Thanks for the heads-up. I am heading to the dealer tomorrow and let us see what we can come up with.

Charlie: I looked at photos of the '07 & '08 Tribecas. Yeah, that door cladding does look the same. The cladding seemed taller in the video, for whatever reason.

    Jeff,

The front lower cladding and the side view mirrors are directly from the European 07 model Tribeca.

The front is definitely more substantial and lower. see this link:

I intended to say the Front cladding is more substantial and TALLER.

For sure Craig. '08s are already showing up on dealer lots. I've seen them at Fitzmall and the Annapolis Subaru dealer.

I was on the fence between the GT and the WRX - both EAT wagons - for a while but waited for the re-designed WRX wagon to emerge before deciding. I was not too enthused by the redesigned version (for a variety of reasons listed earlier) and that took me off the fence. Today, after putting together some numbers, decided on the 07 WRX (the GT was a close call, even though there were probably no wagon 07s available). The dealer has ordered it and would be here by June....supposedly the last allotment for the 07 model year.

I was not too impressed by the GT's bland front-end but was tempted by everything else - 5EAT, SI-Drive, better quality interior etc but finally decided on the WRX, since I really liked the looks - especially the front-end of the 07, the WRX Ltd 4EAT was lighter by around 183lbs than the GT and more compact/maneuverable, quicker steering and costed around $3K less than the GT. That decided it. Should be a Subaru owner shortly ! :D

True, there are 08s (Legacy sedans and OB wagons) on the lot of our dealer here in MN too.

Local Tampa dealer shows a few '08 Outbacks in stock, too. 2.5i only, no Legacies yet.

Congrats on your order! Sound like you'll have one of the last WRX wagons ever made.
  • aaykayaaykay Member Posts: 539
Yup ! One of the last of the current gen WRXs. :)

So were you able to get a good deal?
  • aaykayaaykay Member Posts: 539
Actually the deal is Invoice minus any incentives that will be in place when the car gets here. Right now there is a $1000 cashback here AND special 1.9% financing. Hopefully by June, the cashback would have increased a bit to clear the decks for the 08. So I am guessing a WRX Ltd EAT for around the 24K mark (excluding Tax/TTL), plus special financing.

    Nice deal!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That's crazy. The list price on a TR model is a grand higher and that's before you even consider the low rate financing.

    Sweet deal. What color? :shades:
  • cptpltcptplt Member Posts: 1,075
dealer had a quartz silver, harvest gold, deep bronze and black in. quartz silver is nice, slight blue tinge when close up. harvest gold is ok but seems "weak" and "faint", like how the seacrest green and champaign gold opal is rather indistinct but not as bad but not like their nice gold color a decade ago. bronze is ok too (brownish maroon) though close up it seems to glitter, may show scratches easily.
so I'll have to decide between a 2.5Ltd VDC or 2.5 LL Bean VDC/Nav. Like the newport blue but like dark seats too which only come with the quartz silver and black. decisions, decisions!! its for my daughter, maybe I should ask her!!

Where are those juicy colors, like "passion" red, "lemon" yellow, etc. C'm Subaru - not everyone is 50 years old

Their color choice is a major deterrant for me. Never liked them - just old folks' stuff. Even Impreza - other than rally blue (that one I bought) and (short lived) red and yellow everything else is also "old people".

Can you tell me what the MSRP and invoice is on the 2.5LTD with VDC is.
I'm thinking of trading in my '05 2.5i on one or, if the price is close, perhaps a Tribeca LTD.
    Thanks

I agree. It seems like all of the striking colors that they offered (or, rarely, do offer) are fleeting, at best.

Their Outback and Legacies don't even have "toned down"/metalic reds anymore. Everything is in camryish.

And Camry is the best selling car in America....so, they are learning to mimick the best sellers!

Gotta agree, people are asking for low maintenance colors and that's what Subaru has been delivering.

You see 12 shades of gray/silver, one beige, one light metallic blue, one light metallic green. Maybe a pure black and a white if you're lucky.

    That's what sells, though.

Bionic Lemon Yellow looks great in a brochure, but when it comes time to sell them they sit in the showrooms. :lemon:

Color is Crystal Grey metallic. Looks roughly like Silver.

I know - doen't mean I have to be happy about it. Others' preferences were very little guidelines to me and if Camry was the last car on earth I would look for a scooter or bicycle. Well, maybe not - but still would not make me happy.

Very true - until someone like me shows up and buys it outright. But I know I'm a minority in my automotive preferences in general, color including.

Yeah the problem is they have to try to make as much money as possible, so they have to cater to the middle of the road.

    '08 OB LTD w/VDC: MSRP $28,340, Invoice $26,540 (non-California emissions spec)

Subaru has said pricing on the '08 Tribeca will be essentially the same as the '07 models. Invoice on an '07 5-passenger Tribeca Ltd is $31,235 (before rebates/incentives).

You can see MSRP & invoice for all Subaru models, as well as retail & invoice for most accessories/packages here:

if i am a tribeca owner a year ago with 3.0l engine who paid the same price last year, i would be pissed off.

suabru is improving content very well without keeping the prices up
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
Looks like we had some technical hiccups in the thread.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Automotive News reported that the starting price would actually drop by a little over $1000.

