I get calls here all the time at work for people saying they want to buy the building. I usually just say it isn't for sale and that we run our plumbing supply business out of it. My Dad likes to toy with them. They start out by saying "what do you want for the property?" To which my Dad replies, you've already got the comps pulled up and you know what the property is worth, so what do you plan to offer me for it?" They always then ask what he wants for the property. He usually replies with either $5,000,000 or $10,000,000. They ask why he thinks the property is worth that much. He tells them, "you didn't ask me what it was worth. You asked me what I want for it." Then he hangs up.

On the residential side, there is a very pushy realtor that has been borderline harassing my parents, sister, & nieces to buy my parents' house. The realtor is Orthodox Jewish and quite a few Orthodox Jews have been buying up houses further in my parents development. Their scam is that they make an all cash offer so the seller takes the house off the market. Then when closing time comes, they say they don't have all cash and need to get a small mortgage. They string you along and finally close after pushing the closing as long as possible. Meanwhile, your house is off the market, but not sold.

The realtor calls my parents and has even called my business on multiple occasions. Says she has an all cash buyer for their house. My Mom always tells her she wants $2,000,000. The realtor asks why she thinks it is worth that much? Can she come in to give them a free market analysis? Does it have a pool? My Mom says, I don't want to sell my house, but for $2,000,000 I'll sell it. She has stopped my sister walking the dog asking where she lives and is her house for sale. She has also stopped my nieces who are 16 and 14 while they are walking the dog. My nieces obviously know better than to talk to people who pull up to them in a car. Still it is extremely unnerving to say the least.

    That is seriously brutal!

    And unethical!

My sister died several years ago and I was the executor of her will. I am still getting letters and calls from realtors wanting to list her home. Problem is she didn't own the home. Maybe I should sell them the home, cash only no checks.

I’m curious, what’s the purpose of holding off the closing and keeping your house off the market? I can see why it would be annoying to the seller, especially if you had a mortgage to keep paying on but what does the buyer get out of it?

I'd have blocked her number long ago. Some states (CA is one) allow you file a civil harassment restraining order if certain conditions are met. The real estate licensing board might also be interested to hear about the harassment.

my guess, they want to string you along and get so committed that when they come back for concessions you do it. If not that, then they didn't actually have the money? Maybe playing a shell game, showing the same funds on multiple deals.

When I sold my houses people put down a deposit.
If they couldn't meet the contract terms, I could have kept the money.
Maybe people hear cash offer and don't formalize a contract?

Lived up in Westchester years ago, was born there and left a couple weeks before I turned 15 for sunny Ft. Lauderdale. Moved middle of October when I was in 10th grade, and hated being the new kid but, did give the three of us a chance for a do-over if you will. We knew everyone in our hometown and this move gave us a chance to re-invent oneself without and bloody history. Funny how one looks at such events years later in a different light.
Don't mis New York to this day and actually, never did miss it. Best part was living so close to the city that in under 45 minutes, we were at Grand Central Station. Have been back to Connecticut a few times over the years and had no desire to go into the city which some of my cousins saw a weird. But such is life, no regrets here.

Appliance story: dishwasher started giving what looked like error codes part way through the cycle so remembering what someone here said I removed and cleaned the drain filter. Surprisingly, it worked on the next attempt. If this was really a fix I won’t know until the next time I do the dishes but I’ll thank the person who mentioned that solution in advance.

The Ford dealer where I bought my truck contacted and is going to send out a tech to do a recall.
Actually, they contected me twice. I pretty much ignored the first one.
The text wasn't from a dealer number listed on their website.
After the second one, I called service to verify it was legit.
I imagine it is just a software update.

Nice that they're coming out to do it at home, makes it so much easier for you. When I got the GTI, the sales guy brought the cleaned vehicle to our house with all the paperwork and after I looked things over and went inside to sign the papers and do the necessary payments, he switched license plates for me and that was it, 45 minutes later, he was gone with the 2015 Golf and I had the new 2025 GTI in the driveway. Was the easiest transaction I had ever had when buying a vehicle. Figured they weren't that busy so was happy to have it done that way.

It replaced a Nissan, so we did have to drop that off at the local dealer.

With all of the shuttling and logistics of on-site work like that, I imagine it is actually easier and possibly less expensive for them to send someone to you.

