Terry, If you get the time this beautiful holiday weekend to give me a value on the '01 Alty, would be much appreciated. Anyone else can chime in to with your valuation. I'm still thinking $6k or maybe a bit higher should get this puppy out of my garage. The a/c will be getting fixed today. Really is a great little car, can haul a-s when it has to also! Thanks all and G-d bless America and THANK YOU to all our soldiers...past, present & future for keeping America the greatest country in the world!
I'm in NY looking at a CPO BMW 2002 330 CIC. The dealer took $2000 off his asking price of $37,900, making my purchase price $35,900. I checked various valuation sites such as Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, NADA, and others, and the $35,900 is consistent with retail prices.
The car has 26,000 miles, auto trans, premium and cold weather packages among other features. $35,900 seems a little high, is this a good price, or should the price be lower?
Hi All! Hope that the holiday weekend finds everyone well! My hubby has posted here before, but I have a question... I've found a 04 LS V6 Premium. It's @ the military sales lot. It is still new, but wanted to know if its a good buy. From what I've read here @ Edmunds; you should never buy this car new. Too much of a loss on it. So here goes... Hopefully someone can give me some advice. Germany... so pick any area back in the States. 2004 Lincoln LS Premium 4 dr 3.0 L V6 auto RWD 38 miles Black/Black Perforated Leather >16" Chrome Aluminum Wheels; 6 Disc CD Changer; Heated/Cooled front seats; >>AdvanceTrac ( AVS ); HID headlamps; Power adjust pedals, Security >Approach Lamps w/ key pad on drivers door & Premium Package. Also an extended warrenty for 7yr/75,000 miles and Ziebart Vech. Protection Warrenty. New Condition; never owned & rarely test driven >Tires are new Brakes are new No maintenance work The total price after rebates= $33,253
Is this still too much for this type of car? I don't know of the reliablitly or long term dependability or resale on the LS. The dealer is offering over $10,000 in rebates. Any thoughts? I have test drove the Volvo S80 & BMW 5. The LS is comparable to the 5 with a more "cushy ride". I like the LS better than the Volvo... Still its a lot of $$ for a car! :confuse:
I agree with corvette that the price "sounds" high. Knowing how most bmw dealers price used cars, it might be very high. But you should ask Terry when he gets back; & "repost" if need be. Also, paying NADA or Edmunds Retail Price for a used car almost guarantees you'll be overpaying in most cases IMO.
You said it. Usually better to lease one of these as the depreciation is so bad. You'd be much better off with a bmw IMO, even going with a 3-Series.....either that, or buy a used LS in the $$ 'teens or low $20's.
*From what I've read here Edmunds; you should never buy this car new. Too much of a loss on it*
Hi everyone, Looking to trade in my Volvo for a Nissan Pathfinder Location: Seattle, WA
2004 Volvo XC70 wagon) 2.5L Turbo 11800 miles Color exterior: Metallic Ash (Gold) Color interior: Brown leather (only avail with metallic ash, I believe) Premium Pkg (Sunroof, Leather, both driver and passenger power seats) Climate Pkg (Dual climate control, heated seats) A la carte: Wooden steering wheel, auto-dimming rear view mirro, Integrated air quality system (IAQS), additional power outlet in the rear, rear parking sensor Standard CD/Tape cassette player Both interior and exterior in excellent condition
Dealer let me take the '05 Nissan Pathfinder overnight and I wanted to know what I should expect in terms of trade-in value tomorrow morning
I'm looking to trade two vehicles, and need to get some reasonable numbers to determine if or how far upside-down I am. zip = 63119 1999 BMW 528i 4dr sedan Premium package Leather Moonroof Heated seats and steering wheel new tires 87K miles Very good condition
2003 jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L High Output multi disc CD quadra drive moonroof tire pressure monitor heated seats tow package 48K very good condition
Our representative from the Post Office went on vacation a few months ago, and we haven't heard from him since. Since Terry has NO idea where 63119 is, how's about posting city and state?
Terry, Well I am back from Iraq and first I would like to say that I really appreciate the touch of normalcy that Edmunds provided while I was deployed. The Internet is great for the troops that have ready access to it.
One of the first things that needed to be done when I returned was to get my wife into a car she liked and felt that she could see out of. Using the numbers you gave me:
"We have a 04 Chrysler Pacifica AWD ... the miles are a little tall for the year, good color for the area, leather, we have some factory paint and some: "let's play doggems" to the rear bumper, these came with all the stuff, but no slider and no Disney package (no big deal) ..... trade side, depending on the dealer, in and around the super tall $18's low/mid $19's .. keep all of factory paperwork on the paint, this way (if they ask) you can show the warranty .."
I surrendered ownership of the Pacifica for $17,800 at a local Honda dealership and my wife chose a new 2005 Accord LX as her new grocery getter. The Pacifica was a huge loser financially and I wanted a better financial investment this time. I am very happy with my wife's choice of the Accord and she has promised to keep it for many years to come. We shall see........
Thanks again for the help and the TMV Edmunds provides also helped me get the Accord at $19,497 without any haggling.
Take care and keep the others still stuck in Iraq in your thoughts.
Be careful driving! From this week's AutoWeek: "Carrying a steeled sense of invincibility, this country's fighting daughters and sons come home from war zones and get into motor vehicle accidents at a disproportionately alarming rate."
Atlanta, GA 2001 PT Cruiser LTD Edition 4 cyl, auto 52xxx Silver, Taupe leather interior Alloys, cruise, tilt/slide roof, traction control, front and side air bags, CD, pwr windows and doors tires less than a year old parking lot dings outside 1 burn inside runs fine, all routine maintenance done Let me know what to expect. The cute factor has worn off for my wife and she wants a sedan! ======================================
In Hotlanta ...... we have this cute little 01 PT Cruiser LTD, we have 52k, good color for the area, we got leather guts, wheels, slider, power pack, side balloons, newish round things things, the service is up to date and a few K-mart kisses here and there ... no hits no runs no errors.? if so ... then trade side, in and around the super tall $6's, might "maybe" see the low/mid $7's on a really good day ......