Still, that doesn't mean much. Will they remove some content? I think the 07 dropped the moonroof on the base car, for instance.

Also, you have to factor in the current incentives. If the 08 comes out $1000 cheaper, the price is still higher, effectively.

Example: I'm looking at a loaded one, right now Fitz has them for $32,416. Invoice is $35,665, though, so even if they drop the price by a grand and dealers offer it at invoice we're still talking about a $2000 price increase.

The list price by itself means nothing. We all know sales prices will be up by up to 10%. Bargain hunters will still pick the 07s.

Another thing - you get that lower price and cut-rate financing. I may have a loan so that matters.
  • aaykayaaykay Member Posts: 539

Exactly ! Especially if I can get 1.9% financing for a couple of years, why not utilise it and deploy your funds in other investments that yield a better return ? I think paying cash is not wise, with such offers on the table.

Once you factor in the cash incentives and add in the financing, I guess it is a no-brainer to go for a new 2007 rather than an 08, unless the 08 has features that you simply cannot live without. 5-6 years later if you intend to sell it, very few people would care whether it is an 07 or an 08....all they would care would be whether the car has been maintained well, what features it comes with, its mileage and how it looks cosmetically.

I'm waiting anyway. Even if it does cost more.

$300 per year in fuel doesn't sound like much, but I've had my Forester for 9 years. That would be $2700.

OK, that's optimistic, I doubt it would be *that* much cheaper to operate, but even at half that amount I'm still recovering most of the price difference and getting better range the whole time. IMHO the 16.9 gallon fuel tank is just too small for a lot of city use.

Features? It's not so much that. The extra torque is nice, though.

The plain front will be easier to re-sell, IMO. The current look only appealed to a narrow audience. The 08 is more generic but it would appeal to a very broad audience. I think it would be easier to find a buyer, sure.

The mere fact that it's one model year newer also adds some value at resale. Small difference after 5 years, though.
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
At least in the case of the Tribeca, it makes a lot of sense to wait for an 08 in my opinion. I am sure deals will be available within a couple months of release. I think I paid invoice for my then "all-new" 05 OB XT about 1.5 months after they became available. Pricing did not hold to MSRP long, if at all. There were even decent financing rates available. The only thing missing was a $2000 rebate on the older models, but the major upgrades in the new model nullified that in my opinion (plus I was trading in one of the past gen models anyhow).

In some cases a sweet deal on the outgoing model makes a lot of sense, in others, not so much.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Also, even when new, the 06 Tribeca had a special offer. IIRC there were 3 items to choose from, an MP3 player (something like that), an LL Bean gift card, and something else. Financing?

So it's possible the 08 will come out with some sort of offer.

Hi everyone, it's been a while.
Some articles have said that NA would still see the STi hatch variant. How big is the rear cargo space, or maybe more indicative, how much smaller than the current wagon?? Big enough to squeeze in a flexible 50lb husky cross? If so, I foresee some serious domestic discussions in the next year.
  • aaykayaaykay Member Posts: 539
If you are interested in the Tribeca, then I would definitely go for the 08. No question about it. The older model will not age well and is pretty polarising, IMO. Plus there are several improvements big and small in the new one, not least among them being the torquier engine that runs on regular.
  • aaykayaaykay Member Posts: 539
I think they might meet the storage capacity "numbers" of the 07 wagon but what concerns me is the acute slope of the rear of the hatch, which limits the usability of that available space. Maybe they have saved the utility aspect for the Forester variant ?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Normally it would, but honestly I don't think I'd be able to wait until that model was ready.

We're going to car pool 5 kids to a camp in July. I need a 6+ seater before then.

I'm driving my wife crazy with the waiting. We have a road trip to CT next weekend and she's already mad that we're taking a small vehicle on such a long trip.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,696

Between DC, NJ and NYC traffic that could take a lot longer than you might think....

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, takes us 7 hours usually. That's long for a single leg of a trip (we only make pit stops).

One time it took us 10 hours coming back.

My brother-in-law lives in Milford, so it's almost an hour past the NY-CT border.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,696
Oh.... right. Sorry... used to open roads (but long distances!) in the West and Alaska....

I am headed to Anchorage on Friday to find a replacement car for the '07 Outback and plan to leave after work (~6pm) for the "quick jaunt" 350 miles to my grandparents' house!

Juice, don't be hard on the pocket. Just rent a SUV or minivan for the weekend.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That would work for the trip next weekend, but what about the regular car pooling we'll be doing for camps this summer?

We need a bigger car for regular use.

If you think about it, we have 3 small vehicles. The Legacy is barely mid-sized, I think the EPA calls it a compact. The Forester is compact. The Miata is mini-compact.

Sure, I prefer smaller cars, but it's time to cave since I have a 2nd car anyway.
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
"I am headed to Anchorage on Friday to find a replacement car for the '07 Outback"

Got something in mind to buy, or are you just seeing what's on the lots? I assume you're sticking w/AWD or 4x4 capability... going for another older OB, SUV or...? What's on your list?