Did they determine a cause for the Crosstrek failure? Was it something bad with the engine design, poor maintenance, Quickylube leaving the drain plug off? An engine blowing up with subsequent fire is a scary thing.

A7 heads to dealer Monday for a recall; backup camera could fail. 5 years in, no sign of that but in the blink of an eye...
Said it would take a while, so getting a free loaner. I asked for an R8, my guess is that will be given to the person just before me. As always seems to happen.
Free wash, too. But not sure where to go with loaner, dealer's in Hyannis, a good half hour from home. Guess I should look for a breakfast place, maybe visit with RFK jr. and ask him to please go away.

They gave it to the salvage people who towed it, so I don't know. I asked how many miles were on it and they said over 100,00. It wouldn't surprise me if it was either out of oil or very low.

The 2017 E400 just reached the 50000 mile point.
I will get an oil change and filter. Is this a good time to get, a fuel filter, spark plugs, an engine filter?
At 60000 miles they suggest: Inspect valves, hoses, belts (sepentine and timing), check coolant, change transmission oil (not sure if that is necessary).
I have looked at a few MB schedules and they differ somewhat. Any input would be helpful.

    Two other things:
Modern fuel filters have a fairly high capacity. The only car I've replaced a fuel filter on in the past couple of decades has been the 1995 Club Sport.
I doubt that there is any need for a valve inspection, the engine has hydraulic lifters so no valve adjustment is needed.

@roadburner - my G37 also had a dual air filter setup. I wonder how many smooth brained people only thought to change one of them on those cars.

Mahle sells the filters individually so that’s entirely possible.
The OEM filters were Mahle as well- the only difference was that “Mercedes-Benz” was not printed on my new filters. Interestingly, both sets were made in Romania.

RE: 2026 Mustang EV, charging if you want a frunk!:
without an engine, space is opened to add cargo storage under the hood to create a front trunk, or frunk. For new 2026 Mach-E owners, though, that advantage is now primed to cost them as the Blue Oval is now charging buyers for the electric SUV’s frunk. The feature was previously included as standard.

First reported by Ford Authority and confirmed by MotorTrend, it now costs $495 to have a frunk insert installed on the 2026 Mustang Mach-E across its four trims. According to FA, the change was made because Ford’s designers learned owners weren’t taking advantage of the frunk space.

Would you pay extra to get a frunk?

you make it sound like a negative. Or can look at it as instead of charging everyone for something most don't want, you can get a discount and only pay if you want it.

Although sorry to hear about the engine meltdown of the 2015 Crosstrek with 100k+ miles, it was a comfort to know it was probably a case of neglect.

Just got the first free oil change and tire rotation at 3k miles for my wife's Outback. Subaru is strict with their maintenance schedule with 6 months or 6k miles, whichever comes first. But their normal price for an oil change is about $85, and so not a big deal. I'm going to take mine in early in a few weeks at about 2k miles, just before my 6k road trip.

I have 3 free oil changes each for the Forester and Legacy. So far I used 1 for the Forester and 2 for the Legacy. I get the tires rotated at Discount Tire.

I've been able to pay my dealer $0 so far.

Guy from Ford Mobile Service showed up on time yesterday and was done with the recall in about 20 minutes.
I asked him about scheduling and oil change.
He said technically they can do them but he won't because if any oil drips after he leaves he gets complaints.
So in a month or so, off to the dealer to get the oil changed.
I haven't driven enough to rotate the tires.

you make it sound like a negative. Or can look at it as instead of charging everyone for something most don't want, you can get a discount and only pay if you want it.

It probably doesn't cost a lot to make a frunk....I think it is more of a money grab and will lead to more charges for extras, extra if you want an ashtray, a glove compartment, a visor mirror etc.

I'll probably do my first oil change on the GTI in May. Just passed 2500 miles so won't even put on another 500 miles by then. Luckily they gave folks 3 free oil changes so there's some savings there.

I suppose that’s better than having to pay a monthly subscription to get the hood to open.

I just saw a report that now if you by a Vizeo TV at Walmart you have to download the Walmart app to get features to work. What the heck?

Well, the Mach-E is selling so well, they probably think they can get away with it.

It sounds like a great opportunity for the aftermarket, to me. I'm sure there are places such as Weathertech that will start offering superior alternatives (assuming this type of decontenting becomes a trend and the models sell in sufficient volume to warrant the investment).

Did they cut the price when they got rid of the frunk?