Thanks Capt. Phil for the update .......
$17,800..? seems a little light on the trade ... maybe the factory paint was a little weak .. but I have a feelin' trading at a Honda store wasn't any help ...... anyway you have a new vehicle and the Mrs is happy, so enjoy.!

I'm a newbie to this forum. I posted this yesterday, but left out some details so here's another shot. By the way (and more importantly) where were you golfing and how did you hit em?
I'm looking to trade two vehicles on the purchase of a new '05 Expedition Limited. I'd like to get some reasonable numbers to determine if or how far upside-down I am. Home is St. Louis, MO Cars are: 1999 BMW 528i 4dr sedan Premium package Leather - Premium Package Moonroof Heated seats and steering wheel - Cold Weather Package new tires 87K miles Have a connection who does paintless dent removal so the body is 100% door ding free. Very good condition. In fact it will hurt to let this one go.
2003 jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L High Output multi disc CD quadra drive moonroof tire pressure monitor heated seats tow package 48K Once again no dings. very good condition, but I won't mind trading up to a Yukon or Expedition.
.... **I've heard a lot about this board over the years, so finally decided to jump in. Imagine my "interest" when I learned that there are 26.5K posts. Wow! I've read through the first several hundred and am currently watching the baton being passed from Bill to Terry. More fun to come as I continue to read the old stuff. Much knowledge dispersed about the car business. Thanks. Here's my question. If my car is worth anything north of $1.85, I'll be stunned: 2000 Lincoln LS V6 -- Phoenix, AZ Manual (yup, you read it right) transmission 79K miles Sport Package (shocks, springs, oil cooler) Graphite Blue (just like the Tauri) New tires (Khumo -- just wore out a set of Michelin Pilots) Audio options only (Alpine + 6-disc CD system) -- this is a stripper (what I don't have can't break) Here's a question: Does "paintwork" mean paint work, or does it really mean body work? I have a number of minor scrapes & dings from parking and parking lot experience, but no crash damage. Am I better off to get these little things touched up and painted, or to leave them as they are? Wow, maybe I'll get $2.47 instead of $1.85. Ain't life grand? I bought into the LS thing when it first came out, and I'm now a walking monument to why no one should ever (ever, ever) buy an American car new, especially in the first model year. Some are better than others. This one is the worst, when it comes to unloading it (an appropriate phrase). I think they're wrapping something between 3 & 7 large around each one today, and that's after the "upgrade" in 2002 (500+ improvements -- gotta love it). Strangley enough, the thing runs fine & may continue to do so for the next 1 - 5 years. I'm thinking I should drive it till it drops, then set fire to it (legally, with witnessed, marshmallows & drinks aplenty). The reality is that after five years, I'd like a change. Whether I'll get one remains to be seen. I can take your answer. . .I think. Anyone want to guess whether my next car will be American?** .. ==============================================
In Phoenix ... I've lost quite a few golf balls out that way, especially around Scottsdale ...
As far as "paintwork" is concerned ... we're talking about the guy that bounces off the fence at Wal-Mart and does $3,300 worth of damage because the front fender has to be replaced or filled, then shot and blended with the hood and door with new paint .. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, it depends on the body shop ...... dings and dents.? well they can usually be handled by the Dent Doctor and they usually they can get to 80%+ of them ....
This is a 2000 Lincoln LS V6 with 80k ... we got a handshaker here and this can kill the value, there's only 2 or 3 vehicles out there that it can almost kinda help and one of them being a Porsche 911 (if ya get my drift) "and" it's a V6, so no help there unless your a blue hair, and speaking of blue ~ the color is ho-hum and the tall miles aren't your friend here .. I didn't see a slider here, and power "moons" can make a big difference on Luxo/sport types .. try selling a Bimmer without one, you'll have a better chance getting the Mumps ..l.o.l...
So based on your description, --if-- the rubber is new, the service is a 100%, the air blows Polar and the interior doesn't have that 350lb "look" ... then trade side in and around the mid/tall $6's and the low low low low $7's on a real good day ......... maybe consider Retail Rd, get with the Dent Doctors, get a killer detail, drop a super 4/5 liner Ad in the Big paper and: $9,900 *asking* and cut it loose for the first $8,9/$9,5 ....
