If it's a nice car that's a fair private party price.

Trade-In mid 5s, doing 6-6500 at the auction... $7500 for a NICE car isnt bad at all, just, as we know... the tranny.....

I sold my 2001 Acura 3.2 TL, bought new by me, with 145,000 miles on it for $3500.00 in nice condition. The most miles I've ever put on a car. It even went to college twice with my kids. I know who bought it and it now has 165,000 miles on it, and the guy hasn't changed the oil yet. Uggh. It breaks my heart how people don't care for loved cars....

I agree 100%. The most fun I ever had on a track was driving a friend's E30 M3 at Sears Point(now Infineon) back in the early '90s.

Car we are trading for... 2012 Passat TDI SEL premium

    Location Albany, NY
2009 VW Routan SEL RSE, silver
    Minivan
    Fwd 4.0 engine
    42,500 miles
    Silver exterior, grey interior
Otions - all but nav. Includes heated front and middle seats, middle and rear entertainment systems, towing prep, load leveling suspension, block heater, power rear seats, power tailgate, power sliding doors, etc.

Condition notes - two small scrapes, no repaint etc. Tires will need replacing in next 10k miles. All other maintenance current.

What is either a reasonable difference or trade value for the Routan? I know, they are inexpensive Chryslers and we got a big discount at buy time.

    Thanks for your help!
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Chris,

Depends where the scrapes are.. bumpers? No big deal. Body panels? Kinda tough to call that without seeing it.

Figuring if it's clean, just needs new shoes.. and no Navi (And I assume no Moonroof, right? If it has one add $500ish)...

$15700-16100 is where I would be, a VW dealer might be a bit higher as it's "their" product. Galves is $16,750 with the miles. I'm figuring for new tires and $3-400 to reshoot the bumpers, if it's in fact just the bumpers.

From what I know VW dealers aren't dealing mush on TDI Passats, but, again, I don't work at a VW store so your mileage may vary.

Hope this helps and let me know how ya make out.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. Surprisingly the transmission is the one thing that hasn't had a problem on this car. Of course, having said that, it'll go out tomorrow. But she HAD to have it, even after my loudly expressed concerns about Volvo's stellar reliability. She's listening now... and is willing to forego a C70 convertible or the triple black A4 1.8T convertible a local dealer has. Both of which make me shudder, and my local indie mechanic drool in anticipation.

The question now is how do I dump it? The Volvo store in Savannah has a nice E46 convertible that's a Hilton Head car, but it is NO SALE green, so no thanks.

At $6000 on trade (and Georgia, South Carolina and Florida, where we would trade) are all difference states, I'd need another $500 to break even. Assuming there's another sucker, I mean Volvo lover, who will overlook T6 transmissions on a private party, what's a good starting point? $7500? I'm thinking of throwing it on autotrader just to see if we get any bites. This is a part of the world where well used highlines (and Volvo does count here) have a big market, scary as that thought is.

Steve, they have 2! a 2007 and a 2008. The '07 seems kinda pricey for this time of year, though you might have a special "boss" rate available!

The Volvo dealer in Savannah has 2 3 series converts that I am drooling over. will take either one happily. Too bad Savannah isn't just a bit closer. the blue 2002 is calling me...

    Detroit and the Sillies.

As a long term terminal Mets fan I can't root for the Cardinals and since Milwaukee is supposed to be in the American League I can't root for then in the National League (the things that happen when you let an owner be the Commissioner - he moved the team so he wouldn't have to pay a DH.

Once again the Yankees play exactly five more games than the Mets. What do they do going into nest year? And they still have to overpay A-rod for another six years! The late 90s this ain't boys.

That's a beautiful convertible...really! Too bad it's not closer to South Florida...could be a fun car. For some reason, the wife thinks I'm gonna trade my Civic just because the a/c compressor went. Guess it's because I've been talking to her about cars so much...and showing her so many. But I'm only doing that for her! I think she over heard me talking to my daughter that my next ride is gonna have power seats and be a bit more upscale than what I've ever bought before...might push the envelope a bit, since it'll probably be my last one. And she knows that I'm coming into a small amount of $ very soon. But I just can't see getting rid of my Civic any time soon.

Nope, we're looking for her and we're gonna start after October 15th, right after all her tax clients are all done. I've already got the choices down, so I'm all set to go.

A Mets fan fezo? With everything you've got going on, you're a Mets fan? Come join the dark side young skywalker. Lol!

Last night's game was sooooo frustrating to say the least. Especially since I was at the game last Friday (& last Saturday) night. It was one if the best games I've ever witnessed. The Yankees won game 4 with their backs to the wall with such conviction.

I thought the stars had aligned for The Yankees. Due to Friday's inclement weather (I thought they were going to announce Moses & the Arc as the next batter), we only had to face Verlander (IMO, the best pitcher in baseball). Jeter ran out that grounder for an infield hit. Even Jorge was batting wonderfully.

