Terry.
I saw a local ad where if you buy a Blackwood, you get a Mercury Cougar program car free.
>>>1996 Acura TL 3.2 silver leather, auto, slider, all the goodies in New Orleans with 11,500 miles. They are asking 12,995. First, what is a reasonable price for an (almost) eight year old car. I know the mileage is a plus but how much of a plus?
Second, what "problems" come with such a low mileage car? What should I look for/ask about?<<<<
______________
Miles are kinda high, don't ya think ..? .l.o.l..
On these Extreme low milers you need the history .. is it someone in your area that never drove, age, disability, estate sale, etc, .. ? ..
You need a DMV report, a Carfax and run the Vin# through the Acura dealers service computer and have them take a look see .. is it from Kentucky, then ran through an auction in KC, then went for sale in NC, then the title got washed again in Maine, then down to "Naw Leens" .. ? no hit's, no runs, no errors .. ? ~ stuff like that ...
Then, If it's a "all clear" from the Acura dealer, it "could" be worth as much as $9ish on a trade (if it's puuuurfect and needs -0-) .. what's it worth down Retail Rd .. ? .. can't get em', can't find em' - if you can grab it for $11,0 then that would be a steeeal, $12,0ish then I would be happy, the only problem with these darn Acura's are, they start breakin' down around 200,000+ miles, then you have to get up early on a Saturday morning and miss all the cartoons then find another one in 5/7 years - and that's a pain. ..
let me know ..
Terry.
Time for a new car in the family, but my wife has decided maybe she should get it instead of me. So, what are our 2 cars worth retail/trade (I don't mind hooking on retail road). Both are in southern NJ (Near Phila).
1) 1999 Nissan Maxima SE, dark silver, 5 speed (yeah, I know), cloth, roof, 42,000 miles. Recent tires, some scratches on the rear fender (about a $250 fix), and a few bumps. clean inside, runs nice.
2) 1999 Nissan Quest SE, silver/gray cloth, loaded up (new msrp was 26,500) including moonroof, alloys, etc. Recent tires, new battery, 1 owner, service records, real clean (just a few door dings). 41,000 miles.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
This is for one of my employees. A friend wants to sell her truck for what they still owe on it, $18,000. This is the description he sent me:
White, '99 Dodge RAM 2500 SLT, long bed, Quad Cab, 5.9 L engine, full tow package with anti-sway bars, power everything except seats which are cloth. AC, AM/FM cassette, 63,000 miles, full bed liner, new tires. One rust spot on the left rear quarter behind the tire. That's all the info I have. I'm not a truck expert, but I'm guessing they are burried in it? Thanks in advance for your help - Q
Also, 2wd? 4wd? auto? manual?
Terry is gonna send you to your room ya know!!
I am in Colorado. What would be a good trade-in value?
I have read valuable input from you for many other readers. Can you please tell me how much should I pay, when buying from a private party, for a 1999 Honda Accord EX, V6, 2dr coupe with leather interior, sliding sunroof, premium sound, 4 wheel ABS, and alloy wheels? It has 48K miles. I live in Austin, TX. KBB private party price is $13.4K.
Thanks a lot.
2001 Sequoia, SR5, 2WD
monotone silver, 44K miles
Leather seats, chrome wheels --> both dealer-installed at purchase,
dual air, roof rack
no towing package
no roof
closing the garage door left a couple scratches on the rear bumper. Otherwise truck is in good shape in/and out.
Located in So Cal.
Appreciate your help, as always.
We are off to another trip to help my boss trade his vehicle, it seems the first round didn't do so well. He has a 01 Mazda Tribute ES, 25k, v6, AWD, sunroof, two tone with the tan darker bottom, wheels, tan power leather, side airbags, tow pack but never used, keyless security, it's in Excellent shape he never smokes, power everything,I thought it was a new one.
The Acura dealer thinks it might be worth $14,000 on a trade for a MDX, boss thinks it's worth $17.
Again a huge thanks for all your help, it's amazing how you do all this stuff, how was your trip? Also we still owe you about 10 steak dinners and 50 beers! (to keep you up to date, the 01 MB SL is still up for sale and it's Sept, your right again!)
10,000 Thank You's!
M.
Actually I'm not much of a beer drinker, maybe a few bottles of a nice Chardonnay, Australian, Italian, no French ..
Sooo, it's trade time for the boss eh' ..? $14,0 .. ? it's a 01, ES, AWD, xtra bags, tow pack, V6, leather, slider, loaded up, the miles are fine and it's "thee" color for that little Tribute, if it's as clean as you say it is, then $14,0 is a very fair price - IF, you are one of those Alaskans that live in one of those igloo's and you don't get out much ..
These are kinda hard to find with all the stuff, most are the LX's and this one has low miles, if it hasn't visited the back of a train, kept clean, deep rubber, then it's gotta be worth all of $15,0 and if it's a Reeeal nice one, then $15,5 wouldn't surprise me .. $17,0 ..? tell your boss to quit reading his old Playboys ...
Thanks for stopping by ..
Terry.
Most folks in your area are "thinkin'" Subu's, Exploders, Tahoe's, Xterra's, stuff like that about now .. $19,5 seems about right on a trade, you may want to try to sell this via Ebay, Or a great ad in the San Francisco paper to one of those crazy Left Coasters and see if you can get $23/$24 down Retail Rd ... I just posted something about the KBB/Nada/Better Homes and Gardens thing if you look in one of the last 50 posts ..
Good luck and let me know ..
Terry.
I may be in a situation where I need to make a decision on a car this week. Your thoughts on a reasonable retail price for the following car I am considering:
2000 BMW 740iL
Sport package (with those nice 18" M-Sport Wheels)
White with Tan
Navigation and Comfort Seat options (loaded with everything, of course)
Factory certified to 100K
43K miles on the clock
Very clean - tires look relatively new
Sold new by the dealer
Located in Columbus, OH (Go Bucks!)
What would a reasonable selling price be? Thanks a lot!
Keith