In all fairness ... I'm not real big on "most" of the "first model year" types and my customers know it .. just take a read on all of the Bimmer, Benz posts .......... what price glory...?
Went to a local (well not so local) dealer in my area and they offerred 10K for the trade. This is above blue book and apparently well above Black Book, but I am just curious on the actual wholesale market, what is a fair trade value? On the flip side, NADA is a bit higher at 11K and Edmunds is around 10.4K.
Recap: 60115, IL (Dekalb County) 2001 Ford Mustang Convertible 3.8L V6 - Auto RWD 36K Miles Silver w/Black Leather Int Premium Pkg Includes: 6 Disc In Dash CD (Mach Audio) Pwr Driver Seat Alloy Rims Traction Control Rear spoiler
A small crack on very front of hood (about 2 inches long) with a few minor scratches that can be buffed out pretty easily. On the crack, I've been quoted about 300-400 to repair from body shops. Other than that the exterior is in great condition, the interior is in excellent condition and tires in good condition (maybe 10-15% worn). No accidents or any other damage.
Can't believe after 4 years, I'm still upside down (well, depending on who you ask)
Terry, please evaluate the following for trade-in.
Tucson, AZ 2003 Toyota Highlander NON Limited V6 2wd 25,000 miles Gold/ ivory cloth interior From the orig Monroney: ..Roof rack, moonroof, tow prep, tow hitch, alloy wheels (5), mud guards, privacy glass, keyless entry, tonneau cover, 8 way power drivers seat, homelink, engine immobilizer, carpet/cargo mat set, rear spoiler. Added: auto-dimming rear view mirror w/compass, fog lights
This vehicle has been well cared for: oil changed every 4-5k, tires rotated (5) waxed every 6 mnths, garaged, no dents scratches, tires are orig, but appear to have about 10,000 miles left (est) still decent amount of tread showing. Brakes? orig 4 wheel disc. Most miles have been highway, so I bet over 50% left on brakes..no bodywork or ins claims.
Also, even tho it has tow stuff, it has never towed anything.
you might have this one to the point where it almost gives you "free" miles. That is, it has depreciated so much, that it might not change much (retail pricing) in another year or two. If it is reliable, and doesn't kill you on repairs/maintenance, it can be a cheap way to drive for a while.
In other words, you did all the hard work to eat the drop in value, might as well enjoy the good times.
I bought the car before all the smoking-deal rebates & $10K discounts, so when those started, the value of a used LS took a huge beating. Good for all those who came after, but not so for me. . .or the other '00 LS owners. So far it's been reasonably reliable, and if that keeps up a few more years, I'll have gotten my value out.
thanks in advance for the help. we are purchasing a subi lgt ltd wagon to replace the saab..my wife needs the extra utility of the wagon...anyway we need to sell the saab:
99 9-5 4 cylinder turbo se, auto, black/ dark grey leather. 102k miles (mixed local/highway), auto, leather, sunroof, good tires. never hit/no body work. car shows some signs of its age (door dings, some normal scratches, etc) but is running great mechanically. looks great all waxed up. car is loaded including front/rear heated seats and front vented seats.
curious what people think this is worth in a private sale..sf bay area.
This is not Rocket Science, to figure out that buying a brand new Lincoln (or even worse, a 2 yr. old one at new prices) is a really bad investment. Read a couple of posts past yours, where someone is trying to sell an LS they bought new. Here's an excerpt:
* I bought into the LS thing when it first came out, and I'm now a walking monument to why no one should ever (ever, ever) buy an American car new, especially in the first model year. Some are better than others. This one is the worst, when it comes to unloading it (an appropriate phrase).*
San Francisco Bay Area, CA (94710) 1999 VW Passat GLS 4dr 1.8L Turbo Tiptronic automatic RWD or FWD 34,000 mi -- used on weekends Windsor Blue (metallic dark blue)/Beige cloth automatic, moonroof, alloy wheels Condition: major parking wear on back bumper two long, very visible scratches on rear trunk a few minor scratches and dings on rest of body faint, medium-size coffee stain on front passenger seat rear seat beverage holder broken no kids, 1 regular canine passenger interior has been smoked in (is there a way to remove the smell? probably not) replaced floor mats -- they're the all-weather kind though, not carpet new tires 2,500 mi ago brake pads and rotors replaced 1,000 mi ago dealer maintenance at appropriate mileage markers 3 panels on driver side were fixed and repainted ($2700 repair) after an accident in 1999 -- a tow truck dropped its load while I was standing at stoplight
I'm wondering if it's worth getting the scratches and parking wear or anything else fixed before trade-in.

