2000 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Extra Cab
V6 2 wheel drive 5Spd
89,000 miles
White exterior, tan interior
bucket seats, AC, cruise, tilt, power windows, locks, clock, amfm/cd/csassette, remote keyless entry, alarm, sliding rear window, chrome rear step bumper.
tires about 50% brakes about 50%
oil changed every 5,000 miles, well maintained, but, it has been used as a truck, the bed has numerous scrathes inside, but has a rubber bed mat.
Interior is clean, no tears, no rips, a couple of minor plastic scuffs on the glove box door, and above the speaker on pass. door. Orig floor mats have protected the carpet, but the drivers mat has a hole worn it it..We think it is best to show truck without the worn matts. ??
The exterior of the truck looks good, a couple of very minor dings, but overall looks fine..Paint is shiny, chrome is bright, all wheel covers look good...
Also, it has RED campershell (on a white truck) The shell looks poor, fiberglass paint is peeling. We wonder if it is best to leave it off the truck for showing, then perhaps offer it up as an extra, during negotiations, or show the truck with it. What do you think???
Thanks Terry!

Hi Terry,
I am starting to shop for a 2002 Lexus SC430. Since there are no options, I was expecting asking prices at dealerships to be fairly consistent... Boy, was I wrong! Looking at 2002's only, and in the mileage range of 20k-30k miles, I have found asking prices of $43,000 to $55,000. I am wondering what these cars really go for at auction to know what a fair offer is to make for the car. I live in the Chicago area, and am looking for either white, black, or red, and something with 20k-30k mi. I understand that if the car is Lexus certified, then it will have additional cost beyond auction price, but a $12,000 window makes me worry about the car's actual cash value. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ryan

In Chi-Town ... super nice clean, pampered 02 SC430's, miles in the 20/25k range, clean paint, perfect history, no love taps, no curb burns, seats have been hovered in .. if so, they are doing the strong $42/$43,0 range, so figure a little auction fee $400, a little transport $250, a service here and there $300 add a little CPO action $1,200 and they should be hitting the table at in and around the $45ish range ... a fair price for both would be in and around $49,9 or less ..... $55,000.? - ok, I have this really nice Timex I can sell you you for $2,500 ..... the main reason why dealers use optimum retail figures is for the guy thats trading in his 90k 99 ES300 with all the dings and dents and wants $14k for a $7,500 vehicle ...
Let me know how it goes in Chi-town.

Was wondering what the trade in would be at a Honda Dealer for a 2003 Odyssey with leather (no DVD or Nav). Flawless, 23K mi. Bay Area.
======================================
Flawless.? .. you mean you kept it in a dehumidified garage, then only ran the miles in a dynamonitor and it's never seen a street.?
In the land of the Peterson trial we have a 03 Ody-L with 23k and hydes .. depending on the color and how perfect it might be, trade side in and around the super tall $19's low low $20ish figure ..... what were they offering.?
Terry.
Hey Terry, you should start chaging a buck a piece for each quote you do. You would be a multi-thousandaire by now...
Here's what I need trade-in/private party pricing for (will that cost 2 bucks?)
98 chevy s10 LS
v6 (not High Output)
5 speed manual
ext cab, third door
bed liner, bug deflector, diamond plate tool box
am/fm cassette
white with tan interior
102k miles, small rocks chips in bumper and hood
Never wrecked and average interior
regular maintenance, 100k tune-up done at 80k
50% on tires
With this long list of specs, I hope I didn't forget anything obvious. Also, where should I send the 2 dollars? I'm in Vegas so can I send you one of those recipts that the slot machines pay out with nowdays?
Thanks, Steve

I posted this a few days ago and wanted to bump up the question...
2003 Infiniti FX35 RWD - Laser Red
12,200 miles
Sport & Touring Packages
Sirius Radio
Flawless condition except for one small dent in back bumper, Carmax did not take any value away because of it, they only took off because the vehicle is red.
KBB Trade-In Value $32,250
CarMax offer $28,000
I'm going to a BMW dealer tomorrow night to see what they will give me for the Infiniti. I doubt it will be any better than Carmax, but it's worth a try. I also considered selling it but it seems that a 2004 can be had for $34,000 or so. I'm curious to see what values you come up with.

Looking for realistic trade value.
2001 Protege LX 2.0 5-spd
54k miles
Emerald Mica (drk green) ext, beige int.
Options include sunroof/keyless entry/alloys/ABS-SAB package.
One-owner, non smoker.
Clean title (no accidents)
Maintened per recommended schedule.
Interior is immaculate.
Exterior shines like new (always garaged, waxed 3 or 4 times per year). Has usual rock chips in front, small scratch on hood, small parking lot dent on drivers door, small dime-sized paint chip in rear bumper.
Tires are original w/ roughly 30% tread left (most of the 54k miles were highway).
Brake pads have 30% left (verified by local Mazda dealer).
Car's located in the Detroit/Flint area (far northern Detroit suburbs).
What's it worth for trade? How about private party sale?
Thanks!
Mike
No smacks or dings or drive-by shootings. Inside it has typical wear from hauling stuff and kid. Overall, I'd say it's very clean (no DNA or french fries).
How much should I expect on trade? Thanks in advance!!!
However, if you say a new one can be bought for around $34,000 the Carmax offer of $28,000 seems fair. You gotta think they will want to sell it for enough to make a profit but have to price it far enough below the new one to make it worth it for someone. Your car is going on two years old now that the 05's are out.
I guess I'm just shocked at the difference between KBB value and what is apparently Real World Value. When I explained my whole sob story of why I hate Infiniti to my local dealer (finance dept) he came up with a value of 27,000. I'm very interested to see what BMW and Terry come up with.

