..... Hey, spring has just about sprung ..and a lot of people will be lookin' for a nice, slick, little dude to go riding in .. especially with a slider.

It's not so much that Bugs have lost their luster, it's just that there is more than ..1. These are great little vehicles, and VW did a great job bringing it to market.

Just like the PT Cruiser, lot's of super demand and just a few vehicles to go around. Now they have been out 4 yrs .. lot's in the garage, and now it's time for a Van, a sedan, truck, SUV or just maybe a Harley .. who know's

You should throw it in the paper with a FAT 5 liner Ad, clean it up, make it look like new again for $14,900. Let some nice church attendant buy it for $13,8/$14/$14,200. Then you can go out, and buy your Van, a sedan, truck, SUV or just maybe a Harley. l..o..l.....

    Let us know ...

    Terry.

I have a 2000 Durango SLT Plus with 25000 miles fully loaded. Kelly and Edmunds put this around a $20500 trade in value. Im interested in a new Impala LS which lands around $22000 after rebates etc. What can I expect to get for my Durango in a trade in for the new Impala ?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... The miles are ok. for this one ... If it's the 5.9, 4x4, tow pack, Infinity, leather (plus right ..?) ..and it's just a brand new lookin' vehicle, inside and out ---- then you should see "around" the mid $19's on a trade.

If the others say $20 and change, I have no idea were they get their figures .. but, let's hope you get it.

    Good luck ..and have fun.

Terry & Bill - thanks for the info - I haven't stepped foot into the dealership yet as I am information hungry and tend to research way too much - that's why I'm reading all the posts in here everyday. I'm hoping when I do (next few months hopefully) the dealer(s) will be reasonable in their negotiations and maybe I'll get closer to a "steal".
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Food for thought. It's not a dealer thing, it's the market. SUV's are in great demand. Pricing is directly reflective on the want and need of the buyer ... if you are lookin' to "steal" one, it may be a loooong wait.

Kinda keep in mind, those prices I showed you .. are wholesale. That's what the dealers are paying at the auctions, the auctions are the direct result of the market.

Good luck ..and let us know.

Thanks, Terry. I appreciate your advice. I think I'll get it detailed inside and out and try selling it myself. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm getting tired of the 87 LeSofa^H^H^H^HSabre and was looking at a 95 4cyl 5speed Contour GL. It has the usual scratches and stuff, so it's probably average. Color is Aqua, that's gotta be a deduct 8^) good thing I'm color blind.

75K on the clock, interior is marked by cig burns. Brand new cheap Goodyear Vivas (B Traction, B Temp) On the plus side, the notoriously cheap cupholder is still intact.

I about fell on the ground laughing when they said they wanted 6.9K for this car. I told him I'd be shocked if they offered me much more than that for my 98 SVT (not for sale) and was thinking something less than half that, if it drove alright. (TMV is around $3200)

I told him to give me a call before he lets it go at auction for ~$2K so he can minimize his loss and hassle. (Not even much paperwork since I'd have to title and license in IL.)

What would he get at auction?

This is a Chevy store in St. Charles, says it was acquired by previous used car manager who is no longer with them.

Am I off base here? If you were me and wanted another one of these fine, but misunderstood cars, what would you buy it for?

    TB
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... A 95 GL, with 75k..and a handshaker. Your right, we call that "no sale green" ..l.o.l..

But on the positive side, it has new sneakers. So, lets say it's just a average vehicle all the way around. He probably has "around" $2/$2,5 in it, with a this and a that and a "cha cha cha" ..and dreams he can get $3+ at the block, go back and offer him a quarter and see what happens ....

What do ya think Bill ...?

    Terry.

Wanna call "Doc" and tell him to sell the car? :D

  • zoomzoom79zoomzoom79 Member Posts: 272
2000 Honda Civic Si w/ 34,000 miles. It's black over black and a handshaker of course. It's in pretty decent shape. Completely stock. It has a small ding in the right quarter panel and the bolts were turned on the front end but it has no frame damage and the paint shows pretty well. The interior just needs a good cleaning and the tires seem to be in good shape with alot of tread left. Where would you put this car?

    I'm being offered $11,000 for my 01 5-speed Pro ES with 11k.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Where would I put this car ..?

Probably in my neighbors yard, I have enough vehicles hanging out of my drive ..l.o.l.

What's it worth retail ..? what bolts ..? -- on the wholesale side it would do the ultra high $12's .. maybe more. A dealer probably would sell it for $14 and some change.