Are you saying an *04*..? .... these are nice cars and lots of Bang for the buck --if-- you buy them used, not new .. this one is a V6 and it's gonna be a "black" vehicle in Florida (Yikes.!) ....
I buy tons of these and most of the customers are Ford employee's ..... 04's with all the stuff and miles in the 4/5/6k range are doing the $20/$21 figure at the auctions, so I have a stupid feelin' you can buy one for "around" $24 or less, the V6's aren't on anyones "most wanted list" ... the V8's with all the toys and miles in the 5/7/9k range are doing "around" the $23/$24ish range, and I'm sure you can get one for around the $26ish range ........ plenty of loaded up *2005* V8's at the southern auctions with miles in the 4/6/8k range for the $26ish range, and I have another stupid feelin' you can snatch one of those for the $29ish zipcode ...........
Sure nice to seee that you are still here ! I have half a mind to order you to immediate retirement and a life of golf, fishing and snorkling.... hehehehe.. I wish, don't I ? But like everyone else here, I need your help, so don't go off into any retirement yet.
I am dying to get rid of my wife's Sequoia. She's been holding a gun to my head (well, not literarirly, I hope you know that) to hold on to this beast. I want out, and I am about to buy her a nice lightly used LX470. So here is my question to you:
To buy:
2003 LX470 16K miles Loaded with all the toys (as ad claims) Beige/tan Looks in mint condition (owner bought a 750iL and wants out of the truck) Dealer-installed rear DVD Located in La Jolla, CA (across the freeway from my house) Asking 46,900 OBO (private party sale)
So what should I offer on this truck ?
To sell:
2001 Sequoia SR5 2WD 62K miles Silver/gray All leather seating (includes third row) Dual A/C, privacy glass, roof rack, No towing hitch, a few scratches on the rear bumper, a small dent on the tail gate door, broken off trunk closer strap (I suppose I could fix all of these for a few hundred nickels, right ?) WIll install new Michelin Cross Terrains (soon) Will replace rear brakes (soon) Will detail to glow-in-the-dark (soon) Located in San Diego, CA
What should this puppy go for after taking care of all the imperfections? I am thinking $17-18K private party, or $15K dealer-trade.
Welcome back, Terry. Thanks in advance for any info.
Location: Austin, Texas 1999 Maxima SE Body Style: 4dr Engine: 3.0 liter V6, auto Driveline: FWD Mileage: 79,000 Color: Gold with gray cloth interior
Major Options: Moonroof, standard SE package, aftermarket tint. No radio (it’s “pre-wired for aftermarket audio”: Bose exploded, aftermarket components come with me but wiring stays, no Swiss Army knife on the install).
Condition: Looks well-maintained and cleans up good, exterior looks good, minor door dings and front-end rock chips, interior clean. Tires have 7K miles on 'em, brakes 10K, struts 2K. Maintenance is current, with records (30/60K maint, oil changes every 3-4K). Runs and drives great, never had any major mechanical issues. I’m the second owner, had it since April 2002 at 21000 miles.
Bad news: Rear-ended in April 2003 (doesn’t show up on CarFax). No frame/mechanical damage; got hit by a jacked-up Ford Ranger, which rode up over my bumper and took out the sheet metal, I drove away from the wreck. Repaired damage to rear bumper, right rear quarter, trunk lid and floor.
Looking for trade-in numbers, but it may be “all bets are off” due to the wreck... also wondering if I should drop in a cheap aftermarket radio and speakers before trading, or if it even makes a difference since the original Bose is gone.

