My dealer gave me a base 328i mit slushbox for a loaner. It wasn't all that bad- as a matter of fact my wife loved it. As for me, it's either three pedals, Sport package, and RWD- or nothing.
I'm probably going to help with my dealers ride-and-drive event tomorrow. I'm going to try to get some seat time in a 335i M Sport with the DCT. A couple of fellow CCA instructors are really praising it.

Hey, well done Ray.
You've gone through five or six cars while I've done two ('00 LS & '08 TSX), so it's always interesting to hear where you're going next.
Let's see, was the 'vette the one before this, or did I miss one?
'Vette was a 2007.
Have a 2009 G8 GT now.
Will pick up the 2012 335iS in September...

Qbrozen, any thoughts on my trade-in from this post? Thanks.
Hopefully you can push them higher when trading for another bimmer.

Also explains why bimmer dealers feel they can get $6k-$8k over wholesales on their CPO cars.

If I am doing research on a car, should I expect to pay closer to trade in value, private party or retail value. This would be for a used vehicle so I am unsure what 'invoice' would be.
Thanks
Most of the books available to mere grunts are dream lists. They have nothing to do with the real market, which is very volatile & location-dependent. The Phoenix auctions aren't going to bring the same prices as Philadelphior Detroit or Seattle. Florida will screw you all day long.
Your car is worth what it will bring, not what some pinhead (like me) calculates that is "should" be worth.
Good luck.
When I am ready to purchase I was planning to negotiate using the numbers Edmunds suggests between TI and PP as well as whatever is suggested in this thread for the vehicle I want.
I am planning on getting either a 2009 or 2010 Infiniti M35 but unfortunately the Real World Prices Paid thread for these years hasn't been replied to since last year so I have no idea what prices people are paying for these vehicles.
Cargurus.com has a nice site that gives prices for used cars and how they compare to market values.
Used cars are different than new in that they don't have a set "invoice" price like new cars, where the options and packages all have the same MSRP. Each used vehicle is unique.
Just make sure you're comparing apples to apples - for example, if you see a vehicle with cloth seats & 53,000 miles that sold on EBay for 19,000, and you're looking at one with leather and 36,000 miles, you'll want to factor in the upgraded options and lower mileage. Mileage & condition is a big factor in what used vehicles sell for.
And remember, dealers and private parties can ask any price they choose. You won't truly know whether your offer is in the ballpark until you make it.

I can't afford a new one, but I will be happy with this. This will be the 4 car that I have purchased in my lifetime and I still haven't bought new, maybe the next one.
I have purchased a 7 year old Plymouth Horizon, 2 year old 1990 Nissan Maxima and 1 year old 2000 Nissan Maxima, time to step up in class a little.
For CPO, however, you'd have to add extra cost. This varies greatly by manufacturer. For Infiniti, I believe $1k-$1500 is sufficient.
FYI, I dig the previous M35, too. The new M37 is even sweeter.

At an independent used car place. Asking 26,900. What do you think? Been on the lot for bit. Lousy color but I could live with it.
Me personally, I'd rather have a brand new Kia Sorento AWD with leather for 2k more. Nice ride and great warranty.
I've heard MINI's residual is high, but I'd like to see what the pros say
Both of these vehicles are in Chicago:
2010 MINI Cooper Hardtop Base
British Racing Green / Black Roof and Mirrors
8k miles
6-speed auto trans
Cold Weather Package (heated seats, mirrors, folding mirrors)
Premium Package (Sunroof, leather seats, piano black interior, Premium Audio)
2009 MINI Cooper Clubman Base
Silver/Silver
17500 miles
6-speed auto trans
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
(One accident reported - only damage was a broken reflector on driver side fender - no structural damage)
Both are in very good condition with no physical defects or mechanical issues. 2010 is still immaculate, 2009 has some normal wear (carpet around pedals)
Thanks in advance for any help.
I may actually seek out the smaller tires next time I buy a car!

There's only one sold 2009 Mini Clubman on feebay, but it's an S, & certified, with 15,673 miles, for $21,750. Not sure how you'd deduct for the S, & certified, for yours, but here 'tis:

I like the Murana and almost bought one last year but my insurance company fixed the car instead of totalling it.
My problem is that I don't love any car that is "smart" purchase. I need a SUV or a big wagon, think 5 series, which is out of my budget. The other car that I am considering is a an 2008 RX for 28,900 with 32,000 miles. Base model no nav. I realize that this is more but I feel a "Lexus" is worth the extra.
Alternatively, I am looking at new Pilot LX AWD which truecar says is 26,700. I really don't care about having leather and nav so this may be the way to go. However, the one dealer I contacted quoted me 29,400. Not even close to the truecar price.
I got $11k for it on trade thanks to AutoTrader Guaranteed Trade-In, and a great deal on the new car that I could not pass up.
Story to follow on its replacement after I pick it up on Tuesday.