Great vehicles .. It's an 01 with the sport pack and we have the cold pack, miles are ho-hum and the color is right .. don't let the dealer freak ya out, Bimmer drivers know that the Sport pack rides rougher and the tires don't last long, so it's not a Real big selling point up north ... maybe has $35ish in it, add a this and a that with the "Certified" stuff (good idea on a 7 series) "might", could be seeing $37,0 in it .. and $40 would be All the monies on the retail side ..
I hope this helps ..
Terry.
I need a bigger truck.....lol, can't haul much horse feed in that Explorer....hurry up next year, get here already!!!
Another Philly person, hmmm another scientific study on how questions come in waves of regions of the country .l.o.l.. how are ya.?
1) 1999 Nissan Maxima SE, dark silver, 5 speed (yeah, I know), cloth, roof, 42,000 miles. Recent tires, some scratches on the rear fender (about a $250 fix), and a few bumps. clean inside, runs nice. -- it's that charcoal color, nice for the area, it's a ^%$#@! type tranny, cloth - no help there, it's an SE, slider, miles are ok, no help with that little kiss, it's gotta be fixed, semi newish tires .. trade side, in and around that $9,5ish figure, maybe a little more depending on the dealer .. down Retail Rd, super detail and a great ad, $12,9 in the paper and $11,5/$12,5 sends it through the goal posts. (6% difference tax in PA .?) handshaker holds this one back ..
So much for Penn St stopping Nebraska .. FSU better pull this off, GT is a big Rival ..
2) 1999 Nissan Quest SE, silver/gray cloth, loaded up (new msrp was 26,500) including moonroof, alloys, etc. Recent tires, new battery, 1 owner, service records, real clean (just a few door dings). 41,000 miles. -- it's an SE, we got wheels, recent round things, right color, slider, miles are low for the year .. trade side, in and around that mid to high $9's .. Retail Rd action, close to the Maxima, $12,9 same figures ...
If you decide to go to the retail zone, just make sure you Really get a great detail, Zues just bought (stole) a vehicle on ebay, the vehicle was just dirty, horrible pics, engine was dirty, just a mess .. Zues got it for like nothing, when I get some time (time, what the hell is that.?) I going to use that as a great example of what NOT to do when you try to sell or trade a vehicle .l.o.l..
Good luck ............. !
Terry.
Oh, by the way ~ stay away from the car lot's ...

I want a nice used F-350 diesel or Chevy 1-ton diesel or Dodge 1-ton diesel. Gotta be able to haul food for these horses that keep showing up here.
2wd/4wd is a big difference in your area, as is all the other stuff'sss like Dsl, just get back when you get a chance .. how's those "fat daddy LS's" doing ..?
Terry :-)
The Explorer should give you towards 100,000 miles without a lot of trouble. I have a friend who has a '93 Explorer and she has almost 100K on it but the air just went out.
My brother has a '99 Mountaineer and has had great luck with it. Has about 55,000 miles now.
Have a great rest of the weekend! Mark156
You paid WHAT for that LASIK surgery?
Zues: We demand details!!!

The kid opened with a $200 bid and a $1000 reserve, for whatever reason.
There were 10 photos - not very well taken, and the car was DIRTY, especially the engine. I could make out that there were no top end leaks or parts missing from the engine.
I asked the kid what it'd take to end his auction early - he was new to ebay. He said a grand.
I asked him to kill the auction and I'd paypal a deposit. In our conversation, in a nice way, I beat up the car because it was so dirty, saying that I really couldn't tell the total condition without it being cleaned.
The lesson? The consensus between Terry and I is that if the kid detailed it himself, or paid a shop $50, and used a better camera, he could have gotten $2500-3000 for the car.....
So, between my 16 year old and I, we're out $500 a piece on a car that I could turn tomorrow for 3 grand. Not bad for an hour on ebay and e-mail.
Ok back to the glasses, it's a "00" 740iL, not a "01" .. dealer might have $30ish in it, add a this, add the certified stuff, maybe the tall $31ish, $35,0 would be ALL the monies on Retail Rd ~ that's only if I read this right ...

