Hi, I'm shopping for a 03 or 04 Passat GLX V6 Auto. I've tried several internet sites such as autobytel, invoicedealer, and even costco, it seemed that they all pointed me to only one dealer, the same dealer as a matter of fact. Is there a better site that would contact a bunch of dealers for quotes, or do I have to go to vw.com to request for a quote directly from the dealers? BTW, I live in SF bay area. Thanks in advance.
  • afryarafryar Member Posts: 50
I found mine using vehix.com. I'm in New England but I'm pretty sure Vehix is nationwide, just put in your zip code and they search dealer inventories within a 50 or 100 mile radius. There are about a half dozen VW dealers within 50 miles of me and vehix definitely searched each of their inventories. I eventually found the one I wanted (an 03 Passat GLX 5spd) and drove down to the dealer to work a deal. Good luck! let us know how it goes...

Somehow I thought the internet sites would contact all the dealers in the area and let them give me quotes. I guess it doesn't work that way. I'll try your suggestion. Thanks.

On VW website in financial part of it I've seen
offer Driver's option. Has anyone had any experience with it or has to say something about it ?
    Thanks...

    Hi,

Was just quoted $28,500 for a 2K3 Passat GLX w/ 4motion and ESP. From looking through edmunds (TMV) and other sources, seems like a fair deal. Any comments?

    Thanks.

It doesn't look like there are many 2003's left, but I was able to get (what I think was) a great deal this weekend. Let me know what you think.

2003 Passat GL Auto (no add'l options)

    $21,805 - Invoice
    -$1,600 - below invoice
    -$1,000 - VW rebate for having 99, 2000, or 01 VW

    =$19,205 with 2.9% for 5 years

Greetings all. Just wanted to know if you think this is a good deal:
    2001.5 Passat GLX
    28,500 Miles
    Silver/Blue Exterior - Black Leather
    $19,599
Just sold my Camry (thank God!) and the wife and I really like the Passat. Questions:
    1. On the GLX is Premium gasoline recommended or required?
    2. Does the CD player/changer come standard with the GLX (This one has neither)?
    3. Should I have any concerns with the 01.5 or should I look for an 02?

    Thanks for the assistance.

Looks like a good deal. I am hoping to get into a similar Passat next Summer....
  • fish8fish8 Member Posts: 2,282
That sounds like allot to spend for a 2001.5 Passat. I really have not priced them, but to me it sounds a little high. Also, the warranty has expired, so that would bother me some. Just my thoughts for what their worth.

I gave my 2000 Station Wagon 4 motion Passat and got a 2003 one, the deal was to good to be true, so I took it:-)
I hope I do not have any problems with my new Passat and hopefully VW Credit will not cause any problems later.I was told that my car was in fine shape so I should be OK, in case I may be hit buy a wear and tear bill by VW credit I will be pretty mad.
The Dealership worked excellent, so I hope everything goes smooth after this point.
  • fish8fish8 Member Posts: 2,282
Give us some details on your new Passat. I am interested to see how the Pull Ahead deal worked for you. How much time remained on your previous lease? What king of Passat did you get? I hope to take advantage of the same deal next summer if VW offers a similar deal.

    Congrats on your new car!!
  • atillathehunatillathehun Member Posts: 2
My lease was about to expire 7/2004.
I got a 4 motion GLX Station Wagon.
It looked like a no brainer, hoping that everything goes smooth from now on..

I just bought an '03 GLX V6 with 4motion and ESP for 28.8 here in Central Virginia. The dealer got it from NC when I told him I could get a demo with 6k miles from a competitor for 28.5! I was and still am very happy: new car with 900 miles on it, loaded, in the color I wanted. 1.9% financing from VW made it even sweeter. I don't know where you are, but the '03s are available. You just have to be willing to look and ask. My dealer was Terry VW in Lynchburg.

Thought I'd bought a Passat, but before I signed the contract and took possession, a distraction came up. Here, I'd found a 2003 GL in the exterior color I want (white) if the wrong interior (tan - shows dirt?), but with all the features I want (ESP and heated seats); I got the TMV price of $21,500 with 1.9% financing. I can take possession right away.
But an internet dealer in a city 300 miles away just offered me a 2004 with all those features plus the grey interior I want, at essentially the same price: $21,600. Seems like a no-brainer to go for it. But... with the latter I don't know what the financing will be, since it won't arrive at the dealer for a couple of weeks--maybe it will be a higher rate?? I'll have to go on a weekend trip to get it. And is there any danger they'll change the price in the intervening weeks, or something could go wrong?
    I don't know.
Anyway, yes, it seems far more sensible to get the '04 at the same price than the '03, and also get the interior I want. But maybe not? I gotta decide soon on the '03, so I'm under pressure. I'd appreciate feedback and guidance. Thanks.
  • nomaracknomarack Member Posts: 9
Get the dealership with the '04 to give you all the details in writing. Let them know that if they enter into this "contract" with you, that you will commit to buying the vehicle. This will at least give you some security about it, although, as with everything else in life, unforseen issues could arise, but at least you would have something to fall back on.

