IOW, if you gots to have it, and can't find it otherwise, you can buy it for that and not face a spanking on RWTIV afterwards.
Hey I'm multilingual; I speak German, English, some French, and fluent Terrese...

My friend had:
1998 Chevrolet Malibu
Pretty basic - white car, steel wheels and hubcaps, power options, CD player, 90k miles, good condition considering the miles, some stone chips on the front... New brakes and rotors, new tires, new battery. $800+ sunk into it in the past 6 months. Bank says the other party's insurance company will hit it around $4k, she owes $5400. No gap insurance. What is a fair value?
She wants to buy my:
2002 Nissan Altima 2.5S
White with tan interior, power windows/locks/mirrors/seat, CD player, ABS and side balloons, about $2k in total bodywork from various incidents. Rear bumper looks acceptable now, and there's some slight overspray on the black trim on the right side. I have two keys and two remotes, all records (no major mechanical problems), and a bottle of touch-up paint. If she buys, I will replace the front tires with Michelin Hydroedges to match the rears (which are new). You pegged it at $10,900 private party about a month ago, which is the price I quoted her. Is this still a fair price? Can she roll the $1400 negative equity into the Nissan at that price?
Thanks a million - this board keeps me entertained!
(The above quote comes from a Bloom County cartoon, ca. 1988. For a copy, visit the hallway of any physics department in your area.)
Even though he knows better, the friend who wanted a $10+ nice car is thinking about this:
2000 Audi A6 2.7T quattro sedan
80k miles, no-sale blue
6sp manual (really)
Presumably leather
Carfax clean, mysterious 2,000 miles at first sale, then one Detroit owner to 80k.
First "title issued" was March of 2001, kinda late for a 2000. So that's one salty winter less to worry about.
At a Farmington Hills dealer, for the "internet special" price of $14.
TIA -Mathias

00 Audi A6 2.7 Quattro (yikes.!) (cough) with 80,000 low low low miles -if- you live in the Ukraine, 2k mystery miles - probably sold the vehicle to some fancy smancy congressman and his credit bounced back for the 3rd time, we got the no-sale blue thing going on and thats following the meat clever ...
Import dealer.? these things are kinda goofy, they still get crazy money .. ya know the deal ~ super service history, no Dutch Boys, no bend em' and mend em', no I missed the last 300 meetings of weight watchers, no curb burners, deep round things, cold breeze ..
If-if-if it's nice one, just the miles, then the dealer probably paid the high $11's low low low low $12's for it, probably did a this and that, and he's stairing down the barrel of the mid/high $12's and he's lookin' for a quick "turn and burn" at $14, can't blame em' it's got 80k .... might this one have 89,979 miles ..?

As far as the tranny, it was a sequential build of 31(?) trannys that were delivered that can be found from the service department

He thinks it's a prior rental vehicle...but in supposedly good condition.
As always, thanks for everything, you da man!!!!

Again, thank you...thank you...thank you!

We fished for 2 days, caught 15 silver salmon that we kept, caught a few others too, just weren't good enough to keep. Can't have fun like that in a motel (not to mention the cheapest ones are $100/night). We enjoyed camping, except the stupid furnace wouldn't work, dealer said nothing was wrong, just hit the reset button, I did twice and nothing happened. Oh well, its back to working now.
Air inside the house isn't smoky, so I guess Aly will stay inside for the next few days......I'm sure she will be thrilled. Its supposed to clear up Monday........course they said that about Thursday too and its still smoky.
Saw a HUGE black bear cross the road on the way home, was kinda cool.
I have to say I'm sick of Alaska (never thought I would say that) and am ready to move. Its been a HOT (many, many 90+ days) VERY smoky summer. Now we have the cold [non-permissible content removed] winter to look forward to.
I need a vacation!
As I type this it's dark and grey outside, 69F which will probably be the high for the day. That's been par for the course the last two weeks...