Hey Oac, how goes it..? .. yep, I still pop my head in and read all the madness .. it's kinda like the Jerry Springer show ..l.o.l....... your not to far from my Aunt in San Clemente, about 50ish miles if I remember correctly ...
Ooooh, only 16k..? .. right color and he's only *asking* $46,900.? did I read this right.?? ...... hmmm, seems kinda cheap for a nice clean low miler, especially when dealers will pay aaall of $45,0 and if I made some calls to the right people I could get $46,0 from a dealer close to you and he could sell it for $49,900 on a phone call in about 3.5 minutes ......
2 things going on here .. he's got more money than sense --or-- it's been whacked and they had to do $12,000 worth of repairs to make it right, I dunno which one .. so check reeeeal close ....
The Sequoia SR5 2wd.? ... miles are okay for the area, color is right, we got the leather stuff, 3rd seat, the dual breeze, solar glass, got some bumps and lumps in the transom area - some stuff needs to be fixed or replaced and it needs some rubbers, stoppers need some stopping power and a real good bath for the upcoming Hollywood appearance .... trade side, in and around the super tall $15's low low $16's ... down Retail Rd, you know the drill by now: $19,900 *asking* and whine and cry at $18,5/$19,0 -- but take it ...
Wow !!! That was quick.... I'll be checking the car out tonight to see for myself what all the fuss is all about. I was kinda worried about the price, especially since it included the *OBO* part, like the price wasn't low enough already ! Yikes !!
As for the Sequoia, I'll do the *this-and-that* fix it real good and resell myself. If I get $18,5K I'll buy you a KEG of beer and have it shipped to your aunt's place in San Clemente
Thanks a lot for your help, and please keep up the GREAT work you do around here...Hope your business is thriving a million-fold too...