Bottom line, if you leave 11 men stranded on base including bases loaded twice in the late innings, you aren't going to win (nor do you deserve) game 5 of the ALDS.

I'm a huge A-Rod fan & supporter. He was terrible (I've got to keep it g rated in the forum). I love watching Tex play. He is the best defensive 1st basement in baseball. I love watching him wave that bat in the air before he crushes the ball. What happened my man?

Not much we can do. Tex & A-Rod's contracts are too massive to do anything with. Swisher makes a lot of dough, but if you let him go, there's really nobody out there tO replace him with.

as a met and giant fan that lives right outside of Philly, the last couple of days in sports have been just wonderful.

when you take on the starts by the giants and eagles, life down here has not been this pleasant in ages!

and you are correct, A Rod was dismal. Shell of his former steroid-fueled self.

But, look at the bright side. They only have what, 6 more years of paying him 30mill to go?

  • jwilliams2jwilliams2 Member Posts: 910
Terrific pitching, on both sides. Glad to see the Cards advance. Grew up going to the Cardinals (and Browns) games at Sportsman's Park way back when. St Louis is a great baseball town, and the Cardinals have won more world series than any team besides the Yankees. Hope they can do it again. :D
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
No joy in the National League. Ugh. The Brewers are and always will be an American League team. Bud was too cheap to pay for a DH so he moved the team into the other league because as Commissioner he had the power.

    Go, Tigers!

    not many people.

and having the Yanks and Phils out of the playoffs is going to make for a vastly more interesting rest of the postseason. Even fans of those teams should recognize the interest in a bunch of teams that have not been relevant for a long time being in the mix.

Now just need the brewers to eliminate the Cards.

Bill, hide that 07 Solara on your lot until November 1. Then you can give it away. I'll come up and you can tell them what a favor I'm doing you by taking it off your hands.

Moving on from the S80, I seem to have started something with the E46 convertibles at the Savannah Volvo store. Since I have to take the Volvo up there on Monday for another leaking radiator, I may wander down the hall to the sales guys and look at the BMWs. So, what's a good number on them?

    To refresh:

    2005 325CiC
No sale green, black top over tan
    Auto
    44,500 miles
I can't tell, but it doesn't look like it has sport package, but the Bimmer-philes can surely tell me.
    Asking $21,475

    Here:
    http://www.carvolvo.com/Pre-Owned_Inventory/Preowned%20Cars/21372/21372_05.html

    Door #2:

    2002 325CiC convertible
    blue/blue over tan leather (ette?)
    75,000 miles
    Auto
    Asking $14,000

    Here:
    http://www.carvolvo.com/Pre-Owned_Inventory/Preowned%20Cars/21429/21429_02.html

With the trade on the aforementioned S80, what kind of difference numbers on these 2? I know the wife will want the newer one, since it will be her driver, but so I have some idea going in. These guys tend to be REALLY proud of their inventory, new and used, so I'm not holding much hope of a lot of movement.

If not, either of Bill's Solaras would work too, since the basic requirements are a convertible with some semblance of a backseat for our 7 year old. And NO Sebrings/200s.

Thank you again for your help with this one.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Not that it will do any good if she doesn't want a Sebring but I had a 98 Sebring that wasn't a bit of trouble. Only got rid of it because of expanding family.

That said, it certainly didn't drive like a BMW. Or even a Solara.

Well... I was thinking ya start em at $5K+ the Volvo, but realistically... its convertible season where you are right now...

$6k on Volvo, $12,500 on the BMW. BMW is in Galves for $8800 but they are bringing a bit over that if they are nice, closer to $10k.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
I'll have to check on the Ody.. what were we figuring it for last time?

    Solara? Just over Galves IIRC.

If it's clean overall and the tranny is OK, figure $6500 to maybe upper 6s.

Less with accident history of course.

This is for a friend of mine, in the great (not yet) frozen North of mid-Michigan.

    '05 Ford 500
dark red, 167k. 'burgAndy' as it's called in the car biz.
yes, one hundred and sixty-seven big ones.

all leathered up, reportedly AWD, CVT
was a company car of some sort, hence the high miles.

    here's a link:
    http://www.crippencars.com/used-inventory/1FAFP28165G171788

nice car according to my buddy; but then he's been driving a 96 Nissan hardbody base model sans air, pwr steering, or anything else, so just about any '05 would seem pretty nice...

The asking price of $6,440 strikes me as not crazy, but with those miles, I would not buy it for more than $5,500. But what do I know. That's why I ask here...

    Thanks in advance,

Actually that was.. sheesh... Back in 2000 or so, maybe 01.

That car was in a catastrophic wreck back in 03... Dad's girlfriend flipped it on I-4 just north of downtown Orlando. I don't think there was a single straight panel left on it. She walked away tho.