Any thoughts on my fiance's cars that I posted earlier?
1995 GS300 Touring
146,000 miles
Two-tone gold exterior/tan leather interior
Roof, leather, power seats, climate control
New tires, new brakes, new timing belt
Car runs great and looks great.
Only exception is a little "hole" where it looks like an exhaust tip went through the front bumper.
Also...
1994 Lexus LS400 Anniversary Edition
123,000 miles
Two-tone pearl white/tan leather interior
Nakamichi, heated seats, trac, roof
Car is IMMACULATE cosmetically and mechanically.
Thanks a lot for the advice. The seller wants $15.5K. It is a nice car, but I don't think it is worth that much. I am willing to pay up to $13.5k. I will see if they can come down.
Thanks again.
Would still have the Corolla if well, you know.
Besides the '04 Seqouia, I was considering a '00 LX470 as a possible replacement. I saw one online, Gold, 59K miles, chromes, gold badging, incl. DVD Nav, listed for $29,9. What do you think ? I will really like to have the LX although it is marginally smaller than the Seq., but is sooooo much better quality-wise.
However, for the new 2004 Sequoia, here is the *deal on the table*:
Blue Marlin/Oak, 2004 Sequoia SR5 2WD
moonroof
fogs
3-in-1 JBL w/6-CD changer and 10 speakers
roof rack
tow package
alloy package
convenience package (keyless, dual air, etc)
side + curtain air bags
all fancy stuff like: trip computer, homelink, heated side mirrors, etc...
MSRP $36,3..... Asking $33,9
Think that a deal at $22K for my '01 for $33,900 for the '04 is a good one, or should I try to squeeze for a little extra on the trade-in to compensate ? BTW, I owe $20K on the truck, paid $37K OTD in Dec 2000.
I am looking to pull the trigger pretty soon. The '04 is a dealer-locate and will take 2 weeks to arrive if I want it.
As usual, muchos gracias for all of your kind help to us all. What will we do without your sage advice ?
Does $16.2 K sound reasonable for a clean 2003 Nissan Maxima GXE Auto with about 13k+mile on it?
This is being sold by a Nissan dealer in Southern California and he claims that this car was bought from a Rental company.
I need to make up my mind on this real soon. Thanks in advance for any suggestions / advice. I intend to do a CARFAX report before going there.

The exterior pics are awful though, with all those reflections.
Good for you for getting it cheap.
One thing to watch out for on old Nissans: Electronic parts (ECM, for instance) can be difficult and time consuming to get. Might want to keep your eyes peeled for dead ones being parted out. As long as you want to keep it going, this could last a loooong time.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
If they can do it in a 240Z ('70s), then the 240SX has much more room. I've actually done the measuring (having done 4 engine swaps) and everything works with some transmission hump "aligning" and modification.

Need trade value for:

-Mechanical: Have mechanic's report w/ checklist. On report, mechanic commented that he noticed minor engine (valve cover) leak & trans fluid leak but no other problems. 90% new brakes, 90% new front/60% rear tires (80K). Good AC. No questionable noises (like squeely brakes, belts, etc.)
-Exterior: Clean, shiny paint, few small chips, small dent on fender, new Toyota hubcaps, new hood due to deer! collision. I'll polish/wax before sale.
-Interior: Clean, newish CD Player, dashboard beginning to crack from sun
-History: Kept history since 87K, but basically nothing from previous owner. Have spreadsheet to list all of my maintenance & repair activity.
With nice hubcaps, I hope I've got a hot deal on my hands. How much for priv. party for East TN. Thanks! Will
--Tiptronic
--Sport package (16in wheels UHP summer tires, 7000 miles old)
--Premium package (Moonroof, dimming mirrors, Homelink)
--the infamous "Leatherette"
--49K miles
--No accidents. No squeaks, pings, or mechanical problems
Garage-kept and well-maintained, very good condition. Immaculate (just detailed exterior, interior, and engine) except for three tiny dings in front which I've just touched up.
I'm near Baltimore, MD.
Whaddya think for trade-in and private party?
Thanks!
Steven
1999 Chrysler 300M
Moonroof
Chrome Wheels
Grey Metallic Paint
Black Leather Interior
CD Stereo
88k miles
Exterior looks good. Only a few small scratches.
Had $1500 damage to front-end collision with a deer in January 2001.
Interior is in nice condition.
Car has had some electrical problems but they have been repaired. There have been a couple of transmission problems that have been resolved.
Personally, I had this slated to go to the Milwaukee auctions. However, I have been "strongly encouraged" to offer it to the employees.
This vehicle is located in the Chicago suburbs.
Might see the high $5's, if it's dressed for a formal dinner, glows in the dark, new rubber might-maybe-could see the mid $6's, IF you go to church alot and all goes your way .. why did you pick the Milwaukee auctions and without a dealers license who's going to rep it and flip the title ..? why not retail it ..? probably would see the $8's ..