$11 for the ES .. aahh, thats a little on the retail side. Let's just say .. you should be able to trade for your vehicle and "around" $5 grand, plus the waxes and flea's ...

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.

The vehicle is a '97 CR-V RT4WD auto with OEM Honda alarm and side bars, no accident, 75,000 KM, probably need new sneakers within next 5,000 KM. Because it's in Canada, I don't think Bill and others can estimate wholesale and retail since the pricing structure in Canada is so different. But let me ask this another way. If I have estimated that the car can be sold privately for $17,000 - 17,500 CAD, what would you say a (Canadian) dealer may give as a trade-in value?
  • zoomzoom79zoomzoom79 Member Posts: 272
the Si for $11,000. So I guess I am doing pretty good :) And the good part is that since they are giving me $11,000 for my car I am exempt from taxes :)

The bolts that hold the front fender on have been turned but it doesn't have any core/frame damage. So it may have been in a small accident but it doesn't look like it was anything major.

    Hmmm...

Its that Sick and Nasty "Teal Pea" Green, innit?

Hmm... Cig burns... "You have to push a stick around to make it move".

$2K across the block if all is right in the world...

Id hit it myself, if its piggy, at $1800 or so.

So, If you can buy it for a quarter, wonderful. $3K-3,200? If you like it.

Otherwise? At $6,900 he is dreaming in technicolor while smoking crack.

I will defer to Terry on the CRV... But figure you should, in the US, on a Private sale, always try and get $1,500++++ More than you'd get on a trade-in.

....... Bill is right, Carfax it, then take the Vin # to Honda and check out the service history -- at that price, I think I might run that by the FBI, there may be a terrorist in the trunk .....

$11 dead even across the board ..?

    hmmm,

    Terry.
  • zoomzoom79zoomzoom79 Member Posts: 272
Already been Carfax'd and NICB'd. Everything's clean. No frame. No clamps. Oil is slightly dirty but it's only 2,000 miles past due according to the sticker and with only 34k there isn't that much maintenance they could've missed. It looks like they may have had wheels on it because the Michelins on it look almost new but otherwise everything on the car is stock.

Me thinks this deal is too good to pass up.

I am trying to get a feel for a reasonable offer on my 97 Mazda 626 ES(Dk green, tan interior). I am the only owner and the car is loaded with all the options (leather, moonroof, cd changer, cruise, power everything). It has 52,300+ miles, tires are less than 6 mths old, and car is in good condition. It has been in a few scrapes but repaired each time. No rust, scratches, or dents, 1 small door ding on driver side. It has been regularly maintained and has no mechanical issues. KBB indicates the trade in value is 8,160. A car dealership offered me 6,500. I think this is too low. We wanted to trade for a new VW Passat GLX. It was no deal. Any thoughts on what the car is really worth in the current market. We are checking around with other dealers.

    Thanks,
    LLW

We have some car's for you to look at. It's a 98 Acura TL, it has 37K, every option, new tires 4k ago, blue/grey. It's very clean, 1 ding on the drivers door and some very small scratches on the plastic part under the grille.

The vehicle get's waxed about 5/6 times a year and she doesn't smoke in the car, it's nice and looks like new.

Ok, we have a another one for you, it's my brothers. It's very clean, all the BMW service done and it has a BMW warranty for 100k. Its a 97 BMW 528I, it has 41k, new tires and it has all the options, black/black(grey?) someone scraped the front fender at Home Depot and he had to have it re painted, but it looks perfect.

Last but not least a 96 Mercury Mysticke LS, tan/tan, leather, sunroof, v6, 42k, new tires, this is in better shape than the Acura!

What do you think they might be worth on a trade/retail. Is one better than the other to sell on the paper.

Again thanks a lot, you have been a great help with all our cars, we wouldn't know what to do without you guys!!
  • bretfrazbretfraz Member Posts: 2,021
    Just some friendly advice....

You'd better clarify your posts regarding the equipment the cars come with. Or the bosses in here will be unhappy with you.

LLW - What engine and tranny is in your 626? I assume V6 and automatic but I don't know.

HANDSFREE - What trannies are in the BMW and the Mistake..... sorry.... I meant "Mystique"?

I'm not raggin on ya, just tryin to keep ya from being sent to your rooms :-)

I have a 1998 red Jeep Wrangler Sport with 55,000 miles. It's a five speed, with a/c, soft top, grizzly wheels, cd, sound bar. I live in the metro D.C. area? Any thoughts on what I can expect on a trade in and if I sell it privately? Is this vehicle in demand, or should I just trade in? Thanks for your help.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
If you DONT write that check RIGHT NOW Me and Terry will hunt you down..and...