I'm looking into a new 2005 Tribute (probably V6). Anything I should know about like upcoming better deals in the new future? I have the following for trade in and was wondering what range I should ask for on these two.
Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas 2002 Mazda 4dr Tribute ES 3.0 V6 Auto FWD 52,700 miles Black exterior with grey leather interior alloys, sun roof, towing packing, wood grain interior trim
Interior and exterior are clean with minor dings and scratches. No claims or repaints, etc. Tires need to be replaced soon.

Interior and exterior are clean with minor dings and scratches. 1 claim pending for small dent on driver door smaller than the size of a fingernail.
Also, should I get the dent fixed (about $300 - $500) or trade it in as is?
Thanks Terry! and everyone else who has offered great advise! I showed my hubby the resale and the info that you gave on what we could get a used LS for.... he almost had a golden cow. SO it's back to the car market I go! Who knew that it would be this much work to find the right car at the right price! I think that I got more than I bargained for when I set out to find a new car!!
Thanks again for the help! It is greatly appreciated! By us and our bank account~
I am new to this topic but have been daily reader in most of the other forum topics. We are looking for some advice in a recent mistake we made in buying our last car. At the time we were looking at getting either a Honda Civic or an Accord...we messed around a little and kick some tires and decided to get the Civic. We now however think we made the wrong choice in car. I know....I know...people are going to read this and say what a dumb [non-permissible content removed]! But now that we have this cleared up, we were wondering what type of deal we could get on this trade....your not going to believe this...but here it goes...
2005 Honda Civic EX Special Edition 4 Door Automatic Tango Red (We live in Tampa, FL by the way) Actual Mileage: 275 miles (wow!) Showroom Condition...(in fact it might be cleaner now than when I took delivery!)
If you could please give us any info on possible trade in numbers that would be great (assuming you have stopped shaking your head and laughing ) ) I know...I know...(what a dumb [non-permissible content removed]!) We would like to think that we are not the only ones that have made a mistake like this...but maybe we are the only ones that would admit to it. Thanks oh mighty car guy for your help!!!!! Your advice could save my marriage (Just kiddin' but the couch is getting old)

The miles are short, the color is good for the area - and black seats don't help convertibles even up north, we have a kiss on the hood, we have a V6, auto, tunes, power seat, wheels and you say it's in pretty good condition .... $10,0 is BIG money on the trade side, so the dealer knows he can find a home for it quickly .. but if I were you, I would be going down Retail Rd .. super detail, fix the nose, great Ad and: $12,950 *asking* and send it south for the first "real deal" $11,5/$12,5 ... it's summer up there and this is the time to be selling converts, boats and motorcycles ... properly done I bet you can get $12,0 for it ......

