in the WRC area. It's an interview with a Subie designer with many illustrations of a "Play Station" WRC racers. We all know that Play Station played a major role in getting the WRX accepted here in the USA by the young folks. Well these Play Station WRC racers show the new Subie face. Keep in mind these drawing come from Subaru.

There have also been a number of these images showing up over at nasioc too. So it looks like Subaru is repeating their gameplan. Get the kids stoked about the new cars via Play Station, then release them to the public.

ugh, god please no... not that grille. I did not like the B11's introduction of the alfa-inspired grille and if that truly is the new face of Subaru I'm sorry to hear it.

    ~c
  • salbaby1972salbaby1972 Member Posts: 165
That grill is out there, nevertheless unique. Your right the B11S grill is different, but the rest of the car IMHO was very nice. I like the B9's front end better. The new look is contraversical which might get more people to buy in. At least it's not bland.
  • johnclineiijohnclineii Member Posts: 2,287
...in much the same way that the 1996 Taurus was not bland, nor the Pontiac Aztec.

    Excuse me, but yuck.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
and have been saying so from day one. No doubt the B11S was way over the top, but even so, I saw a lot of potential hidden beneath the surface. All it took was some further evolutionary refinements of that basic concept. These sketches here prove (at least to me) that to be the case. I think Subaru is definitely on the right track in terms of creating a "face" that will be instantly recognizable as their own. And no, it's not ugly IMO.

i have been driving my relative's MDX fo the weekend, oh boy the engine is so beautifully refined................compared to my OB H4.

Curious to compare this with the new H6.

BTW, i test drove an Forester XT as well. IT is a blast.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing comes close to this. for 25k
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
I considered an MDX in 2002, and cross-shopped it against the LL Bean Outback (which I bought). The MDX V6 is somewhat coarse and noisy compared to the H6. The V6 has a little more pep, but it's also hitched to a fairly porky vehicle. Overall, I came away from the MDX thinking it was kind of rough and loud for an Acura. So I think you'll find the H6 Outback to be a lot smoother and quieter in comparison. Now with 250HP, I'm sure it's noticeably faster than the MDX too.

I recently test drove an MDX, and I thought the engine was the best feature of the car. It was amazingly quiet, smooth, and powerful. (265 HP). The MDX engine is a lot quieter than an RX330's, for example. I haven't driven a Subaru. I did think the MDX ride quality and road noise left something to be desired.

Halifax, $33k, 250hp H6. All fine but give me a Halifax Sport with cloth seats and minus a couple of gadgets for $30k list.

I'm keepin' the faith. Made a deal with my wife - I won't ask for a new car until MY2006, but we change our Chase cards over to Subaru (they are Toys R Us cards now). We accumulate 3% back over a couple of years and then we'll see...

Not sure I like that Impreza sketch. Too Mitsubishi, I see Diamante in the front.

I think the 2005 H6s are so quiet and refined that they'll stand up to the best in back-to-back test drives. You only hear faint wind noise, not much else. At 125mph the Legacy GT is not that loud, you could hear me grunt in that video!

And the H6 is a lot quieter...

rfc8000, it's a community. I haven't poked around recently but AFAIK it's kind of a unique entity here on Edmunds for the subaru faithful. :)

Autoweek is saying 40K for the 7 passenger Subie.
Guess you'll need a few more of those Toy's-R-Us coupons, Juice. Forget Pilot et al....Subaru is aiming for BMW X5's and Volvo XC90's. (BTW, the Volvo is priced about 4K less). Translates to a mid-fifties price in Canada (or mid 60's by the time you add all the taxes etc.) They had touble moving mid 40's VDC Outbacks and 35K+ Baja's, so not sure this "XUV" is going to fly.

Subaru Crew = the owners club for Subaru Members here on Edmunds.com. Lots of active topics there, look under the Owners Clubs category.

Nicholas: note to self, wear Depends next time!

Bob: F-XT PP, wow. Too bad I can't afford one right now!

40k? *sniff* Hope they mean loaded to the gills with options.

Yeah, the A shaped one in the middle and the 2 air plane wings!

I think they can pul off the new "face" of Subaru. Maybe if they move the headlights down where teh airplane wings are and reworked the front a bit. Then it would look more "conseravtive". I guess we'll have to see.

    I'd buy a B11S Sport Wagon for 40K.

I want a B9 to replace my Miata. Then I'll keep polishing my '98 Forester until the wheel hubs rust off.

How long can you accumulate Subaru Bucks? ;-)

Probably 2 years or so, maybe even longer. I do have 2 cars to split the miles, so they should last a while.