Err.. I mean its a KICK-[non-permissible content removed] deal so go and sign up!

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
It has been in a few scrapes but repaired each time.

Umm... Could you elaborate here please?

That being said... $8,160? kbb.com is smoking something again.

$7Kish is where I think the car should be. That being said, I want some info on the scrapes.. if its had a bunch of paintwork, $6,500 might be a stretch...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Oh yeah.. that assumes that it be a V6 :)
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Ah-Hem!

    The TL... 2.5? 3.2? Premium?

Tsk tsk tsk... I guess you know where I'm sending you, right?

    TO YOUR ROOM!

Now, this 528i, I assume it is an Automatic, right? If so.. its' a solid $20K wholesale piece, and I'd ask $23,900 for it prvate sale, Dont take much under, say, $22,800. If you're UP NORTH (Arent you in Philly IIRC?) you can get that for it easily. Advertise the warranty... people like em :)

    And on to the Mistake...

$4K or so wholesale, so figure $5,950 in the paper, grab $5,500 or so.

Mistiques arent awesome merchanidse... old TLs are a touch soft, but 5-Series BMWs are Hoooooooooot!

Hope this helps, some more info on the acura :tapping foot: and we can get to that one too!

    :)

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmmm..

Good car for a Private sale, but Jeeps have no "book". I.E. Some used cars have a HUUUUUUUGE Book, such as Range Rovers, so actual wholesale on one may be, say, $20K, and NADA retail might be, say, $28,750 so I can advertise it for $24,995 and look like I am cheap.

Can't do that with a Wrangler as easily....

That being said, they are great merchandise, its Spring, Its a red Jeep..etc...

Its a $10,500 wholesale piece, and if you sell yourself I think ya should ask $12,500/bo and expect to be insulted down to $11,800 at the minimum, but that you'll prolly see $12K.

    Hope this helps!

I'm gonna write that check as soon as the title comes in for the Si. I hate waiting. I'm ready to get it home and clean it up. We are also gonna go ahead and buy the 96 EX for $4500. So looks like we are getting his and hers. It's almost like having twins...

Bill I made the mistake of test driving a XJR
Body is in very good condition no sign of paintwork, Red exterior, oatmeal interior, roof
cd, traction, heated seats. I know I just purchase the XJ8 a month ago but the XJR is a beast.I guess I will also need trade-in on the
    XJ8 99, 35,000 miles, Sapphire/Oatmeal, roof, cd
    traction, heated seats.

Hello, I have a 2000 Honda Civic Si with 46,000 miles on it, in mint condition, except for two door dings. It is black, with new tires and oil changes regularly. I am thinking of selling it or trading it in and getting a 2002 Jetta GLS 1.8t
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... I can't tell where your from, but the color can help you ..or hinder you.

46 klicks, a little stiff for a 00 .. no help there, you have new sneakers and from what your telling us it's nice and clean, so if it is ... you are probably lookin' at the mid $12's on a trade. And if you decide to go the retail path, try $14,900 and take $13,8/$14,1/$14,500 ..

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Oooooh, my color and interior, sounds nice.

Miles are great, and if it is ultra clean and nice .. all services are there, and new erasers. Plus, if it has no love bugs scattered in the paint and the interior is lookin' 02.
Then you should be lookin' at a vehicle that the dealer probably has close to $30 in it ..and I'm guessing he is asking $34,950.

On the trade side, you should be "around" the mid $27's if it is jam up...

What do you think Bill ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Yeah, Bill is right -- after being at the DC/Balt auction a few times, you should be fine getting around $12 for that Jeepster on the retail side ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Why are you waiting for a title ? ... you should have it all wrapped up ..and the dealer will take care of the rest.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... I'm not very good at all this conversion stuff, so I will give you that pleasure... l..o..l..

I see you are from the Vancouver area (one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen) ... But anyway, let's just say it has 60,000 miles on it, lets just say it's in good condition and a need for some new sneakers ... everything is all ok. ABS ..? (if not - start deducting)

Up your way, that vehicle will do in the $11's+ on a trade -- On the retail side, ask $14,900 ..and you should see a easy $14,500 (American money) ... now it's your turn to do the conversion ... :-)

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Hmmmmmm, what ..? too much Vino ..?

We gotta havva alla the info mation to maka the numbers go oh a right .. cop ish..!