Hello Everyone. New to this board. I am trying to sell the Passat (it breaks my heart!) but we are faced with moving to NYC from Colorado. 25k miles, asking $25,700, and I have babied this from the outset. I've tried Autotrader.com as well as their magazine, but have not had any response (3 weeks) Do you think the price is too high? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ask our friend Terry (and company) over in the Real-World Trade-In Values discussion. Read a page or two of messages so you know what information to provide.

    Good luck.

Just bought an '03 Passat GLX auto demo with 3000 miles. Pd $25500. So far I love the ride and am having fun learning about all the features VW builds into this car. This is my first VW; my buying experience at the dealership was excellent. This is the third car I have bought there (other two were Chevy's) and they treated me just like I expected to be as a loyal customer. Looking forward to years of enjoyment from my Passat.

Paid 20.5k including monsoon stereo and dealer installed security system (which I didn't want but they couldn't rip it out). What do you think?
  • dabddabd Member Posts: 1
    hi sjpicard,

What is the mileage and is the dealer

    GLS for 20.5k ?????????
that is very very good deal
  • end_highend_high Member Posts: 4
Just bought an 03 GLX V6 w/ ESP for 26.5k.
One of the last few left. Brand new not a demo.
    What do you think?
  • audiomarkaudiomark Member Posts: 1
I saw an 03 Passat GL with auto transmission.
It's left over from last season and brand new.
The sticker price is aproximately $24,500, including the dealer installed alarm system and prep fees.

What do you think I should offer for this car considering it's an 03?
  • fish8fish8 Member Posts: 2,282
That price is wayyyy too high. All VW's come with an alarm system standard. What kind of system did the dealer put in. Look at this link for '03 pricing:

Can you tell me where did you buy the car?
I don't mind to drive 300 miles if a dealer offer me such a good deal.
  • starflyer59starflyer59 Member Posts: 3
    Any thoughts on this deal?

1995 Passat GLX Wagon, auto, 63k miles, black/black, certified, asking $5995

Seems like a good price for a GLX with fairly low miles. Haven't seen it in person yet, so who knows what might be wrong.
  • vwmanjimbvwmanjimb Member Posts: 28
This car CANNOT be certified with VW. It has to be a '98 or newer for the certification program with VW. He is probably offering an extended warranty of some sort with the car. I'd be careful...seems too low. Something might be wrong with it.
  • starflyer59starflyer59 Member Posts: 3
You know, that's exactly what I thought -- car can't be more than 5 years old to be VW certified, right? It's a reputable dealer (Wolfsburg Crest Award winner, for whatever that's worth), so who knows. Maybe it's their own certification process, not VW's. I'll be talking to them tomorrow, so I'll find out for sure.

    Thanks for your input!
  • vwmanjimbvwmanjimb Member Posts: 28
Good luck...post what happens. I'd be curious how they do it since I am a dealer.

I am currently driving a '98 Toyota Camry LE - fully paid for. I'm considering the purchase of a VW Passat - I've test-driven an '03 GLS and loved the the way the car handled; a much more sporty and "luxurious" drive than my Camry. My Camry has almost 90k miles. So far, the VW dealerships I've talked with about a trade-in have quoted me in the area of $3,000 for the Camry towards the purchase of either '03 or '04 Passat GLS. Bottom line, what can I expect to pay for a '03 Passat GLS "demo" with 3k miles (one dealer is offering $21,900) and '04 GLS (dealer is offering $22,268 which includes TTL). What price should I push for my trade-in? I really hate to let it go so cheap, $3k.

Any purchase/trade-in advice I can get is GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks!!

Bought new on Long Island. Sticker was 28, paid 22.5 and was given fair value for trade in also.
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
I would sell the camry yourself. You can get double that easily by selling yourself. No way I would buy the '03 demo for a 300 dollar difference. It has already depreciated a year and would be worth a whole lot less than the new '04.

I am new to this board. Just checked incentives for 2003 passat gl in our area, $1000 rebate(Current Owners or 1999-2002 VW vehicles or immediate family members) and $2500 marketing support (Manufacture to dealer). I have no experience in buying a new car. My question is, when I negotiate with dealer on price, will the latter help me and how? thank you.
  • fish8fish8 Member Posts: 2,282
Yes, if you know what kind of incentives the dealer is receiving from the manufacturer, then you are able to negotiate better. You have every right to ask for the $2500 marketing support money. It will be the dealers decision if they want to offer you the discount. Good luck!!

    Hi all,

I am considering buying a Passat W8. Any advise?
  • starflyer59starflyer59 Member Posts: 3
You wanted to know how it turned out. Well, we bought it, and it's pretty nice. Not VW Certified, as we suspected. They said that was a mistake. And not leather, as the web listing said. Another mistake. Young guys, didn't seem to know a whole lot about the car. Too busy selling $66k Phaetons!