.... Every Carmax is different .. the Carmax in LA will be putting different money in a FX than one thats in Denver, Tulsa or Chicago .. that being said, they will probably put different money in one thats in Sacramento or Seattle depending on the time of the year and their current inventory - "and color" .. red is not a big seller in most SUVS, Lexus made a reddish maroonish monotone color for the RX300 and the ES300 and they were a $1,000ish deduct if they had really really really low miles, if they had just average miles or more they were a $2,000ish deduct, cold - very cold color in SUV's ..................

Hello ...........................
I'm about to buy that truck and trade them the TT for $18,500
The only quasi reasonable private party offer I got on the TT was $21,000...of course trade with tax advantage is like $20k, so the $1k difference isn't worth the inconvenience. Got another of $19k, and another of $18k. I told those two where to stuff it.
================================
Thats a fair price for the Tacoma - even with the handshaker .. I would try them at $14,9 and see what happens ... probably $15,5 gets it home.
Vehicles can be a lot like boats come that September/October time, especially sport types like the TT's ... the time to be cutting those from the herd is in that June/July time frame when everyone is looking for them .. when the leaves start falling, so does the prices .. Up north, dealers will be loaded up in boats and RV's - and so will be the auctions.

How much do you owe on this dude.?
Right color anywhere, miles are still short, cold pack, slider, sounds like the right stuff ... if we haven't had any visits to Maaco, no Buckeye bumps, still looks and smells "showroom" .. trade side, in and around the mid/tall $23's "maybe" might get a dealer to drop the low low low low low $24's in it - lots of "C" classes for sale right now, on the dealer and the private side .. the miles save this one, if it had 15/20k it would be worth $20/$21ish - maybe ....
Let me know what happens ...!

Good morning Mike, reposting is a "Good" thing .....
These are pretty nice little drivers .. this one has a handshaker, so no help there, miles are lowish for the year, it's an 2.0 LX, we have the no-sale green thing with tan guts, we have the side balloons with the slider and the service is up to date, but it needs some rubber and stoppers ..... trade side, in and around the mid/tall $5's, might "maybe" could see a dealer travel towards the low low low low low $6's, big maybe though ~ the meat clever holds it back, I bet $double nickels will kill it .... great vehicle for Retail Rd, superb detail, wonderful Ad and $7,900 *asking* and $6,9/$7,5 gets a new owner .....

So I take it that you agree that deducting $4200 or so because an SUV is red is a little extreme.
I'm thinking I will price it around 5500??? Edmunds trade-in is $4,502...
in july, we gave an actual cash value of $3000 for this exact car (color and everything), with 51k miles. this car was front-line ready when we got it, and only had to do a simple safety inspection.
we listed it on the lot at $5995, but the banks would only loan $4950, so thats what we sold it for.
if you are trading, i would expect about $2700-$2800, less any reconditioning that is necessary. privately, i would *ask* $4495, and grab the first $3800-$4200 that comes along.
the handshaker kills it along witht the armstrong windows.

I think you qualify for a Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous membership. Check with akangel to confirm...
Anyway, friend wants me to look at a mini van for him in town, before he drives down here to look at it. I'm concerned there's something up w/ this deal...
1999 Toyota Sienna XLE, at, full pwr, fully loaded, lthr int, green, 90k miles, 3rd row seat, dual ac, $7900
Charlotte, NC
That's all I know so far...
My friend called the guy, confirmed he had it, and at this price. It's on a small lot somewhere on the edge of town, have to go out of my way to go there, so wanted to know what to look for once I got there. I tried to call, but they were closed already.
On Edmunds, it shows clean trade at $9505, and Avg trade at $7579, so I thought I'd get the inside scoop in here!
Any thoughts?

Hey knothead .. thats "my" response to you from your post, you just missed the post from a few days ago ..... color kills it, $28 might be a little extreme, but I wouldn't want one for anymore than $29,0 ~ on a push ............

Mornin' Dave, Tuscon eh.? .. I wasn't to far from you in the last week, playing a little golf in Scottsdale .... (Mercury Minneapolis .l.o.l.) ...
Good description, thanks .... for starters, kick that friggin' red topper off, I'm happy Boston won but not enough to lose a sale with, spend $150ish and drop a liner in it and get new mats .... it's a 00 Yota Coma' SR5 with a handshaker, white is good in Tucson, 89k, cold breeze, V6, 2WD, Ecab, power pack ...
Sounds like a visit to the *Dukes of Detail* it needs to get that "clean" look, finish any service - remember, dirty vehicles get dirty money and clean vehicles get clean money, so spend a few bucks and then get a great 4/5 liner Ad on the biggest paper in the area - $10,900 *asking* and off it goes for the first $9,5/$10,5 .. watch the ego on this price point, lots of folks have $9,900 or less, but it seems few have $10ish .....
Don't forget to let me know what happens, or I will throw my 9 iron at your garage the next time I'm in the area .........

The Chicago to Houston transplant, right.?
03 FX35 2wd black with all the stuff and 26k .... sounds like the tall $27ish figure, maybe a low low low $28ish vehicle to me, "might" maybe get a dealer to wander into the tall $28ish figure because of the Disney package and all the stuff, black doesn't help it, but summer is over even in H-Town ...
The Pilot .. thats a whole different enchilada, this will all depend on "who" looks at it, is it on Carfax.? .. someone might just open a door and do a minor walk around or less, then someone might open the hood and see all the new bolts and pieces - it's hard to say, a pro will spot this with a close look and an Elco ~ or maybe not .l.o.l.. ... this one also has all the stuff, but the miles are a little tall for the year and it's black - it's a wild guesstamation here, somewhere between $12,0 and $25 grand ..... now there's a spread ........
Let me know .. I will be interested on how this one goes ...
