Brian - could you take a photo of the access to the third row with the second row tilted forward and slid forward?
  • mirage5mirage5 Member Posts: 13
JDM means what? Is that a picture of the new Forester? When does it come out over in the U.S.?
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
    JDM = Japanese Domestic Market

    USDM = US Domestic Market

We'll probably see the newly redesigned Forester here in the USDM in the late summer.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll wait until then to buy my car. I really like it!

If somebody doesn't snag a pic at the upcoming Philly show first, I will try to do so at the Chicago show.

I probably took a pic of that, let me look...

Hmm, ImageStation is either down or really slow right now, but later on check out this album:

Go to the index, then you can choose Display All and see all the pics Bob and I took. There are more than 100.

Unfortunately, it looks like Subaru won't be debuting anything new at the Chicago show this year. Their press conference that was scheduled is now off the list. Seems like they'll debut the facelifted Forester in NY instead.

And we HOPE that's because there are drivetrain improvements that they need the extra time to sort out.

I bet if it had debuted in Chicago, that it would have the exact same engine and tranny.

But this gives me hope for AVCS on the base engine and perhaps a 5EAT, or at least Sportshift controls on the 4EAT.

5EAT and a little more HP/torque from the base engine would be great (for Forester as well as 2.5i Outback models). I would certainly step down from an XT trim level if I could get the 5EAT and more power from a NA engine with good fuel economy.

never have enough power to escape nj fringe drivers
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That's probably not what they want to hear, though, Craig.

Invest a bunch of money and your customers will spend less.

That's why I think they'll keep it under 180hp no matter what, even if they have to understate the power it's making.

just gut feeling here folks, nothing more...

Chicago: Nada. Outside chance of '06 Legacy and/or Outback (I find it hard to believe that SOA won't introduce something new here)

Geneva in early March: New Euro-spec Impreza

NY in late March: All remaining US-spec '06 models, including Impreza, Forester, Baja, Legacy & Outback

    Paris in Sept: Euro-spec Forester

Since we're throwing out guesses, I'll guess that the Nav option will debut at Chicago on the Outback, whether it's an '06 or not.

Yeah, it could be something subtle like that.

    Bob
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I suppose that could happen. Though, you'd think they'd want to mention that to the press, otherwise the press could potentially miss that update.

Toyota & Fuji Heavy to partner on hybrid technology!

    http://www.iii.co.uk/news/?type=afxnews&articleid=5184890&amp- ;subject=companies&action=article

and it sounds like Subaru's gonna make a big push on hybrids in North America: Fuji Heavy "will use it to make hybrids a mainline product in the North American market..."

This is a big "wahoo!" in my opinion... will keep Subaru's environmentally sensitive image intact despite building larger, more luxurious and more powerful vehicles. Will give Subaru's built-in "granola" customers reasons to stay with the brand, too. Way to please a core group while pursuing the up-market goal, Subaru!

and sign me up for a hybrid B9 Tribeca ASAP!
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Subaru & Toyota! Wow! I didn't think that would ever happen.

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Subaru will show the B9 Tribeca and R1 at Geneva. Sounds like they're testing the water to see if how much interest there is in those cars for the European market. Especially interesting is the showing of the R1. Never before (at least in recent history) has Subaru considered this size of car for Europe. It looks like they are thinking of going against the SMART in that market.

So much for the new Impreza debuting there. :(

That is inded great news. The next question is, How long will it be until we see any results? I realize hybrid technology is not the end-all, but it definitely is a step in the right direction. I wonder if they will try to work on Subaru's version of hybrid technology, or just stick with Toyota's?

I'm not surprised, Ford partnered with Toyota also. Toyota doesn't build them, but Ford does license some of the technology and patents (and vice-versa).

OK, now, build my (and Brenda's) B9 Scrambler!

It's really not surprising. Most car manufacturers admit that Toyota is by far the leader in hybrid thecnology and everyone else is playing catchup. Developing such technology would be way too expesnive for a small company like Subaru, so it makes sense that they would license Toyota's technology.

However, I wasn't aware that FHI was into advanced battery technology. Nice sinergy at play here since Toyota's biggest issue in ramping up production has been finding enough batteries.

To be honest I think they have so many patents on the parallel drive technology that no amount of money could come up with a better design, at least not in the short term.

So licensing it from Toyota is really the only way to go. Why license Honda's lesser system?

That really is an excellent partnership. I agree that there is a real synergy here.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Ford was first, then Porsche, now Subaru. Toyota really scored with their investment in hybrid technology.

I bet they only license the software, HSD that is.

    Scrambler HYBRID!!!
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Sorry juice - the Scrambler name is owned by DCX IIRC. Wasn't that the name of a Jeep model?

The US Trademark office shows it - it says abandoned but I don't know what that means.
  • sweet_subiesweet_subie Member Posts: 1,394
how did subaru display scrambler hybrid & R2 hybrid is running in japan ?

how do you they do these without having the technology, why do they have to partner ?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
yes, Scrambler was the name of the long-bed AMC Jeep.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That's right Brenda. We could even afford the gas to drive it back and forth so we can share it!

At first Subaru called it the B9SC, but later they officially used the name B9 Scrambler. So maybe Jeep has abandoned ownership of the name.

When the B9 hybrid was first shown (in Tokyo) it was called the B9 Scrambler. By the time it was shown at Detroit and Geneva early the next year, it had been renamed the B9SC.

Is there any information on the design changes for 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
One rumor has it going to 330hp, to make room for a more powerful WRX with a lower pressure 2.5T. Hope so!

So the hybrid thing is not a done deal, and Fuji can offer li-ion technology in return. Interesting. I knew the battery supply was a constraint.

Hmm, a hybrid Tribeca may solve Subaru's power issues with that car. A combined 300+ hp plus improved gas mileage could make the B9 a real contender.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Interesting to read that Nissan will also be borrowing Toyota technology. I wonder if the old Nissan-Subaru relationship is helping Subaru obtain the technology too.

MT says 0-60 in 7.5, I wouldn't really consider that to be an issue.

We can always use more power, though.

What exactly is this doing ?

can we do it ourselves ?

Is this a good product ?

Will this reduce turbo lag ?

Be very careful that you don't screw up your warranty by doing this.

This thread was created to discuss FUTURE Subaru models, vehicles which can't be bought today. User sweet_subie apparently feels free to use this thread for discussion of all things Subaru. I can't count the times I've been drawn to open this thread in the hope of learning about some up-coming Subaru only to find that sweet_subie has found some news about some existing Subaru model already on sale that he wants us to know about.

Here's some advice. Every currently-available Subaru has some other thread reserved for its discussion at Edmonds. The thread relevant for sweet_subie's most recent post is: Subaru Crew - Modifications II.

Please, reserve this thread for news and opinion about Subarus that aren't yet available for sale at your dealer.

    OK, dude. sorry.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Let's cut her some slack, I mean Subaru could indeed tune their ECUs a little more aggressively in the future.

Vishnu makes a reliable product with some very simple changes, which begs the question, why doesn't Subaru consider hiring some of their engineers or programmers to see what they could do in-house?

Note that in every tuner comparo I've seen, Vishnu's cars are not necessarily the fastest, but they always seem to complete every test, reliably.

That is precisely what OEMs require.

Give Elissa some credit where credit is due.

Come on Jon, get the starch out of your shirt and cool it, we have all posted cross thread at some point or other. In the overall scheme of things it amounts to making a mountain out of a molehill.