Coming back for more on another "undesirable to everyone but me" car. If you get a chance terry, a retail value for car below would be great. kbb has $32.5K, Edmunds says $26.2K and clearly someone is very wrong.
Location: San Jose, CA Year/Make/Model: 2003 Saab 9-3 Body Style: Convertible Engine: Stock 4-cyl turbo Driveline: FWD with three pedals and a meat cleaver between the seats Mileage: 11,500 Color: No sale blue with grey leather intererior Major Options: Nothing, but it is the 'vert which comes standard with most stuff--heated seats and on star and all that. Condition: looks pretty darn new to me all over except a very slight amount of interior wear. Tires and brakes are original, but with only 11K on them, they are looking pretty good
Terry, what's a late vin 2004 Touareg V8 with no options, say 1 year into the new car warranty and under 10k, worth on a trade in southern Cal? Different in other parts of the country?
Went up to check out the '03 LX470. Car was real nice... a real doll, you'd call it, Terry. But here is the scoop. It ran into something on the rear driver side door. Fixed up real good by the body shop. You cannot tell. Car really is still new, smells and drives new as well.
Trouble is the owner decided she's had enough of low-ballers on her truck. Seemed like someone called and offered $45,5K and I offered $46K. So she decided she ain't selling it any longer, and its off the market, at least that's what she told me. I then offered her asking price, and she said she'd think about it but she is inclined to not sell the truck any longer. I am disappointed. I am kicking myself not simply offering her asking price right off the bat.
Oh well, the search continues..... Thx once again, just providing you an update as you so often request.
It is practically a new truck with only 16K baby miles, and try buying it brand new, it will run you $65K and change. According to Terry, dealers will sell this truck for $50K in all of a femto-second, so at $46K, it is a *bargain* as it had depreciated by $20K over 18 months of ownership. Seemed like a fairly good deal to me....And I think Terry would agree as well, right Terry ?
Well, I couldn't tell if he thot 46 was a lot or a little, but it seems to be about kbb trade-in value for a loaded 03 LX470, so it seems like a good deal (though I assume as a trade they would offer less). They do seem to hold their value. Asking prices at dealer lots are merely advertising however. You have to find out what they really have in the car and what they'll take for it.
The real purpose of my reply is to ask a general question of Terry and anyone else who has an opinion. The assumption seems to be that low miles are good. Isn't it possible that a low miles car reflects a lot of cold starts and short drives, or problems with the car, or general dissatisfaction with it? Doesn't anyone else but me ask "why so few miles'"?
Terry, Could use some numbers on the wife's current ride as she wants a new '05 Jetta 2.5 or the Mazda6 i. Here are the details on the Alty: Ft. Lauderdale 78,000 miles Titanium Frost Power seat, cd player, special badging, uped the 205/60/15 tires to 205/65/15 and the car drives so much better. Might need 1 new tire as it has about 50% tread left Nice inside except the mats have seen better days 2 key scratches on hood thanks to some idiots in the mall parking lot Someone hit and ran and broke the passenger side power mirror. Still the black color, as we've not had it painted yet It's really a nice car, drives well, artic a/c after fixing a small $30. part last saturday. She loves it, but the mileage scares her. Am looking for about $6k on a private sale. The VW dealer offered us $18,999 plus T,T & L for the 2.5 automatic and the Mazda guy really wants to deal, as there's a $1500. rebate right now and I just printed an extra $500. rebate from Mazda for the test drive this weekend...so $2k rebate. The VW is more elegant and classy, but the Mazda means less $ out of our pocket...I think she really wants the Jetta though. Help? TIA as always and let's all pray for a quite hurricane season for us Floridians...had enough last year!

( Both stores are really persuing (?) us, and we'd like to buy between the end of June and the July 4th weekend.)
I'm in L.I. NY looking at a CPO BMW 2002 330 CIC.
I was just thinking that paying 46 large for a 3 year old (in Terry years) "utility" vehicle (aka a gussied up station wagon) is a lot. But, certainly less than 65K.
And, real low miles on a car can be worse than high miles, if it sits for extended periods of time, and does all short-hop dricing. probably not an issue on a newer car, but over time, that kind of use takes a toll. Cars need to be used, and brought up fully to operating temperature, on a regular basis IMHO.
This time I'm car shopping for mommy dearest.....I'm quasi-happy with my Tacoma 4x4 (but still want an FX45).
She's wanting a Solara. I've found an 2004 SLE V6 Coupe in Red with 10k miles, all the goodies, plus Nav down here in the great state of Texas.....looks to be pretty much "in the wrapper." What would this unit clear the auction for?
Comments
If you get the time this beautiful holiday weekend to give me a value on the '01 Alty, would be much appreciated.

Well I am back from Iraq and first I would like to say that I really appreciate the touch of normalcy that Edmunds provided while I was deployed.

Don't forget the update .....!

Here's my question. If my car is worth anything north of $1.85, I'll be stunned:
2000 Lincoln LS V6 -- Phoenix, AZ
Manual (yup, you read it right) transmission
79K miles
Sport Package (shocks, springs, oil cooler)
Graphite Blue (just like the Tauri)
New tires (Khumo -- just wore out a set of Michelin Pilots)
Audio options only (Alpine + 6-disc CD system) -- this is a stripper (what I don't have can't break)
Here's a question: Does "paintwork" mean paint work, or does it really mean body work?
==============================================
Terry.
Appreciate your response.
I bought the car to drive into the ground, so I guess I'd best get on with it.

This vehicle has been well cared for: oil changed every 4-5k, tires rotated (5) waxed every 6 mnths, garaged, no dents scratches, tires are orig, but appear to have about 10,000 miles left (est) still decent amount of tread showing.
Fool me once. . .