We also have some weather here in the midwest ... on the last trip through NW Ohio, saw the hood of an old Mustang 45ft up in the trees, gently deposited by the funnel cloud ... the rest of the car was in the bushes by US 30.

====================================
Oh, here's a nice one .. 98 Malibu, 4 banger base with 90k, oh goodness we have the power pack - how thrilling ..... it's a $1,500 vehicle ~ $2,000 on a good day with a blessing from the Pope ... $4,500.? tell her slip them the tongue and wave goodbye, thats A-L-L the money on the planet earth, and then some ....
$10,900 for a 02 Altima ..? .. does this one have 89k .... ?
Terry.
Terry.....I promise I'm staying away from the car lots.....but I am racking up bird dogs fees, fullfilling my CCB through others purchases. One of the young guys at the fire station just bought a new 2004 F-150 from the salesguy that we bought the Focus from.....ChaChing......that's $100 for me.
I'm seriously thinking about packing the camper up again and leaving.......have a huge urge to go fishing and get out of this smoke.
I'm just over this summer, its been a rough hot smoky ride and I want OFF, lol.

Rear bumper looks acceptable now, and there's some slight overspray on the black trim on the right side. (And, some hail damage repair that can be seen if you put it under really good light.) I have two keys and two remotes, all records (no major mechanical problems), and a bottle of touch-up paint. If she buys, I will replace the front tires with Michelin Hydroedges to match the rears (which are new). You pegged it at $10,900 private party about a month ago, which is the price I quoted her. The bank that financed her car told her the Malibu was a $4k vehicle with its current mileage, she's gonna be a little rattled when the other party's insurance pegs it at $2k... The deciding factor was that "some" of the damage was "near" the fuel tank, AFAIK it did suffer a bent frame in the wreck.
$10,9 is very fair, as long as it doesn't go down the road like a giant eraser .l.o.l. .. trade money would be around the mid $12's and it would see the super tall $13's low $14's down Retail Rd without the damage .. the bank shouldn't have any problem with the difference ....
That's honest and fair, just make sure the proper papers are signed and she is aware of the repair "on" paper ~ there's a new Chick on the block and her name is "Sue", she might have an uncle that knows a guy, that lives next to a sister that knew a guy and he was in the car biz 12 years ago and he says, etc etc, *CYA* ........ ~ your a good boy Charley Brown.! ...................

Winter's coming, the smoke will stop eventually. I do have to say that 80 degrees in August is VERY abnormal.
Hope you can help me on a value for this one. Looking to trade or possible retail road. Here are the details:
2004 Acura TSX
14,500 miles
Graphite exterior/Black leather interior
Only options available for this car are automatic trans and navigation system (have both)so it is loaded up.
Great condition. No door dings and interior is fresh. Tires show minimal wear. Vehicle washed once a week, and waxed every 2 months due to sun and heat here in Phoenix. Windows tinted as well. Purchased new in June 2004.
Vehicle is paid off; just looking for an SUV that is not too big that can pull a small boat in the future.
Looking to trade possibly on '04 Honda Pilot EX-L or '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Located in Phoenix AZ.
While on the subject... How bad of a resale hit would I take on an Grand Cherokee Limited or Overland if I decide on a 2 wheel drive over the 4 wheel drive here in the desert? Are the 4WD worth more in say 2-4 years?
Thanks for the help!

Me thinks Terry will advise a new dating service.
We have the nav, we have the auto thing going on, color is good on the outside, no help on the inside, we have the funeral tint and you say it's in good condition and it's nice ... if we don't have any repaints, then your driving a tall $21 low $22ish vehicle come trade side, "might" maybe "could" see a dealer struggle towards the $23,0 figure, but I have a feeling those miles will hold it back ...
Retail Rd.? .. $25,9 *asking* and off it goes for the $24,5/$25,5 figure ...... I think you have tax savings in AZ, right.? you might be better off going that route, that 15k is going to make potential buyers look on the new side .......
Me personally (depending on the size of the yacht) I would be lookin' for a super nice, clean: 15kish 02/03 4WD Explorer/GCL/Mazda Tribute/Pathfinder/Xterra/CR-V .. at least you can trade even, or a few bucks here or there ~ but your making the payments, so always buy and drive what YOU like .......................
Terry.
If it's a nice one, clean, good history, no uh oh it's Maaco, deep sneakers, serviced, then the dealer probably has the tall $10's low $11's in it, add the warranty and he's sitting "around" the $12,0 figure, on a push .. a fair price for both would be around the $13,5/13,9ish figure and $14,5 would just flat kill it ........
Good luck - let me know.!

