They kept the kink in the D-pillar and the echo in the tail gate glass. I like that. Fewer badges make it look less busy.
Pretty minor face lift, but still, a step in the right direction.
I agree that this was the way to go, you can't put the Tribeca face on such a square body. Question is will the next Forester become rounded off?
-juice
That bumper reaches all the way up the sides of the grille. If it's not painted, it'll look like the Volvo XC70 and the CR-V, i.e. black trim surrounding a painted grille.
I hope that's not the case. Stream line the bumper more.
-juice
If that's the case, I don't see any hood scoops. It would be strange for them not to show the XT model.
Bob
Predict they will roll out some Special Edition Foresters to give sales some jump (e.g. the Canadian 05 Forester X SE, maybe the F Sti), as the refresh is hardly noticeable to the rest of the world.
JP
However, from the 3/4 view, the rounded fender flares don't seem to go as well with the new front. The refresh reminds me a bit of the MY01 Forester update where the refresh focused mostly on the front of the vehicle. The net result was a nice front that didn't flow as well into the rest of the chassis.
Oh, and by the way, I could just barely see that the brochure read "Sportshift 4EAT". I guess 5EAT will have to wait until the full redesign.

LL Bean, XS and XT models get 215/55x17 tires. X model now gets 16" wheels, a first for JDM X models.

Also, I noticed that the 2-tone bumpers on the LL Bean extend up past the grill (like the CRV) which looks a little odd. It also appears like the base X model with steel wheels will have body colored bumpers, no more black plastic. It looks better, but I have to admit that I love the worry-free nature of black plastic bumpers on a utility vehicle. The integrated NAV is great! I hope it makes it over the pond this time, too...
For the first time since it's introduction, I can say I like the exterior of the Forester. There's always been something off kilter for me that was enough to sway me into an Outback (2001) and WRX (2004) instead of the Forester. For a mid-cycle refresh, it looks great!
Brian
I like the look of the front, but this could be unique to the JDM Forester. The JDM Legacy/OB also has a nice rounded front, but it sprouts an ugly bumper in the US. Lets hope the US Forester is closer to the JDM one in appearance!!
Craig
Looked at the LL Bean and noticed that yes, the bumper does go up and wrap around the side of the grille. One detail I didn't like. Brian seems to share my opinion on this.
The face looks lifted, literally. The lights form the air plane wings around the grille. Very subtle, very clever, IMO.
They brought back the recline feature that has been missing since the 1998-2000 models, nice!
I hope max rear leg room is increased.
-juice
And yes, I like very much what I see here. I love the new center armrest, which folds back to give the rear passengers two cupholders (that aren't on the floor).

Bummer!
If you all recall, when juice and I were in Detroit, we had dinner with the other guests and our SOA host. The host mentioned that there may be a problem with introducing the Forester at Chicago. Well apparently they couldn't resolve it...
My guess is the Forester shares something new with either the new Impreza and/or the '06 Legacy/Outback models, and SOA wants to introduce it on that vehicle first.

Now it may not not be NAV, but it could be something similar. I do hope it is NAV though, as I would very much want to see that feature available on all Subaru lines.
Bob
Bob
Not crazy about the eye lids over the headlights. But it looks better when it's so close up.
They gotta have something in Chicago, maybe a Nav option on the OB/Legacy would hold people over until NY.
-juice
NAV or a tranny were my guesses as well for the Forester. Is there anything else that is 'new' left to unveil on the Outback or Legacy or Impreza, or even the B9 for that matter? It's a shame they won't be showing anything truely 'new' at the Chicago show, I look forward to that each year.

What about the rumor of a more powerful engine?

It seems like a weird "blank" to use if there's really no stereo in it.
The storage space (in non-nav models this is where the stereo is located) can hold two 350ml cans and direct a/c into the space for cooling.

They've expanded the space at the show too this year. And Jeep is having a test track on site. So, I'll still have plenty to take pictures of. Any requests, let me know.

From what I understand the Tribeca will be there, and you should be able to sit in it (unlike Detroit).
Only request I have is that you have a good time there.