But the car was in pretty good shape, needs some normal work. When it came time to talk price, they conveniently ignored the price on the website and pulled up prices from Kelly, NADA, and Edmunds. Of course, they pulled up the highest possible prices, far above the price on the site. We didn't stand for that, and ultimately got them down below the web site price.

Anyway, the wife's happy to have a reliable daily driver, and I'm happy to have a speedy VW sport wagon to haul out on weekends. So it all works out.

    Thanks for your advice,
    Matt

    Hi,
I am trying to lease an 2004 with Leather. Can anyone share what the lease quotes they got were. So far, I have been quoted $370, $1000 down/cap cost. 15,000/yr 36 months.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The lease seems high compared with other vehicles of similar value.

The dealer "punched" this vehicle last month to get the $2,500 incentive from VW. I think they are somewhat desperate to get rid of it by year end.

I think I could get it for $28k, but haven't begun any negotiations yet. Anyone have any thoughts on a fair price for this car? Is it smarter to just get an '04?

    Thanks very much.

Owned a W8 for approx. 18 months and 22,000 miles.
Only things I would do differently are:
    1) LEASE it - depreciation is going to hit W8 hard for several reasons.
    2) Buy the Sport Package - I chose not to wait and it was not available.
The car is a pleasure to drive.

Just purchased a new, "punched" 03 Passat GLX 4Mo wagon from Bob Lewis VW in San Jose, CA for $26,950. That's $6,280 off MSRP, basically 20% less than list, or one year's depreciation.

If you can find one with a color acceptable to you, I'd say go for the '03. The only difference between the years is that the '04 has a new wheel style. My wife likes the '03 wheel better, anyway.

Don't get a cd changer--they're not that reliable. Get an iPod and connect kit. No more changing disk magazines in the trunk.

My wife and I both have Toyota Camry's mine '96 (103k mi) and hers '99 (50k mi). We have had zero problems with these cars. Been told that Passats are great. Not in a big rush to buy but am curious what prices you folks have seen. Edmunds says that the TMV for this vehicle would be $29,154 (is TMV before taxes?). Very pricey but the GLX is loaded. Thanks for your help. Regards,Jim

Hey all -- I'm a first time poster on the Passat board, but I've spent hours and hours reading Town Hall threads, and have benefited greatly from all of them including this one, so I thought I'd share the details of my purchase tonight. Bought an '03 Passat GLX wagon 5AT with ESP, silverstone gray over black, for $24,995. MSRP was 31,480. Did fine on the trade of a '97 Honda CR-V with 48,500 miles, but had to plow through two rounds of dealer blarney over how it was worth lots less than the $7,300 we ultimately got for it.

Buying experience on the whole was better than average, but I'd attribute that largely to the fact that it's an '03 that the dealer clearly had to sell. We were in and out in about 2 1/2 hours and were IMHO BS'd just a little here and there along the way.

I'm told that the dealer here has at least 4 more '03 GLX wagons in stock -- 3 in reflex siler with 4MO, and 1 in black with 4MO.

Thanks to all for the great info on this thread -- Mark

So far my best price on a 2004 GLS w/leather package is Edmunds at $25,130. Invoice is $24,397. I plan on financing part of the purchase cost.

Two questions. What could I realistically expect to get the dealer down to for purchase? What interest rate would I expect to pay?

    Thanks.

There appear to be no incentives offered at this time by VW. Will that change? When? Any feedback is appreciated.
  • weaponousweaponous Member Posts: 38
VW has no plans to incentivize. It was reported in yesterday's paper in Toronto (the Globe and Mail). They want VW to move upscale and want to protect brand equity as much as possible which shows (at least on this side of the Border) in the residual values. There is also a story in the Globe and Mail today about how incentives are actually resulting in a DECREASE in sales for the Big 3 in the U.S.

If you are buying VW Passat, you are buying for handling, styling, quality and prestige of driving a car that is more unique and not often seen, hence the lack of incentives and price point.

Bought a 04 Wagon GLX 4Motion here in California just before Christmas. Shopped around a bit, and ended buying at 300 over invoice. I received that offer from multiple dealers, even though sometimes I had to ask first. So far I'm very pleased with the driving experience, even though we have only 500miles on it. Will be doing some more serious driving, incl. snow soon!
  • nomaracknomarack Member Posts: 9
Which dealership did you get it from? Just curious. I have a leased 03 GLS I got from Hall and wondering which dealership cut their price that much.
  • diestelmeierdiestelmeier Member Posts: 9
We did our deal at Boucher VW, on 108th Street in Franklin. We picked up the car tonight and I saw two or three 03 GLX's sitting around back. We also had a few discussions with EVS, and I think we could have come close to invoice on an '04 had we gone that route.

Really like the car by the way -- quiet, good power, and way more cush than the CR-V we traded. Hoping we don't have reliability issues, but if we do I'll be posting them.