But anyway, If the LS Mystique is as clean as you say it is .... "cleaner than the Acura" .. roof, leather, V6, alloys, knee deep, etc. It should hang towards the $5 mark, the low mile clean ones, are hard to find. There worth more now, than when they were building them ... the 24v V6 makes this vehicle. And if you go to the dark side to retail it ..ask $6,500 and you will see $5,900/$6,200. Sometimes, Bill hangs out too much at the Erotic lanes .. or is that the Exotic lanes ..? ...l.o.l...

Now, bringa back the info on the other stuff..

    Terry.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmmm...

You went ahead and drove an XJR. That's sort of like drugs.. try it once and you are addicted. Its one of those "Oh My GOD isthisthingfasterthanasmallairplaneorwhat?" deals..

OK.. Rule #1 on XJRs...If you can EVER "Steal" One, do it. They're the one Jaguar that I willbe really greedy and piggy on. Why? Cos I can get all the $$ for em. Sorry guys.. but it be da truth.

If ytou can buy it for $33K or so, you're getting a great deal, buy it. Im sure they want at least $35K for it, and someone will pay it. And I'd sure pay $28-29+ for that car and still would be able to make $1K real quick wholesaleing it.

Now... your car... I think $25,500ish to maybe $26K depending on the paintwork (I have a memory like a retarded Elephant..haha) But its got good miles and its a good color.

I.E. Shoot to trade for $6K difference... but let me know what they say...

What am I going to be able to get when I wholesale a '99 Benz E320? White, 28K miles, Michelins only have 5K miles on them, original owner, all maintenance done at dealer (oil changes at 5-6K mi). Sunroof, Bose, leather. In excellent shape - gargaged nightly and only 1-2 real small dings. Had to have fender replaced at 7K miles due to major shopping cart dent (sucker rolled downhill and got me) and had it done at Benz dealer.

    What do you think? Thanks.

    Tex
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Ohhh, a little parking lot kiss, Huh ..?

These are great vehicles .. IF -- the Benz dealer did a puuurffect job, no spray in the wells, no tape marks on the windshield ... l..o..l.. and it looks and "feels" like the rest of it (I doubt it) ..plus you have a history now with Benz.

So let's just assume it a great job, you have the right color with no miles and new skins -- this vehicle should do "around" $32 (real money) on a trade, I have a feeling that fender will come back to haunt you ...

Good luck ... and let us know ..

    Terry.
  • texbeantexbean Member Posts: 38
That was about what I was hoping. The dealer did a pretty good job, but obviously not factory perfect. I'll post the price when I move it.

Got another one for you guys...again, retail.

'96 Volvo 960 wagon. White over tan cloth (didn't know post-95 960s even had cloth available!) heated seats, so I'm guessing also the locking diff., but I'm not sure. CD player, third seat (I think; the dealer was closed and the car was locked.) 70k. Body in great shape, interior looked really good for the year but not perfect. Obviously I didn't get to drive it. The dealer's "Guaranteed Lowest Price" is $14,900, which to me seemed a little steep. Bill, I'm sure you know the dealer it's sitting at; the major 15-someodd brand auto mall-type place in Davenport. Terry, you might know it too.

I'm trying to put a number on a trade. It's a 01 Sentra GXE auto. Grey on grey with 14k on the clock. This is in Southern Cal. Car is clean, but we usually don't see these on trade.

What is the deal with the difference between the trade-in value that you get after entering a car in the NADA website and the NADA book the dealer pulls out showing me my car is worth much less?

I entered my 96 Blazer 4wd LS with 53,300 into the NADA website, and it spits out that the "average trade in" is $8100 and that with my trim package and mileage adjustment that the "total average trade-in" is $9400. When I went to the dealer this weekend, they pull out the NADA book and it shows $7500. I know the book doesn't give adjustments for mileage, condition, etc., but what gives? I showed the dealer my NADA printout from the website, but he was unimpressed and wouldn't change his quote of $7500.

    Thanks

I realize this is probably not the appropriate forum to post this but it is related ...

Every time carfax mentions "Title issued", does that really mean the car has exchanged hands?
I'm confused because not all "title issued" line is followed by an emissions inspection ... isn't it required to have emissions inspection when cars
exchange hands? Or is that a CA law only?

    Thanks.

    JP
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
Many states (mostly in the midwest) have no vehicle inspection programs at all, emissions or otherwise.
  • JPhamJPham Member Posts: 148
ok ... the car I'm checking out came from IL
so I guess that jibes with what you said.
It has exchanged hands 4x since it came off lease ... should I be concern?