Hey Terry. So, went to the dealership yesterday to take another look at the Passat... found a couple of things I was able to see in the daylight that I couldn't see the other night in the dark:
1) Though no odor whatsoever, think I found evidence of it having been smoked in... headliner around the doors on the driver's side is pretty dirty, as is the strip of the sunroof visor that's left exposed when the visor is open. Other than that, interior needs a good detail.
2) Looks like the bumpers might have had a couple of kisses that were taken care of... minor evidence of paint work, but only on the plastic covers... none on any metal body panels and nothing looks out of alignment.
3) There are a few tiny (pinhead) stone chips on the hood that are brown... know what I mean? I have a detail guy who can probably hit those with some rust inhibitor and then dots of touch-up/clear coat, though.
Other than those things, car seems OK... carfax came back clean, drives nice. Should I be concerned about those items above, especially #1? We ended up agreeing on an even $14K, BTW, but I told the salesman that I wanted a very thorough detail, including getting the headliner clean... is that even possible?
Any thoughts you have on this would be appreciated... THANKS!
Jeff
Jeff
Getting the detail is smart, the headliner can be cleaned and should look new, sometimes the biggest dirt in the world comes from the transport co's when they climb in and out when they were originally new .. getting the hood and the rest "buffed" out will give you a better idea of the care (or lack of) from the previous owner .. bumpers are bumpers, all those Wal-Mart assassins wait for days until a nice vehicle rolls in and they hit those bumpers, just make sure the paint is right and the clear coat isn't rolling off ..
When you get there, literally rotate the vehicle 360 degree's in the light and look at the whole deal .. they might think your crazy, but it's your $14,0 big ones ..... other than that, it sounds nice.
let me know ..............
Terry.
I meant to say the TSX was purchased new in June 2003, not 2004. If I drove 14k miles in a little over 2 months I would be on a bicycle!
Does this make a difference on the value?

===========================
I "thought" you meant 03 .. the buyers are still thinking it's a "04" market and most will think "04" til' the spring of 05 depending on what part of the country .. so there's no extra "Ooh Ooh cookies" for you ...
Terry.
let me know ..............
Terry.
======================================
Oh, believe me... they already think I'm crazy.
Anyway, thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
Paint work looked good on the bumpers - color matched and no signs of cracking or anything... just the usual tell-tale signs if you look real close.
Glad that it sounds like the headliner should come clean... makes me feel better. Now let's see if they actually try! ;P
So, you think the freckles on the hood are NBD if I have them taken care of as I mentioned?
And, given these items, still think I did OK @ $14,0?
Thanks again!
Jeff
PS - " it's like describing a hot chick from South Beach"... LOL!
"sounds like" the vehicle was driven thru a few winters with little or no protection -but- find out what the final product looks like .. if you feel uncomfortable, then don't purchase it...

These are pretty nice little dudes, another best kept secret, especially the ES model ....
This one is a 00 with 54k, foggers, spoiler, auto, abs, black is good in Mass, side balloons ... if it's clean, deep in the rubber department, no American fry invasions, no paint by numbers and the service is 100% .. then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $4's, maybe the low low low low low $5's if it's super nice and it needs -0- ... this a great little vehicle down Retail Rd, $7,495 *asking* and let that dawg go for the first $6,5/$6,9 .. don't forget the the super detail and the great Ad to make it work ...............