$33,000 for an 04 ...?!? --- not on my Watch.!
Happy hunting and let me know what happens ....
Terry.
To buy:
2003 LX470
16K miles
Loaded with all the toys (as ad claims)
Beige/tan
Looks in mint condition (owner bought a 750iL and wants out of the truck)
Dealer-installed rear DVD
Located in La Jolla, CA (across the freeway from my house)
Asking 46,900 OBO (private party sale)
So what should I offer on this truck ?
To sell:
2001 Sequoia SR5 2WD
62K miles
Silver/gray
All leather seating (includes third row)
Dual A/C, privacy glass, roof rack,
No towing hitch, a few scratches on the rear bumper, a small dent on the tail gate door, broken off trunk closer strap (I suppose I could fix all of these for a few hundred nickels, right ?)
WIll install new Michelin Cross Terrains (soon)
Will replace rear brakes (soon)
Will detail to glow-in-the-dark (soon)
Located in San Diego, CA
What should this puppy go for after taking care of all the imperfections? I am thinking $17-18K private party, or $15K dealer-trade.

Don't forget to let me know ..................
Terry.

2005 Honda Civic EX Special Edition 4 Door Automatic
Tango Red (We live in Tampa, FL by the way)
Actual Mileage: 275 miles (wow!)
Showroom Condition...(in fact it might be cleaner now than when I took delivery!)
If you could please give us any info on possible trade in numbers that would be great (assuming you have stopped shaking your head and laughing
I know...I know...(what a dumb [non-permissible content removed]!)
We would like to think that we are not the only ones that have made a mistake like this...but maybe we are the only ones that would admit to it.
Thanks oh mighty car guy for your help!!!!!
Your advice could save my marriage (Just kiddin' but the couch is getting old)
Mike
Went to a local (well not so local) dealer in my area and they offered 10K for the trade. This is above blue book and apparently well above Black Book, but I am just curious on the actual wholesale market, what is a fair trade value? On the flip side, NADA is a bit higher at 11K and Edmunds is around 10.4K.

============================
Good description .. thanks ......
Good luck and let me know what happens ..!
Terry.

The guy asking kbb. Is he dreaming?
TIA
Trouble is the owner decided she's had enough of low-ballers on her truck. Seemed like someone called and offered $45,5K and I offered $46K. So she decided she ain't selling it any longer, and its off the market, at least that's what she told me. I then offered her asking price, and she said she'd think about it but she is inclined to not sell the truck any longer. I am disappointed. I am kicking myself not simply offering her asking price right off the bat.
Oh well, the search continues..... Thx once again, just providing you an update as you so often request.

Could use some numbers on the wife's current ride as she wants a new '05 Jetta 2.5 or the Mazda6 i.
Here are the details on the Alty:
Ft. Lauderdale
78,000 miles
Titanium Frost
Power seat, cd player, special badging, uped the 205/60/15 tires to 205/65/15 and the car drives so much better. Might need 1 new tire as it has about 50% tread left
Nice inside except the mats have seen better days
2 key scratches on hood thanks to some idiots in the mall parking lot
Someone hit and ran and broke the passenger side power mirror. Still the black color, as we've not had it painted yet
It's really a nice car, drives well, artic a/c after fixing a small $30. part last saturday.
The Sandman :confuse:
( Both stores are really persuing (?) us, and we'd like to buy between the end of June and the July 4th weekend.)
I'm in L.I. NY looking at a CPO BMW 2002 330 CIC.
Thanks,
Lauren
And, real low miles on a car can be worse than high miles, if it sits for extended periods of time, and does all short-hop dricing. probably not an issue on a newer car, but over time, that kind of use takes a toll. Cars need to be used, and brought up fully to operating temperature, on a regular basis IMHO.

She's wanting a Solara. I've found an 2004 SLE V6 Coupe in Red with 10k miles, all the goodies, plus Nav down here in the great state of Texas.....looks to be pretty much "in the wrapper." What would this unit clear the auction for?
